  1. A press conference will be held on Tuesday in Bergen, NJ to release the voluminous findings of a ten-month investigation into the death of boxing legend Arturo Gatti. Private investigators Paul Ciolino of Chicago and Joseph Moura of Boston have been hired by Gatti’s manager Pat Lynch to investigate Gatti’s death. The three-time world champion Gatti was found dead in his rented vacation apartment in Brazil on July 11, 2009 at the age of 37. Brazilian police arrested Gatti’s wife Amanda Rodrigues, only to release her three weeks later. The Brazilian authorities have ruled Gatti’s death a suicide. A number of medical and scientific expert witnesses from across the country will also make brief presentations which Ciolino and Moura say will conclusively lay to rest the mystery surrounding Gatti’s cause of death.
  2. Just days after pulling out of his fight this weekend, Kelly Pavlik comes out with this cracker:

And then there was my favorite part of the interview: Pavlik was recalling the advice a friend gave him a few days earlier, and asked Kohut, "Can I say a cuss word?"

    "Go ahead," Kohut responded.

"He said, 'It would be asinine for you to take the fight.'"

Whoever said Boxers aren't the brightest?

  3. Oh dear... Henry the hugger... Haye wasn't that bad was he?
No where near, if anything Klitschko was doing the hugging. Which is why it made me laugh when everyone was acting like it was the worst fight ever. There's a long history of really bad heavyweight fights.

That's what happens when Sky and the press hype it up as if it's going to be a war. Wlad wasn't holding as much as usual to be fair.

I'm struggling to remember the last good heavyweight title fight. Brewster-Liakhovich?

  4. It's easy to forget just how good Mike was during his absolute peak. If only he had lived right. If only Cus D'Amato had been 10 years younger. If only he had never met Don King eh? Who knows what he could have achieved.

I like the comment at the end "The only thing that can beat Mike Tyson, is Mike Tyson himself".

One of the things that was so good about that is that he had 28 fights in those first 20 months. Today the 'prospects' are far too inactive for my liking, especially in this country. Look at Frankie Gavin, just 8 fights in the same period as Tyson.

a Lewis video I saw the other day and liked. Interesting picture of Tyson and Lewis as kids in a gym together at the start. Good quote from Lewis at the end as well: "I'd love history to just speak it the way it is. I mean, I'm basically making my own history. My problem is, will they write it down correctly?"
  5. Just watched the fight. As a Birmingham Irishman, I would have loved Macklin's sheer heart and guts to have carried him through - don't think it was daylight robbery, but thought the scoring was a little unfair.

Where do you think the rematch will be?

Certainly not a robbery in my eyes but it could have gone either way, the way boxing is you always knew which way it was going to go. The 116-112 cards were a bit of a joke but the margin doesn't really matter.

I'm not convinced there will be a rematch to be honest. It wouldn't be the first time someone promised one and then turned their back on it. If it does come off, don't expect Sturm to step foot out of Germany.

  6. Anyone know if the Haye fight can be purchased on Virgin Media? Done a bit of searching but it doesn't look like it can be.

Yeah you can mate. It's done through the on demand section but can only be done on the day of the fight I think.

Would love to see Macklin win tonight.. odds are heavily stacked against him mind.

    I wouldn't. War Sturm.

  7. No problem, Rob.

You could say so, Rev. Rhodes just couldn't pull the trigger and was taking plenty of punishment as a result.

Comparing him to Martinez is a bit harsh at age 20. Martinez kicks the shit outta most at the moment! Including Darren Barker in October.

Good night of Boxing on Saturday.

    On Sky from 8:30:

    -Kell Brook vs Lovemore N'Dou

-Felix Sturm vs Matthew Macklin (WBA strap)

and then on Premier Sports from 3am:

    -Devon Alexander vs Lucas Matthysse

-Cornelius Bundrage vs Sechew Powell (IBF strap)

  8. Haye talking a lot of shit. He seems to have got to Wlad a little bit. It seems to me that Wlad really does just see this as a sport and fights are never personal. Haye is doing his level best to make it personal. Interesting to see such a clash of personalities.

