  1. Sunday 7:52 (that's pm) and 54/45%. No doubt about it, Houllier is staying!

Maybe but the government still got elected even though the majority of the voters didn't want them. Lerner et al will be monitoring and gauging fans feelings. Whether they do anything about it is anyones guess.

  2. Stay for me- that was not a performance of a team that is doomed.

How many other teams could cope with 3 main central defenders out?

I still believe we are making progress on the pitch, a bit of luck wouldn't go amiss

I may have missed something but I thought that we didn't cope and that is why we lost.

  3. The truth is, if we would have won today which we should have there would not be such a reaction. It would have papered over a lot of cracks.

The FA cup team selection was disrespectful to put it lightly, however I will stand by the opinion that todays defeat is not Houlliers fault. What has to be taken into consideration by the board is that the form is a disgrace. Ok we have had injuries, but the squad at his disposal is very much top 6 standard and should be doing better.

We are in a terrible position and the players as well as the manager need to make sure they give us something to cheer about in what has been a write off season.

A lot of things Houllier has done are wrong, and he will continue to make mistakes, but he is trying to adopt a different philosphy at villa. We have a right to voice our opinions to the board and the manager but I believe Houllier will be here next season unless we are relegated.

This post is not to stick up for Houllier, as I have said he has made almost unforgivable mistakes but we need to stay behind him as it only affects the team if we start getting on his back!

But our form over the last few games has been top 6 form. GH is beginning to turn it around.

One win in five? Have you ever considered a career on stage? You made me laugh...

We won the 2 games previous to those 5 and we were very unlucky not to win today.

We've just put together 2 of our best performance of the season back to back...if we'd have won today, which we would have done 8/10 with the chances we had, then we'd be 9th...2 points off 8th. Would people be moaning then???

    They would wouldn't they

If Bob had a sex change he would be my Auntie. If this, if that, if the other. The league table doesn't reflect 'ifs' it just reflects 'whats'.

  4. Stay.

I can at least see what he is trying to do, we are all happy with Bent when he signed and if he knew how to shoot today we would have smashed them. Lets not overreact, we also had a complete second string defence out. Let him get his own defenders in, own keeper and then judge him. We will only have the same problem if we sack him where we need to give another manager loads of time and next season would just be another pointless one.

Oh yea, every other club throughout history that has sacked their manager in March has had a pointless season the season after. How stupid of me to forget this.

  5. Season bad another risk we can?

Year next year poor a have we if need we the quality, the attracting players good our of hold keeping to do it, what would?

    Is that Welsh?

    No it's gibberish.

  6. Without making too many excuses today we were missing three big centre backs. Which made a hidge differnce. All though I still really fancied us to get a result there.

I when we started playing a CB at RB a few years ago, I did not understand the logic, but i grew to love the 3 CBS, as we has one of the best defenses.

We need to start playing with 3 CBS and LB this is evident from our defending today and the rest of the season. Are there any people that think we should still play 2 CBs?

Let me have a think about that for a micro second. No, I don't think we should have 3 centre backs. If that was the route to success then Ferguson, Wenger, Redknapp, Ancelotti and Mancini plus quite a few others must be getting it wrong year upon year.

So are you comparing us on a like to like basis with United, Arsenal City ect.

We are knowhere as good as those teams - thats the point. If we had the players that those teams had then I would def say you are right but we dont.

Whats your evidence for this? Heres mine...!

How Many Goals from corners have we lately?

How many clean sheets have we kept recently?

How many set pieces have we conceded from lately?

Was our defense better this year or last year....!

    Yardi Yarda Yardi....!

    Although Walker does look quality...!

    8)

Yardi Yarda Yardi.... how very immature.

So you think having 3 centre backs and a left back is the way we should play? Why not 3 centre backs and a right back or is it that we are okay at left back and weak on the right side s a centre back at right full back is the solution. Be interested to know your experience as a player, coach and manager.

  8. Those who know about football that want him to stay.

There's then those who think they know about football but actually don't. They want him to go!! OMGZ 6th last season 13th this season he's RUBBISHZ !!!11

I know this post sounds arrogant but it really is that simple.

So those that want him to go know nothing about football. What is your football CV like?

  9. Stay.....for now. Whatever anyone says the quality of football is miles better than we've seen in years...I would give him this summer to sort the defence out (ie bring some new players in) and judge him at the end of next season. The current defence is pretty much the same one we had under MON and we weren't exactly solid at the back under him, so give Houllier a chance to change it.

I hate MON with a passion but actually our defence was pretty good and one of the best in the division.

  10. First of all, people that actually saw the game will know that this defeat was not GH's fault. We went there to win the game and could/should have been out of sight, we missed 3 chances I could have put away and a penalty and we still can't defend set pieces and Bolton knew it.

If you didn't see the game, then you probably would have thought "Houllier's fault" but wait until you see highlights, jesus christ our finishing was awful, that is not the managements fault! Believe me I was as angry at GH after Wednesday as the next Villa fan so am not his greatest fan! It's an absolute tragedy we lost that game today and everyone knows it, 3 Bolton fans said the same after the match, they feel guilty walking away with 3 points. But the records will say Bolton 3-2 Aston Villa and nothing else, sums up our season IMO. Gutted...

