  1. Even under the very best of circumstances (a completely fit, full squad) we'd struggle against City away, as indeed most teams do. The simple fact is that we gained more for the next two games by resting some key players/giving them less minutes than what we lost for the City game. Even if Tielemans, Bailey and Torres had started, our chances of winning or getting a draw would've only been marginally better, while ensuring that our chances against Brentofrd and Lille took a much bigger hit. Now of course we could still lose those upcoming games, but on balance it was clearly the right thing to do. Emery knows what he's doing.
  2. Not *quite*. We're almost there though. Beat Brentford on Saturday though and we can declare top 5 officially sealed.
  3. This result is still a killer for us. Excluding penalties, Man United had a much superior xG. Very concerning.
  4. Brilliant. Just brilliant. Those Manc words removed are done. They are **** done now.
  5. Haha United throwing away 2 points right at the death yet again.
  6. A bit like judging games based on the xG instead of the actual result?
  7. They have the mother of all psychological edges over us, and sadly always will. It's never going away now.
  8. Yes. And no I don't necessarily think Man City fans are worse, just that the club is the worst of them all.
  9. I genuinely would like to see Man City completely liquidated. I despise them with a passion.
  10. He does but in a game like that it's unlikely he would've been able to single-handedly get us a draw or a win.
  11. Let's be realistic here. Pau, as good as he is, wouldn't have made a whole lot of difference last night.
  12. Fair play to him he was outstanding tonight. At one point I was momentarily nonplussed by one of his very good saves because I defaulted to "Martinez is in goal and he does this every week" mode before remembering that it was Olsen.

There's surprisingly little hype about him outside Villa circles. If he played for United or Liverpool you can guarantee he'd be being massively hyped up.
  14. Neither could crumble. We could just both keep bobbing along in the same way we are now.
  15. It's probable that Torres is carrying an injury of some kind. At the end of the day, Bailey over Rogers and Tielemans over Iroegbunam, while better, wouldn't have improved our chances significantly.
  16. McCoist is crap. If you didn't know his name you'd think it was some slightly drunk guy they'd pulled off the street.
  17. Provided there are no new injuries to key players we don't yet know about (e.g. Torres), my views on our chances of getting Champions League football are precisely the same as they were this morning. Tonight hasn't changed anything either way.
  18. Ah so when we get results (4 wins in our last 7), things are still terrible and we're still terrible, because... xG. Ok.
  19. Also, I think tonight is a good example of why you can't simply write off a game a certain way (many were predicting 5 or 6 goal drubbings) just from the lineup.
  20. Would expect that scoreline even if we had all our players (including Kamara, Mings, Buendia etc) playing so can't be too disappointed with that. Just hope Watkins, Torres and Martinez are all back for the weekend. Olson MOTM.
  21. Most of them are enforced? Torres and to a lesser extent Bailey and Tielemans (I could forsee tactical reasons to leave the latter two on the bench) vs Martinez, Mings, McGinn, Ramsey, Buendia and Watkins. And that's without getting into the fact that even resting players isn't entire a choice as injuries mean we have to rotate more than we'd like.
  22. Yeah he loves it because he's a crap manager, isn't that right?
  23. Well, Martinez might. We know for a fact he's out with illness.
  24. Because the depleted squad means we can't play first team players every game now and need to rest them sometimes.
