I just really want this guy at a new club next season. I'm tired of seeing him flapping around sapping the confidence of our entire back line.

Hope Monchi sees this. VT has spoken, get to selling Bailey and get Philogene into the starting 11.

Ange-ball. Firing 30+ aimless crosses into the box. Finally on the 31st they get lucky and win a pen.

I want to really like him but I’m at the point now watching games where I just expect him to lose the ball or our attack to break down when it gets to him.
I’ve been saying this for some time now, but what is he? He’s not a no.10 for me and I don’t think he can play as a striker. That leaves the right wing position which is usually occupied by Bailey or McGinn on the right of midfield.
I feel he’ll never be what he could be or what we want him to be, certainly at £45m, until he locks down a position and gets a run of games there. It speaks volumes that a kid from Boro signed for 8m in January has shown more in 7 games than he has all season quite frankly.
He’s a bit of a problem. I hope he comes back next season raring to go having used his first season to really acclimatise to the league. I think we all like to point to the Bailey example but let’s not forget that, that is an anomaly rather than the norm.
Has to do A LOT more.
Most signings don't hit the ground running . Almost every signing we have made has needed time. Douglas was played out of position and took multiple seasons to find his groove in the double pivot. McGinn looked like the PL was to big of an ask before Unai showed up. Most signings either don't work out or take some time to acclimate. A signing coming out the gate flying like Rogers is the anomaly.
Also mentioning a price tag like £45 million is kind of small time. That's nothing for a CL club. They pay that just to get a squad player. If that's the club we are fighting to join then price tags like that, and higher, will quickly become the norm.

Not a chance
That's a really simple header
How, the keeper is outside the box. Once the keeper leaves the box the header back is never on. To me it looks like Olsen is coming to give it a hoof but Carlos calls him off. Emi absolutely plays that much calmer and that calamity defending never develops.

Would anyone here trade places with Spurs. I highly doubt it. We are a good but not great position for CL. Amazing place to be after the 5-1 loss to start the season versus Newcastle.

Diego took the decision without sighting the keeper
The ball was head height. 99 out of 100 times that's headed back to the keeper and he can easily pick it up. Olsen was grossly out of position which forced Carlos to try that comical clearance attempt. Just terrible defending by all involved.

nearly cost us the game at the end (Carlos didn’t help either)
No confidence in him and you can tell the defenders feel the same
He forced Carlos into an awful situation. Hopefully he worked out the kinks so he's ready Thursday.

In most of our Conference League games this season, even though we've won most of them, we've seemed like we're playing in 2nd gear. Lille away especially it felt like we were doing the bare minimum. Do wonder now if it was a conscious choice.
Resting in possession is absolutely a thing under Unai. I guess you could use it to ding him, since Villa isn't going to give you an amazing performance every time out. The pluses are numerous though. Can beat teams at a trot, most PL wins in Villa history, most goals scored......
Sitting here thinking resting in possession is an obvious tactical response to the high pressing craze sweeping football. Unai has been doing this for years which that just shows his level of tactical genius.

Kid is an absolute unit. To be that skilled as well is almost unfair. Comical that Bournemouth thought Smith could mark him 1v1.
-
Bournemouth trying to man mark him with Adam Smith was hilarious. Rogers has 4 inches and 30#s on him. In Unai's system where the wide men drift inside any man marking team are going to have there hands full trying to deal with Rogers.

Never thought I'd ask, but does he get back into the team?
Yes of course. We aren't going to play the same 11 week in and week out. I'd put money on him coming back firing, just like McGinn did after his ban.

Poor Zabarnyi must have felt like he was in a washer machine on spin. Just getting turned every which way. Amazing second half performance by Watkins. Deserved a goal, which means he will score twice versus Chelsea.

Crazy when two of your worlds randomly collide like this.

"I miss him, I have to say"
Of course you **** miss him. Arsenal would have won the league twice in a row with him and not Ramsdale or Raya in goal
Truly will be one of the great what ifs 10 years from now. If this current Arsenal team can never secure the PL or CL people will always circle back them selling us Emi.
Then the cherry on top is we also have a boyhood Arsenal fan who is going to have multiple 20+ goals scored seasons. The schadenfreude potential is through the roof. Us ruining their title challenge this year is just the beginning.

So much more fun to cheer for a guy that everyone hates. Emi versus the French is peak entertainment. Hope we get multiple away days in France for the CL next year. Each match will be the most watched game worldwide that day.

Amazing pen by Ollie. Crowd did everything they could to freeze him out and he just banged it top bins anyway.

He's the World #1!!!

Put in an absolutely massive shift. He was still sprinting the length of the pitch at 80+ minutes. If he's happy with 35 appearances and maybe 15 starts sign him up. Still think he moved back to seria A and tears it up next season.

I'm honestly not getting why some seem perturbed about his comments.
He was frustrated and being honest.
He won't be the first or last player to make post game comments like this.
I'm sure even McGinn and Emi have done similar at some point.
He even went out of his way to make it clear that he wasn't trying to slate his team mates.
Doesn't mean he's all of a sudden gotten an inflated ego and is itching for a move.
This is why players give standard, boring responses to the media. If Unai says it we all nod our heads and keep it moving. I know it's only a few posters but I am really struggling to understand those who put a negative spin on what Ollie said.

Dougie is the best midfielder at Villa and the margin isn't even close. The #1 piece of evidence, that fraud Steven sat him, Watkins and Mings on the bench. Pretty much the spine of our team under Unai.

I really like Konsa but he was a shambles yesterday. That was League 2 defending we saw.
The most unforgivable moment was the cross for the 3rd goal. He could and should have closed that cross down.
He played almost with an air of arrogance which doesn't suit him at all. Hopefully much improved during the week.
I feel like this is where I'm at as well. It's like Brentford lulled him to sleep with that first half of zero attacking. When they picked up the tempo his concern level never really elevated.
Konsa's weakness is his attacking attributes from RB. He should have easily been able to handle the defensive responsibilities. Needed Mings there to get in his sh*t after that first goal went in.

To the posters who continue to mention United. Have you actually watched them play? Even if they were to miraculously beat Liverpool they will blow a sure fire win against lower half opposition. Fergie can't hurt us anymore guys.

That same lineup has put in numerous better performances with Emi backing them. If you have played the game you know how much a nervous keeper can affect your play. He inspires zero confidence when he plays and just like clockwork we concede 2-3 goals with him starting.
You can say none of the goals were his fault but end of he just isn't good enough. Could you imagine him in a CL game. God forbid a CL knockout. Don't hate the guy Villa can do better.
