  1. Or 4th, which we objectively have more of a chance of finishing in than 6th. 5th is by far the most likely though.
  2. My point is that people in here tend to massively overreact to things.
  3. I mean we should've won the game regardless but the refereeing definitely had an impact on that game more than most.
  4. I presume things are all terrible again now that Spurs have (as expected) beaten Forest at home.
  5. Worth noting that United have thrown away 7 points after the 80th minute in the last 3 games (by comparison we've gained 1 point in that time).
  6. Irrelevant - they only have 7 games left and the gap is already large enough that they already have to put together a ridiculous run of results to even have a chance of overtaking us. Also, we widened the gap by 2 points last weekend.
  7. Another weekend where United haven't gained any ground on us.
  8. Oh fair enough. Was going to say, at this point in that season we were 5th and only a point ahead of 6th!
  9. If that were the case we would've started KKH and Kellyman.
  10. Diaby and Rogers have been just as good as Bailey lately so the decision to rest the latter made sense even without considering the rotation. At the end of the day, we didn't "throw in the towel". We just didn't. Resting two players who would otherwise play is something teams do all the time. When you're playing as many games as we are and juggling that many injuries it's essential to rotate.
  11. At this point I don't even think it's coaching. Seems to be more mental than anything else.
  12. In recent games Diaby has arguably been just as good if not better than Bailey so really the only two clear ones were Torres and Tielemans. Again, how does that mean he "threw" the game? Please do explain how rotating TWO players who would otherwise start counts as "throwing" the game? It's nonsensical. If Emery really was "throwing" the game he would've started Kellyman, KKH and Chambers surely?
  13. How did we throw in the towel? Because we played Lenglet instead of Torres and Iroegbunam instead of Tielemans? Because literally all the other would be starters who didn't feature were out through injury/illness/suspension. And "giving yourself the best chance you can in every game" sounds nice in theory but is impossible in practice. You have to rotate - it's impossible not to do with the number of games we have.
  14. That isn't how it works at all. Firstly, we didn't "throw in the towel" to begin with, we just rotated a bit, which literally all the top teams do and we need to do especially because of all the injuries we've had. Second, it's not like we "traded" a defeat to Man City for an expected win today therefore because we didn't win today it somehow "backfired" and wasn't worth doing. The point of rotation is to spread out the minutes among the squad more evenly so you can get the most out of your players. You say "point against City" (as if we haven't lost there literally a dozen times in a row) and "maybe today is a win" but what's just as likely would've been a defeat to City, with key players even more tired, and then we lose today. Also, 4th isn't a "pipe dream". Spurs have an advantage of course but we're literally 4th right now with 6 games to go.
  15. We did rest some players tbf (mainly Torres for Lenglet and Tielemans for Iroegbunam) but for some reason it's become conventional wisdom for a lot of people on here to pretend that we basically threw the game and played our reserves.
  16. I know, but he specifically said we got beat, which we didn't. But with the number of games we have you can't avoid rotation. It's impossible. Just because say Bailey didn't look great today doesn't undermine the general point. Literally all the top clubs rotate when they're juggling European competition because there's literally no way around it, especially with the number of injuries we've had.
  17. We have a squad wrecked with injuries/suspensions. When you're playing the number of games we've been playing this season it's literally impossible to simply put out your best team every game. You have to rotate. Also, we didn't get beat today?
  18. If I had to bet I'd bet on us getting zero points from those games but not really sure where you're getting this "guaranteed defeat" stuff from? A fixture can be very difficult without being a guaranteed loss. Why does everything have to be so extreme?
  19. Yeah I think people don't really consider this. It works both ways. Also, it's ridiculous how much people are exaggerating the changes against City. The way people were acting you'd think we put out the reserves.
  20. None of them are guaranteed defeats. The only game you could reasonably pass off as a guaranteed defeat was City away.
  21. United have to play one more game than Newcastle. At this stage of the season it can make quite a difference.
  22. They'd have to basically win almost every single remaining game to overtake us, and that's assuming we barely pick up any more points.
