  1. if you do the same things you get the same results,

DS must see a different player in wes than most, he bought him so he has the right to select him,

all the best Mr Smith ..i really hope you win this game at home. if not he blame is on you

To add to this, and this is probably the last time I'm gonna bring this point up since its a bit annoying havign to bring it up again and again with no counter.

How many Sean Dyche situations are there outside of well, Sean Dyche? I found only 2 other situations of a similar situation happening of a manager bringing up a clup to the PL, getting relegated again and the club sticking by them. Both were sacked the very first season they were in the championship again. There's actually more examples of a club suffering from sticking under a manager through relegation than sticking by them.

Secondly, whilst Burnley are doing decent now, does anybody actually know where they would be had they actually sacked their manager? They could've survived relegation and continue to build from there, instead of having to take the risk of going back down without ever knowing if they could in fact go back up again. If there is an alternate universe possibility of Burnley surviving relegation and continuing to build even whilst in the PL, surely that would be considered even more of a success then what actually happened to them? Not to diminish Dysche's accomplishments but its hard to say sticking with him was the best decision when no one knows where Burnley would actually be if they sacked him.

good points..however i have never posted -smith out-..not once,

the model of sticking with your manager might be the one the wealthy owner feel is the way forward

smith MIGHT turn villa into a solid prem outfit ..who knows

Performances mean squat, it’s results that count!

its both really..take the brighton game, we won but the performance was bad v 10 men..you get found out in this league.brighton will finish above villa not because they have spent 150m ,because they are solid & organised.

Yes he has a blueprint and it got Burnley relegated initially.  If you were a Burnley fan at that time I doubt very much you would be saying it’s ok if we get beaten every week. Dyche has a blueprint so it’s ok.

If Dyche took over us now history suggests we’d get relegated too, he needed years to get Burnley playing as they are.

    Hindsight’s a wonderful thing isn’t it?

its the here & now, lets give smith 6 years.

lets sit on our seats with our fingers crossed for the next 20 games, i hope smith says .. see told ya..

You know it took Burnley around 6 years including a relegation to be able to play the way they do. It’s a shame Smith is expected to it overnight. Hopefully if he does get sacked there is a manager out there that can do it overnight.

but SD had a blueprint, his backroom staff worked on it.

if dyche was to take over at the villa & was told ..err john terry will be working with you etc, dyche would say no thanks,he dont fit in to the plans, not needed.

different manager to smith.but if santa was to bring a manager to replace smith ,thats the sort of manager that would get our club on track

  6. i think we can all agree, we like dean smith, one of us, nice bloke, fairy tail stuff -promotion.

the john terry combo thing, his insta photos look great-but has he made villa solid with his coaching?

we probably dont want big sam,we want a solid football team like burnley or the like but we dont,

I would love for Dean Smith to get Villa playing like Sheff Utd, trying not to be too ambitious.

I would be happy if we could.

again were talking organised basic football, every player knowing their role in the game, same applies with burnley ,

  8. if villa go down jack & mings are gone,

the owners have to face a simple option ..stick or twist.

stick with DS or change , 20 games left, 15 points from 18 to date thats not a point from a game , your looking at 32 points at this rate ,its not enough.

  9. Just now, villalad21 said:

No i don't think Smith would make top 2 in the Championship with this team.

Certainly not with Wesley as number 9

i agree, its the old saying , unless you recognize the problem & deal with ,

  10. look at it in another way..if this villa side was to play 18 games in the championship right now,, do you think DS would guide villa to the top?

would wes start banging them in ?

could villa control games & see out games ?

if you think yes then were all good. because we could be in that league next year with out a couple of our better players, this is a realistic picture .

Yep. The style of play is simply too naive.

Farke's style will cause relegation. Smith's style will cause relegation, Wilder's won't.

As a promoted team what is the best way getting results? Bombing forward when you come up against better players in every position every week, leaving yourself exposed at the back. Or stay organized, making yourself hard to beat?

    organised -simple basic football

It's not about the formation. It's about the instructions. The shape. There is too big of a gap from midfield to defense.

