If I read anything from the Gerrard thread you have to give a manager 50 games no matter how poor performances are

I am a big believer in picking a Manager & giving him a decent chance. I actually don't think Everton can afford to fire Lampard right now & I really don't think there would be any advantage in doing it. Whether Lampard would go down to the Championship or wether Everton would want him to is another matter. Lampard just doesn't appear to have a clue about the defensive side of the game & that is a huge liability.

Man Utd, Leicester, Liverpool, Chelsea, Leicester their next 5 fixtures.

Burnley and Watford have far easier run ins.

They’re in a lot of trouble. Lampard is an absolute joke of a manager

Lampard is in way over his head. He has no idea how to organize a defence !!

What were Everton thinking ... They needed a real Manager, not a big name football player with very limited managerial experience.

Yep he's supposed to be a bit of a bastard but he's a great coach and tactician. Wasn't a bad player either, he does seem to have a shortish shelf life wherever he goes, always a two/three year project max.

The way he has them playing we're going to have to find another gear or two to get anything out of this game. Hopefully we can avoid a mauling.

Yes, he doesn't seem to stay anywhere very long & I don't expect him to put up with Levy for very long either. He tends to take his toys & go home when things don't go his way.

The Spurs squad is no comparison to ours, in terms of balance......maybe Crystal Palace is the one to make that claim, they were brilliant tonight, doing all the things we don't.

If we don't knock them out of their stride, Like we didn't against Wolves and Arsenal.....we are toast.

I am very impressed with Palace this season, Patrick Vieira has them playing some very nice football. I like that they don't show any respect to the big teams & just absolutely go for it.

The impact Conte has had is very impressive.

Spurs look very organised and most players have improved under him and they look very dangerous going forward.

Would love it if we had some width to our game and it might prevent their fullbacks getting forward so much and hopefully we don't see the 2 number 10s experiment again!

Can only see a Spurs win given the form of both sides but would be great if we could put in a performance.

Conte is a top manager, proven at all levels. He is able to get the most from what he has on hand.

Because he doesn’t fit Gerrard’s style(s) of play.  He’s not the type of striker that fits his system.

It drives me nuts when new managers want to play a system that doesn't fit the existing players ! There has to be some compromise  until a manager can bring in the type of player that suits the way  he wants to play.

Well I won't be getting upset about it. We've got even less chance of winning anything than England.

Apparently you have low expectations. I think England have the players to win if managed correctly & it's a shame we have a weak manager.

    Gahhh.

Trying to put into words why stuff like this annoys me so much, I guess it's just such an offensively safe bet. Like betting on Man City to beat Rushden and Diamonds and then boasting about it afterwards.

Guess what, none of the 12 England managers before him (excluding caretakers) won anything either. We haven't won anything for nearly 60 years. Betting on that continuing - when international tournaments are incredibly hard to win - is just such a cop out.

    Gahhh

I never said that I was betting on him to lose. I was predicting it !!

The fact that we haven't won anything for 60 years has no bearing whatsoever on whether Southgate is a competent manager or not.  I think he is nothing  more than a well spoken frontman who hasn't had an original thought ever.

Will you be happy if Gerrard wins nothing because none of the other managers did.??

Southgate now saying publicly that he has to prove himself for the World Cup is for a start disingenuous and secondly doesn’t exactly take pressure of the lad. Then again he’s always been a disingenuous, weak and cowardly manager, so no surprise there.

Absolutely terrible manager. England will not win anything with him as the boss.

You know me, people can post what they like but if I don’t agree I will tell that person 400 times repetitively where they are wrong 😉😂

If they don't get it the first time, the next 399 are just a waste of your time.

Modern football, where you are only as good as your last game. I hate what the sport has become.

That is the beauty of sports, you can't get buy on a reputation !! You need to bring it on a regular basis !!

Borja to me is exactly the type of forward we need for next season, he's doing what Ollie was doing for most of last season. If Southampton haven't got a fixed price agreed with Chelsea I'd be straight in with a bid end of the season.

    They can have Ings back.

Lots of clubs will be in for Broja but the Chelsea situation could make deals difficult... I don't think they want Ings back....

  14. 2 hours ago, nick76 said:

Same could be said of Ings.  He was being touted to go to much bigger teams than us before we snapped him up.  Yes a few years older than Ollie but his finishing skills could be fully utilised in the right system and he’s shown in the past some quality goals he’s scored past us.

Yes I agree but Ings just doesn't seem to fit in at Villa & I don't think he is a Gerrard type player either.

We don’t know that. There was a lot of talk about him wanting a defensive midfielder but couldn’t land his targets. In the summer I expect him too.

The January window is  a very difficult one, hard to get every player you want.

    That's some weak spot.

Sure he needs time. But does he need time to organise a squad sufficiently to beat Watford at home ?

There are no easy games in the Premier & as the season progresses relegation zone teams will get tougher & tougher to beat. I bet on football on a daily basis & judging a team by position is the road to ruin !

I do agree that Gerrard needs to organize the team better & definitely do a better job on his subs.

  17. The Premier League is in my mind the toughest league in the world. Managers don't walk in to the Premier & boss it from the gitgo very often. Gerrard will need some time & a couple of windows to make his mark or fail if that is the case.  Give him a chance & see what he can do. !!

For me his weak spot is his subs, he will need to improve on that quickly but I do see the makings of a top man in him !!

  18. The wheels would have to fall off completely for Villa to be in the relegation scrap & I really can't see that happening. The team has lots of talent & once SG gets them gets them organized they will be fine. There is a steep learning curve ahead of Stevie G because this league is 100 time tougher than the Scottish Premier. He will need to get his subs spot on in the future but I think he is smart enough to adapt.

  19. I really don't understand what has happened to Ollie, he was one of my favourite players last year. I'll be honest, I thought he was the type of player Leicester should be looking at. Makes great diagonal runs and was scoring goals !  For some reason he just isn't the same player this season. Did Villa signing Ings shake his confidence?

  20. I was very surprised when Villa went for Ings & even more surprised when he went to Villa. I just didn't think they were a match for each other.

Watkins is one of my favourite players but seems to have lost his scoring touch. I think he is much better suited to the SG style of play

Thought he just ran past the keeper and they got in each others way. Keeper threw himself to the ground.

    Could be mistaken though.

He interferred with the keeper & that will be a yellow all day long. I don't think it was intentional but he just got himself in a poor position. As soon as you catch the keeper with an elbow its usually gonna go bad.