It's worth remembering that they recorded that about 3 weeks ago. Since that they've had the press conference's where Haye seemed a lot more subdued than normal. It was strange when Wlad just stared at him after the Vitali question. When the fight was signed I was expected Haye to really go for it with the shit talking, but other than that face-off video, we haven't really seen it.

  9. Yeah, made me laugh that did. I think it's a fight worth the big sell. Two good talking (When Del fancies it) heavyweights coming together in what I see as a real 50-50. It would be terrible if this is completely ignored by Sky and lost to an obscure channel, but it doesn't look like it will if Frank's not lying. I dunno, even when Chisora was signed to fight Wlad, Tyson was saying that he was ducking him. I don't think there is any real dislike between the two but Tyson sees him as the man between himself and the Lonsdale belt.

He's something incredible in that Williams fight. I think a lot of people have that down as Ali's best. It just makes you wonder about Vietnam..

  10. Still havent got around to watching the Froch fight. I did catch Prizefighter though, and I think we have seen the end of Junior Witter now. He will potter around for a few more fights no doubt, but I think his days of being able to get world class opponents are over.

Anyway, I didn't bump the thread for that, I just saw that Amir Khan has signed to defend his title against Zab Judah at 140lbs. I haven't been following Judah too closely recently, but I understand he is in good form of late. I think Khan will have too much for him though. It's a shame Tim Bradley is ducking Khan, because I think that is a fight which needs to happen. I also think Khan will win that.

He did better than I was expecting given how awful he looked in that fight in Canada. Of course I hope he retires now, he's never going to get back to anywhere near the level he was before. I don't think there's great public demand for him to keep going either.

Khan vs Judah is a good fight. It's more than possible that he could walk Khan onto a big shot. I'm not sure ducked is the right way to put it regarding Bradley. I think that Tim isn't in the same rush that Khan is to get the fight signed, it's one I'm sure will happen in near future providing neither man loses. On the same night is the big heavyweight fight between Dereck Chisora and Tyson Fury. According to Warren's column in the sun it is going to be screened on channel 5. Presumably as a way of promoting the Khan fight which is on Primetime PPV.

Floyd Mayweather has announced he's fighting WBC titleist Victor Ortiz in September. One I expect him to win without to much trouble but it's still a fight I'm looking forward to. Anyway, it's being reported that Floyd is covering all of the costs of Genaro Hernandez's funeral who passed away this week.

  11. Didn't get chance to catch this fight. Is it worth getting a torrent of? And what was the deal with the score cards? It always makes me raise an eyebrow when two judges score it fairly comfortably in one man's favour and the other one doesn't.

I'd say it's worth watching, definitely.

I had it to Froch by 5 I think and some of the US press had it by 6 or 7 so the even card does seem strange, but a lot of the rounds were very tight and if you favour aggression, I can see why you would give rounds to Johnson.

The Zbik vs Chavez Jr fight was the best scrap last night. Well worth watching.

  12. Jim McDonnell is getting the sack.

Oh absolutely, wrong sort of fight from JD, think they thought it was turn up, hit and win. Got to go down to McDonnell that.

I honestly think Adam Booth was the difference between the two tonight. I've given him stick for his work with Groves before but tonight he really pulled it out. I wouldn't be surprised if Frank sent DeGale to the states ala Khan.

Definitely the difference, had the plan and the training 100% spot on. to be fair, Booth has been brilliant in Hayes corner too so maybe it is no shock. I really have to admit, tonight has given me a different perspective on Groves, really really like the way he was so tactically spot on.

I've never slated his work with Haye, it's been fantastic. Nor his corner work for that matter. What I was critical of was how he seemed to be trying to mould Groves into Haye mk2. If you watch the fight with Anderson, tactically he was dreadful. He righted those wrongs tonight though.

  13. Jim McDonnell is getting the sack.

  14. You dislike groves? the bloke says **** all degale is the loudmouth tosser

Whats with his rediculous warmup routine as well whats that all about.

Groves has said plenty in his time. After he beat Adamu he did an interview where he was giving all his rivals nicknames. "Carl 'Dodger Dilks", "James 'Destinetofail'".
