Wainy316
My laptop has suddenly decided to no longer entertain the idea of connecting to the internet. This is despite saying it has a full connection and every other computer on the network is working fine. I know it is going to be something really simple but can't get my head around what/ I've tried fiddling with my wireless adapters and firewalls etc. but no cigar. I'm out of ideas, anybody know what it could be? Thanks in advance.

PieFacE Posted November 7, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted November 7, 2013 (edited) What operating system is it? First thing to do is to check the IP. Assuming it's Windows Vista/7/8 go... Start > In the search box type 'cmd' > Then in the command prompt which will appear type "ipconfig". You'll see something like this... Look at the IPv4 settings and make sure the ip address is a 192.168.x.x address rather than a 169.x.x.x Or, alternatively it may be that your DNS settings have got a bit messed up. In the black box (pictured above) type... ping www.google.co.uk If you get a request timeout try... ping 173.194.41.191 If pinging the 173 address works then it's a DNS error.