Smith is telling our fullbacks and midfield to bomb forward and it leaves a lot of space to the opponent.

We are very easy to play against. Just wait for us to go forward, win the ball and counter us to pieces.

systems are a smoke screen.. look at the headed goal southampton scored ,or any of the goals in that game,

if you think playing 442-54321,911 or any other way, its basic football

Our wage bill really isn't that cheap lol. There's some people we don't know their wages of, but just by finding the average of all the wages of the players before and just assuming these guys earned somewhere around that level, we're actually 17th or 16th in the table(can't remember precisely, I did this calculation yesterday but I neglected to post it). However, our approximate wage bill if I remember correctly was actually around the level of the bottom 7 clubs on the wage bill table anyway, its not significantly lower than their's.I distinctly remember it was higher than Brighton's and way higher than the other 2 promoted clubs.

i would guess if your signing for villa you will be on decent doe, thats  because the revenue /backing is more than brighton , however i would take their players & simple football over ours at the present time,

We have been given a massive opportunity.

Promotion  wasn’t in the plan last year when DS took over....there is no way anyone at the club was expecting this year to be a PL season.

Now we have to give ourselves the best chance of staying here instead of the alternative which is fighting for promotion in the quicksand of the Championship.

That will require us as fans to get behind the team.

The team can do their part and start showing the fight that was missing from the last three performances.

Combine both points above with some shrewd January signings and all is not lost.

    UTV

promotion was the aim from the start, villa is a genuine prem club ie fan base/stadium etc,

the fans back the team & DS however the feel good "were back" balloon is deflating, were sitting on 15 points from 18 games ,

if you can honestly see villa staying up or the DS project working, raise your beer aloft .

DS WILL take us down, with or with out mcginn back in the side,

DS is playing a forward who looks like he never played higher than d3,

the brighton game at home papered over the cracks for me, we won with the last kick, we was out played for a hour when they had 10.

if we can not win the next two games , im sorry but..

No one is suggesting Allardyce should be a long term appointment.

His role is to stabilize the club for 2-3 years.

Football has moved on since managers don’t stick around for long , managers are like your cars now,,

when it shows them signs you just move them on & get a new one

He highly criticized our transfer business in the summer. Said it was way too many players in one window.

He would have most likely kept a bunch of the experienced players like Whelan, Jedinak and Adomah and make us hard to beat. And at the same time added 3-4 players with PL experience (Not a bunch of inexperienced players from abroad).

We’re not hard to beat are we

  17. The ultimate question is would Sam have done better with £100m ?
bottom 3 on Xmas day ?
the ship has sailed now but I think over all Sam is better than DS , we are what we are , the board have just given DS a new contract so that’s that .

  18. 2 minutes ago, Adam2003 said:

If Big Sam had come in we might have finished mid table championship. “The comfort of getting us up” indeed. This club...

That’s not to say Sam wouldn’t do well now, he’s a decent manager. But this view is as much guesswork as when people were saying “if Smith had come in a year earlier we would have been promoted a year earlier” (when Smith was the second coming on here three months ago...)

yep, all about personal views..like i said .."i think".. could have been worse your right .

as were sitting where we are now, its now looking great under DS,

  19. i think villa are running at full tilt, ground is full, ST are all gone, in prem league, on tv, run in cup,,

if you can think of how villa can do more?

i have said for years if we had a team that matched our fans.. we would be top 6..how the football gods give us a bottom 3 side is head scratching .

    • Haha 1
  20. i still think big sam was a better fit over DS ,said last year he was the best option,,im sure we would not be in the bottom 3 & playing clueless football,

think sam would put up with wes up top ? no chance ..but we have a manager in DS who is "one of our own".

DS has the comfort of "getting us up" & spending a few quid..but now the bubbles from the champs has a bad taste

  21. huge month ahead. if DS keeps the same players etc you get the same results,if you play wes up top ho does not score ..you get the same results.

the bigger picture, if DS takes us down, the better players are off so DS  has to bring in players.
