  1. Don't think for one minute Anyone other than Petrov will be made club captain unless he leaves.

Pires was a really good player, some might say he was a great player but the important word here is 'was'.

He should nevr have been bought in as a player. If Houllier wanted a former star (albeit someone to speak French with) to pass on his knowledge and experience to the younger players then get someone in on the coaching staff but a 37 year old player who was courted by Crawley Town probably isn't quite right for AVFC and it is unlikely he would be accepted as club captain.

  2. Unless we have factual evidence shouldn't we stop having a go at players etc. It is just possible that they get to know what is being said in these forums. The way things are going there won't be a player or member of the management team who hasn't been verbally assassinated on these boards and at the moment we need all the help we can get without p**sing off the only people that can do something about the situation.

  3. Villa are one of a small number of clubs that have never been out of the Premier League so hopefully Lerner and Houllier will now work their socks off to keep us up so that they don't go down in history as the men who achieved the unmentionable.

We can just keep supporting, hoping and cheering them on at VP because it is out of our hands.

  4. What a turnaround in fortune. That we are debating whether to sell or let go on a free transfer one of our better players. First Barry, then Milner and now Young.

It seems like only a few seasons ago that the Board were talking up the Champions League as being part of our 5 year plan.

Oh well, c'est la vie, back to the reality of supporting AVFC.

  5. Standing at a football match was never unsafe. What is unsafe is either allowing too many supporters into a section of ground and exceeding its capacity oand/or mindless morons who cannot control themselves and cause injuries to others.

I stood on the Holte end during the 70's and 80's in bigger attendances than we get today and never once got injured becuase of it.

I would gladly support a standing area at VP if it would stop the dickhead casual fans around me in the lower Doug Ellis stand from standing up every time there is a corner even though they can see the action equally as well sitting down.

  6. The only glimmer of hope tonight was the fans, who are a true credit for the club. Out-sang the 'famous KOP' even when 3-0 down on a miserable monday night.

I'm torn because while Houllier is clearly not getting things right, I feel totally let down by L.Young, R.Dunne, and J.Collins. Warnock was always a liability after his initial good form. These are experienced players, and as long as Houllier hasn't specifically told them to not mark their men, and clear the ball properly, then the blame rests at them.

How can we expect Gabby and co to keep their heads up when we're doing O.K going forward but concede as soon as we lose posession? We're in contention to score first, but then your back line, and your captain, are making hideous gaffes all over the shop and we concede twice.

I was very disappointed with the attitude tonight but I thought our offensive players were largely blameless.

    We had some offensive players?
