Matthew Sorinola and Omar Richards are two young EFL LB we should be targeting IMO as long term replacements  for Taylor and competition for Targett.

Richards has been linked with Bayern as he is out of contract in the summer. Sorinola has broken into the first team for MK Dons this season and preformed very well so far.

Or we can resume our robbery on Brentford and take Rico Henry!

I can't believe anyone's seriously suggesting replacing Targett. Him and Cash are 2 of the most effective FBs in the league

I really didn't think we'd need to upgrade our goalkeeper too at the time when Heaton's playing week in week out.

  3. Left back is the position that we should be looking to either add depth or improve. Wonder what left backs are realistically feasible given that he is:

    - Under the age of 25

    - Instant upgrade to Targett

    - Wants to come to Villa of course

A wildcard I thought of would be Junior Firpo, who didn’t really impress in Barcelona but might revive in a brand new club. Wouldn’t call it an ‘instant upgrade’ though.

Leeds will be the favourites if he is allowed to leave on loan.  Apparently they tried to loan him in the summer.

He almost signed for Leeds a window before he got snatched up by United too (in case anyone didn’t know).

So, who makes way for Barkley.  For me, it's AEG, with Jack moving back to the left.

I honestly think we win  3-1.   Of course that's assuming we play the way we are capable and VAR doesn't give Manure the match.

You can't drop AEG with his current form. Instead AEG can move to the right (which was his natural position anyways) and Jack can move to the left.

We've moved beyond Lingard this summer. He's just not on the same level as our other midfield/attacking options.

I remember reading on an Arsenal fans thread in my local forum prior to us battering them 3-0, most Arsenal fans believe that we’ve got a better midfield than them. Alongside the fact that lingers obviously won’t make a difference here, I’m honestly pleased in how developed our midfield is.

  7. Something that I'd never thought of saying in late December:

    • We are still the best rated team in the 5 major European leagues according to WhoScored (7.03 average match rating)
    • Grealish ranks top in player match ratings
    • Most clean sheets in the PL

  8. Just checked guys, the team that got the most clean sheets in the PL is called Aston Villa!
The center-backs for the other teams must have made a lot of stupid mistakes to lose to the defense led by Tyrone Mings - who is well known for his error-proneness.

  9. Not that I think there’s any sort of rivalry in it, but I hate Leeds and I feel like a significant portion of villans feel the same.
Don’t want them to get relegated. Wanna beat the crap out of them every single time.

you are entitled to your opinion as to the quality of players, as we all are. these debates are what make forums interesting. but it's stuff like this that i really dont get...we move wesley on we are a watkins injury away from davis being our ONLY striker. literally, what planet are you on that you think that moving wesley on is a sensible move? davis has scored 5 goals in 70 appearances for us....SEVENTY! and 3 of those are vs shit teams in the cups. wesley managed that in half a season when new to the league and country

as i said previously, there is no question watkins is better than wesley, but he showed enough last season in patches to indicate he could cut it at this level.

And for those who constantly says Davis is a young bright prospect, Wesley is just a year and a couple months older for goodness sake.

Now is the time to strengthen. If we’re in the top 6 at Xmas, go and spend 80m. It’s a lot easier to do it when you’re 5th than when you’re 15th.

Players will want to come here. If the money is there, spend it.

I certainly don’t mind being called “Doing a Man City”

    1.39 - 1.99 according to xG

It's not like we completely battered them but yes a well deserved win.

Also Holding had a really big chance too.

That McGinn back pass contributed a lot to Arsenal’s xG if I recall correctly.

I'm with you.  He'd be an even more expensive Drinkwater.

At his best, he was a wonderfully gifted footballer but he just doesn't fit the profile of a modern day footballer - he doesn't have the right work ethic and even the best teams in the world can't afford to carry luxury footballers nowadays.  Everybody has to work hard to make a team complete.

Anyway, we'd lose the last few Chinese followers (hanging on from the Xia days) if we bought him in! 😉

We’ll gain a lot of fans from the milk tea alliance though🤣

Rashica has already agreed to join Leverkusen in January hasn't he?  Like you I'd like us to look for a younger understudy for Targett, maybe loan them back til the summer like we did with Guilbert.  Same with a centre half.

We don’t care. We need to sign him to unlock the best thread in VT history.

    Agreed.

Doesn't fit our system. We need a number 9 to challenge Watkins. Wesley is not that player.

Much more suited in a 4-4-2 sytem.

Well if you look at the squad info on our wiki page, it says Wesley is the number 9.

    Our next 6 games.

    Brighton
    West Ham
    Newcastle
    Wolves
    Burnley
    West Brom

    Some very winnable games there.

I don't like Brighton or West Ham. They seem like the teams that we struggle against. Brighton has been extremely unlucky this season despite playing some good football.

    Wolves can always be dangerous.
