Internet won't work

My laptop has suddenly decided to no longer entertain the idea of connecting to the internet.  This is despite saying it has a full connection and every other computer on the network is working fine.

I know it is going to be something really simple but can't get my head around what/  I've tried fiddling with my wireless adapters and firewalls etc. but no cigar.

I'm out of ideas, anybody know what it could be?

Thanks in advance.

Try doing a system restore to when it last worked.

Can you do anything internet \ based ? - ie does your virus checker update ?

Connect via ethernet cable - see if that works ?

If its wireless can you see any other networks ?

disconnect completely and reenter the wfi password

PM me and I will come a fix it (for a small fee)

What operating system is it?

First thing to do is to check the IP.

Assuming it's Windows Vista/7/8 go...

Start > In the search box type 'cmd' > Then in the command prompt which will appear type "ipconfig".

You'll see something like this...

tutorialIpconfig.jpg

Look at the IPv4 settings and make sure the ip address is a 192.168.x.x address rather than a 169.x.x.x

Or, alternatively it may be that your DNS settings have got a bit messed up.

In the black box (pictured above) type...

ping www.google.co.uk

If you get a request timeout try...

ping 173.194.41.191

If pinging the 173 address works then it's a DNS error.
