I think Id be happy too, but I dont see us being in a position yet where we can keep our 'bright young stars' happy on the bench - or not even on the bench... If someone of Freds calibre joined then Luke Moore would be 4th choice striker and I think, as he probably does, he is too good for that - so we could end up selling him on and bringing in someone from the lower leagues as a 4th choice...

How would people feel if we sold Luke but signed Fred?

I think Reo-Coker's perceived attitude problems have all stemmed from when he believed he would be granted a move to Arsenal in the summer but was ordered to stay... I think that playing in a team he has chosen to join, as opposed to being made to play for, will see a return to the form of last season. I would be delighted if we are the team he chooses to join. *Edited to conform to 'I before E except after C' rule...

I agree that they probably wont sell - to turn down a bid 18mil shows that they want to keep hold of him, or maybe it shows they don't want to sell him to fellow relegation strugglers...Either way I can't see him leaving this Jan. As for him not being one of the best strikers in europe. I would argue with that. I would say that he would be one of the best strikers, that are actually available. Sure, he's no Eto'o, but Eto'o won't be available. It's pretty obvious that Bent will be leaving Charlton pretty soonish, and I think with his premiership experience, his goalscoring record, his age and his availability we should try our hardest to get him. Letting him go to another team would, IMO of course, be a big mistake. If he went to a Spurzzz kind of team it would make them stronger than us and if he went to one of 'The Big 4' (TM Sky Sports) it would push them further ahead of us. With, apparantly, all the transfer fees to go through the roof after the new TV deal kicks in, I wouldn't consider 18-20 mil for Darren Bent too much money.

Really? I would love to pay that rather than watch him go elsewhere... He's a good player but not worth £18mill IMO, there's plenty of other strikers in the world who are just as good, if not better for that or less. I kind of agree that he maybe isn't in the same bracket as other players who have been bought for 18mil, but I think I would rather we paid that price for him than see him sign a 5 year contract at another club. IF charlton decide to sell him, then, regardless of price, I hope we are the ones who buy him.

Well u might have to wait. Jesus Christ this is starting to piss me off. What if the players MON wants aren't available in this window? What if the players he does want decide to go elsewhere...what if we compete on level terms with spurs for Bent (for example) offer him the same wages etc, what if he joined spurs anyway? What can we do about that? What if we don't sign a 'statement of intent' player? What then? Is Lerner a charlatan? Is MON a terrible manager? Are we slipping towards decades of mediocrity again?

MON says we'll have to wait. Which sounds too familiar. Its possible that MON's quote of 'it will be difficult to do anything before the Man U game' is due to us having lined up a player (Bardsley) or two players (Bardsley / Smith) from Manure and they didnt want to sell to us before we played them... Sorry if thats been mentioned, its hard to keep up with this thread!

I thought it was generally considered that we missed Vass a lot when he was out last year...I also think its a given that him and Angel do work well together and also that if O'Leary wants Angel and Phillips to be our first choice pairing Vass will be extremely effective at coming off the bench for the last 20-odd minutes. In my opinion he is invaluable to our cause and 3m is a disgrace - I would rather keep him and never play him then sell him for 3million pounds to a team that are trying their hardest to become a higher placed more succesful team than us...Maybe it's selfish but I would rather see Vass not quite realise his full potential for us than see him become a world class striker at another club...Its not like the 3m will be invested back into the team anyway is it? Plus, haven't City just bought Andrew Cole? How many strikers do they have now?

The Chelsea in the premiership of annoying baseball caps are those Dizzy Rascal-esque NYC multicoloured pieces of crap...especially wen the "yoots" of today leave the bloody sticker on the top and bottom of the peak...What is that all about? They are even worse than the ever present Bluberry Check ones...
