Most teams in Europe play inverted wingers now.
It's been working too, well for Downing anyway. The other side doesn't seem as productive.

Martyrs- Didn't expect to see what I had seen. A very disturbing film, you'll either love it or hate it.
The Tenant- Polanski film in which he also took the lead role and is part of the apartment trilogy. Interesting film, starts off quite well but sort of spirals off towards in the end into pure strangeness. Worth a watch and quite amusing at times.
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind- Excellent film, really enjoyed it. Sam Rockwell steals the show as most films he's in and the cinematography is brilliant. Not really a serious film, but very fun to watch.

What happened to St Pauli
-
It was there to see that GMac was scared to take a gamble, and was happy taking a point. I guess that's the story of our season.
-
Lambert also showed his motivational abilities to get Wycombe to the League Cup semi final a couple of years ago. He's come a long way since his first managerial job at Livingston where he apparently had a shocker.
-
Graham is the one being scouted, but he's a year too young to sign a contract right now.
Grealish has a few years yet, but as said in this thread he's a Villa fan.
-
Hopefully it's not like the home game last season, that imo was the worst game of MON's tenure.
Hoping for a win, but some reason all I see is a draw.

Nice one dvin. Cavani is a beast 8)
In my second season at villa and just won the league cup, but for the life of me getting money out of the board is impossible. Is this something quite new with the latest update?I'm in my first season, but they've increased my budget twice. It might be because I'm keeping my wage budget tight so as a result they give me more funds. One thing I have found though is that he's not very patient, I've been under pressure a few times when I've been between 7th and 9th! Nice one with cup win hoping to get to the final in my first season, got West Ham in semi atm.

Loving Bannan for Villa, but Albrighton and Clark have been quite poor. The Fonz started well but lost confidence since I had Bent return from injury. Bent and Gabby have been two of my best players, they are lethal. Other then that Cuellar, Walker and NRC have been solid.
Heskey is awful! I thought he could do a decent job for a season, Friedel and L Young have been poor too

I actually think our best chance is a manager who grows into the role - like Ron Saunders did all those years ago.
Yeah sure a manager who is trying to grow into the roll will be given time by our fickle fans?
Can't see anyone given time by some of our fanbase, they will be on his back if he loses the first 2 games.
This is true.
At the end of the day it should be who is best for Aston Villa and not who is the best manager or who the fans want.

The Squid and the Whale
Quite a funny film and it succeeded in making all the characters very dislikable.
-
considering we are safe, is there a case for us almost not being bothered with a loss to wigan as it would hurt blues' relegation fight?
That's SHA mentality. Not Aston Villa, we're bigger then that.

1-0 Wolves
Fletcher penalty.
Foster maybe should have been sent off.

Great film!
Yeah hermit scene is hilarious, love the classroom at the start too. Oh and 'Abby Normal'
-
Very good half, we look confident and a lot fitter then WBA.
I was very pleased with how we kept the ball at the end of the half, in the past we'd have given it away and conceded like we did v Blackpool at VP.
Keep this up Villa.
-
I can safely say Fox Sports have no **** idea what they are talking about.
Yeah
They said West Brom are safe but we're in trouble
-
Pleased with the starting lineup but the bench what the f**k.
No real attacking quality on there apart from Bannan and Pires who play similar roles. I understand it's probably the time to give the likes of Delph and Bradley a chance but there's no-one there who has proved this season that they can change a game if needed.
-
I was the same, have had about one proper game on this FM so I'm hoping Villa can change that. More appealing bringing through the likes of Albrighton and Clark
-
Started a game with Villa.
Sold Warnock for 4.2m, Salifou for 550k with Beye going out on loan.
Signed Skjelbred (2.5m), Pieters (3.5m) and Smithies (750k).
Wanted to sign Steele from Boro in a swap deal with Guzan, but Boro played hard ball.
Drawn 2-2 away at City, with Skjelbred and Gabby scoring. Collins scored an own goal and Dzeko equalised 93rd min
Also drawn 0-0 at home to Ruch Chorzow with a weak side
Beat Liverpool 3-1 at home though thanks to a Reina own goal, Bent and Skjelbred again.
Lost Cuellar and Bent for three months due to injuries

I'm sure I heard on the radio today that the club had a meeting with the players about who they feel should be the next manager.
Sounds a good idea.
What if all the players say Big Sam.
Would the club appoint him?
Sam give it a rest and get back to giving us your excellent twitter updates.
-
I wouldn't call that Scottish group a mixed group. There is one newbie manager who is doing terrible and the rest are at least good managers.

Matchstick Men
Decent film full of twists. Sort of role Cage was made for and it had Sam Rockwell in who I am a big fan of. Didn't particularly like the ending though...

Mind you, the thread is about Ireland...
Yeah not Houllier, nor is the article being posted. Every manager gets on with players differently, yet Houllier is getting blamed for not handling Stephen Ireland of all players correctly ffs...
The reason Ireland is at Newcastle is because of Houllier...
The reason Ireland is at Newcastle is Stephen Ireland. I think he should be grateful he's not rotting in the reserves.
-
Yes he's a mid-table manager for a reason. What are the advantages of an Aston Villa, Tottenham or Liverpool for instance taking on the great Big Sam.
I know it's the only trophy we've won, but if you would settle for fluking one with negative tactics like SHA did then it concerns me. Our club is capable of so much more, we have the resources to win League Cups with good football and better managers.
-
Allardyce hasn't ever managed a top club as his style is so limited ffs.
The one club that comes even remotely close to being big (Newcastle) he barely lasted a few months and they hated him.
What manager across Europe uses his style to get major success? Don't say Mourinho as there is a massive difference.
They sacked him when he was 11th - they went on to get relegated
Btw, the fact that Newcastle sacked him when they where 11th shows how kind and generous we have been to Houllier and that he needs to leave our club this summer.
That doesn't mean he was doing a good job... It just meant more disruption.
Kind and generous? It was sensible by Randy, changing a manager with 10 or so games left would have been idiotic and because we hadn't we're comfortably safe. Now we have the summer to probably get a new manager seen as its unlikely that Gerard will return.
I'll tell you something if Big Sam comes in players like Downing and Young will be off and you wouldn't see the best if Bent having the ball hoofed to him every time we go forward.
Big Sam is a good manager for a mid-table team where he maybe win the odd trophy with negative tactics. We're better then that, we need a manager who will build a foundation that can to better then just winning a League Cup.
Gone: Downing shows real loyalty to us

I agree with you there it does make play a bit more narrow, but I feel we need better central midfielders to sort that problem.