The problem is when we play worse than the opposition we generally lose and when we play better than the opposition we generally lose so by default there must be something wrong with the management of the situation.

  11. As the thread originator I will say Go now. GC & KM can see us through to the end of the season and then we can appoint. There are other managers that know how to play football the right way and could get us to defend properly and who would not throw a cup match.

  12. I know it is easy to start meandering off when posting on a thread, I've no doubt done it myself. If we could just stick to the topic and state stay or go with just a brief reason if necessary then I think, even without a poll, we may gauge a level of opinion.

  13. Moderators, can we have a poll please as to whether Houllier has the backing of the fans on this forum or whether it is time for him to go while there is still time for someone to keep us up and assess the damage in readiness for next season.

  14. Just got home from the game. Things needs to change on that training ground immediately! Back to basics and ALOT of work on defending because this free kicks and corners situation is well beyond a joke now. Absolutely school boy defending once again. Not only do we not win the header, we also lose the 2nd ball. It doesn't matter that we had a makeshift back four, they are all defenders and should be capable enough to defend a corner or free kick. **** this zonal marking, I've never been a fan. Go man marking and do NOT lose him. If you can't win the header then atleast stop the attacking player from winning it cleanly!

Friedel is terrible now. He hardly comes for anything and whenever he does he misses it or gets a poor touch on it. He's experienced enough and he should be helping to take the pressure off the back four by commanding his area alot more! A new keeper in the summer is a must.

I don't understand how players like Young and Downing can continue to miss sitters from 6 yards out! It's totally unacceptable. Smash it into the back of the net for **** sake!!! Things need to change BIG TIME! We had a real chance to pull away from the bottom today and once again we have managed to **** it up. With Fulham, West Ham, Everton and West Brom all winning today we have been pulled right back into the shit! The Wolves game isn't even a '6 pointer' it's a **** '9 pointer' but they will come to Villa park and park the bus and we will struggle to break them down and more than likely drop points AGAIN! It comes to something when I am happy that Wigan are losing to Man City! That just about sums this season up! What a write off!

I actually don't think Wolves will 'park the bus' at VP. We are a soft touch at the back especially from set pieces and McCarthy will know that and ensure that hist team go for the jugular.

  15. With the scum losing at home to the baggies and some of the other results going our way we had the perfect chance to climb away from danger. We now only have one game left this month to correct the **** ups Houllier has made this week.

Lerner, I hope you were watching today because season ticket sales will reflect the results on the pitch.

And do you think we will beat Wolves because I don't. Wolves will come and park the bus at VP and try to catch us out at set pieces. I can almost see McCarthy drilling his players for those sort of chances.

OK sides can miss chances and we have missed plenty. The real problems we have are:

We are such a soft touch at set pieces that its untrue and every side in the PL knows that.

Equally we waste our set pieces and the chief culprit is Young. Woeful deliver from corners and his free kicks are just little short of laughable.

GH is licking his arse on a permanent basis to get him to stay by making him the captain and giving him the opportunity to do precisely what he wants on the pitch. He'll be off in the summer whatever happens. The only good thing is we will get a decent fee for him.

No I don't think we will beat Wolves. I have no faith in GH or his tactics. He blames everyone and everything but himself.

  16. I am so glad that the manager threw the FA Cup match at Man Citeh in midweek because it made all the difference to the league result at Bolton didn't it.

General, whilst you may not be in charge of Aston Villa you are the only person us fans can communicate with to get a message to Randy Lerner.

Please take this message to him.

See Gerard Houllier for what e really is and what he has done to our club and get rid of him before the end of the season and appoint someone that can assess what is needed to get us challenging again next season. If Mr Lerner fails to act then my son and I will not be the only ones that do renew their season tickets at the end of this very very depressing and disappointing season

  18. I would also backup Houllier in one aspect, we had our 3 first choice centre halfs out. 3 of our back 4 were 21 and under.

I think you will find that we only had one experienced defender against Man Citeh too yet Houllier defended is team selection that night by stating that he played internationals and that he had a good squad and that he had to use it.

Based on his logic then there can be no excuse for the fact that 3 of the defenders today were 21 and under. He dictates the tactics in the match, he dictates the training methods, he picks the team and he is the manager so it is his responsibility.

  19. On the subject of Houllier's responsibility. He's responsible for our softness and lack of spirit. He's responsible for what happened on Weds against City and the effect that had on the boys.

But I think that's as far as it goes today. He picked the best team he could and they played well enough to win. The defence was a disaster because of who was in there. Nothing Houllier can do about that when Dunne, Collins and Cuellar are out.

Nope, the attacking players had to carry the team today and failed when it mattered, most glaringly with Ash's penalty miss. This one is on the players.

Houllier has been unable to get the team to defend properly since the day he walked through the door. It doesn't matter who he picks they just leak goals.
