  1. Unfortunately I agree with Chindie.

The current squad we have will probably see us relegated. 2/3 good signings and we can potentially finish 12th-17th. I still think we will sign a couple of players but I have no idea what is actually going on at the club at the moment. The club is being run into the ground.

  2. The guy is a joke.

    This.

To have failed so miserably in the NFL and now in the Premier League is plain embarrassing.

My history on Lerner is not great but didn't he inherit a successful billion $ company and an NFL team from this father?

Fast forward a few years and he has sold the company, sold a failing NFL team and had his wife take him for millions.

He is now left with Villa. A company he has ran astonishingly badly throughout his tenure to the point where we probably wont be a premiership club next year.

The guy is a complete fraud. A joke of a businessman who is probably no wiser than me or you when it comes to anything.

  3. Jut back from VP.

I have probably been to every opening home game of the season in the last 25 years and that has to be one of the worst home season openers and starting elevens I have seen.

I don't put any of the blame for that at Lamberts door it is squarely at Lerners.

Quite simply a lack of investment has seen us having to field a team full of players who have come through the ranks but who just aren't good enough especially when you consider the senior players around them aren't top quality either. That is not their fault but it is a sad fact. Herd, Bannan, Delfouneso, Clark, Baker, Weimann, Lichaj should not be making up 50% of our side.

Two years of selling of our best players, flogging off some decent solid squad players, and not replacing them with anything like the same quality has inevitably led us to where we now are. Relegation fodder.

Without major investment and 4 or 5 quality signing by the end of the week then we are facing relegation.

The reckless way Randy has gone about trying to balance the books over the last two years and the incompetence he and Faulkner have shown is a disgrace.

    Excellent analysis.

Unfortunately the fans are going to suffer for the way Lerner has run the club in the last 5 years.

I look at the teams in the league now and cant see where our points are coming from this season. We have to concentrate on beating the sides like Norwich, Wigan and West Ham and just hope we scrape the odd point elsewhere.

The current squad will be relegated. I have no doubts about that. We need 3/4 players before this window closes and then another 2 in January in order to remain a premiership club.

I like Lambert and the signings he has made so far have been reasonable, but he has taken on a club in turmoil with a squad full of poor players/youngsters.

We are in a relegation battle this year, make no mistake about it.

  4. Personally I'm very impressed with his consistency, he really doesn't get enough credit for it.

He can invariably be relied on to make absolutely the wrong choice regarding a run, a pass or a dribble attempt. On those rare occasions when he lets us down by making the right choice he soon makes up for it by **** it up completely.

I'm sick of the sight of him in C&B. I want him gone equally as much as I want to see the back of Hutton, Warnock and Dunne. He spent an entire season being shite and is not going to come good. Don't give me any "He just needs to settle... he just needs to find his confidence... he gets played out of position... he doesn't have the talent around him..." **** bullshit. He is supposedly a pro footballer who moved less than 100 miles to another club and performed marginally better than George Weah's "cousin".

I hope to Christ PL manages to offload him before we find him "Beyeing" us for the next few years.

All I can say to him is "Don't Bogarde this joint, my friend."

    Pretty much sums him up.

  5. Im inclined to agree with beasley14.

He has never really done anything in the first team and in fact has been very poor in most matches. I have high hopes for the kid and pray he comes good but I'm not holding out a great deal of hope.

  6. Hmmm.

Everybody seems to have slammed the original post in this thread, Im not so sure why?

Whilst I think we will survive this year, relegation is certainly a possibility. We dont have nearly enough quality in our squad to be assured of anything this season.

I like Lambert and think he will do well here, but the guy needs to be backed. We have a serious lack of class in our side at the moment.

  7. I may have my maths all wrong so I'll apologise in advance if I'm wrong.

But having a look on soccerbase.

Over Doug's last 3 years at the club our net spend on players was around £22 million

Our last 3 summers under Lerner our net spend on players is around -£13 million.

Just wondering when this serious lack of investment in the squad becomes an issue?

    Very interesting if accurate.

  8. Bannan should play alongside KEA. His form pre-season has earned him a place in the line-up.

Whilst I agree we could do with a big strong DMC, If we keep the ball better then we can cope fairly well without one.

That's not true. In some ways it's even more important to have a sitting midfielder if you are going to play the possession game because otherwise you get done on the break. That was my big concern watching the Forest game. I wanted that midfield quintet with Bannan to work but it didn't. Will be interesting to see who plays tomorrow.

Hmmm maybe you have a point. To be fair, I wasnt at the Forest game.

I'd like to see Bannan given a chance though. The guy's nearly always the best player for the reserves and I like what Ive seen of him in a lot of first class games.

  9. Bannan should play alongside KEA. His form pre-season has earned him a place in the line-up.

Whilst I agree we could do with a big strong DMC, If we keep the ball better then we can cope fairly well without one.

  10. Hmmm,

I think we are all being too quick to write Bannan off and the influence he could have on the team this year. I still think we are stronger centrally than we are outwide. I know we may be playing narrowly this season but attacking down the wings is always a good plan B at least and Im not sure we have that ability with our current crop of wingers.

A left back and a left winger are still the two key areas for me.

If we can bring these in then by all means, have a look at a big DMC.

  11. I think we need someone like N'Daw sat just in front of Vlaar & Baker

That would protect the back line and allow players like KEA / Ireland to be more progressive up the field

    Are you a retard?

  12. Desperately need 2/3 more players. A Wide player and a Left back are a must.

If we dont sign anyone, cant see us finishing any higher than 12th.

If we do sign a couple of quality players before the end of the window, 8th-10th.

In terms of cup runs, all depends on the draws. That said, Id be more confident of going to places like Anfield and White Hart lane with Lambert in charge as he may actually try and win the games.

Big couple of weeks for us in the transfer market. I have no idea how much money is available but Ive always thought for Lambert to come to Villa, he must have been promised a decent amount of money and he has hardly spent anything yet.
