They really don't look very good. Beat a Torino side that were still in preseason, haven't won a league game. Squad is going to be far too small this season.

You're right, we're not at our best yet, and were below par against Burnley, yet we've won five from five European games and are undefeated in the league.

    I'll take that.

But you're not really good at dictating games are you?

Didn't you lot lose to Huddersfield?

Well that's in the eye of the beholder.  You can choose any individual game to support a case, I'm told we dominated Spurs second half at Wembley when we scored three at their place.

We can keep the ball well, and break down teams, take a look at our second goal vs Sheffield United in the Championship at home and our first (or second, not sure) vs Cardiff at home last season for examples of the kinds of goals I think you (and we all) find attractive.

It's true that Nuno does like his teams to be comfortable and 'in control' without the ball, and I believe it's a mistake to just look at possession stats to decide that a team has dominated a game.

Not saying there's anything wrong with you're play style, it's just not my cup of tea.

I prefer to watch teams that dictates games.

We played pretty much the same system in the championship and dictated most games, and plenty of games last season in the premier league too.

As @TRO has suggested, it really boils down to the ability of the opposition, and that partly is the strength of the system we play, it allows us to push up and dominate the ball against weaker teams, and sit back looking for chances against the stronger teams.

For example, in pre season we played Newcastle United and dominated the ball from memory, in the next game we played the same system against Man City and er, didn't.

I don't think its jealousy, whilst the sun is shining on their ass they're going to enjoy themselves, the problem for them is we are the only ones who bite back at them, no one else cares

the size and success debate is pure bravado trying to wind us up and will be followed by an ensuing disillusionment as to what the PL is all about now they've hit their ceiling

Reading Redcafe today we certainly seem to have upset the raggers a little.

    30 % possession against Leicester.

Free flowing football my a**. They are a park the bus team with some incredible counter attacking players up front.

I can see them struggling hard against teams like Burnley and Newcastle.

The reason why they are obsessed and desperate to see us fail is because of jealousy. They know deep down we are the bigger club with better facilities, better stadium and a bigger fanbase.

Wolves are effective with the possetion they have, no one from Wolves pretends to be 2010 Barca.  We try to control the game with out the ball and we limit the opposition to very few chances (we've conceeded one goal in seven games now I think) and make the most of the chances that come our way.

Saying we'll struggle against teams that sit back is no great insight, we did all season last year (although we had 30 shots at home against Burnley).

I can't speak for all fans, but I don't feel jealous of (or obssessed with, hate that term, it's a form of self flattery) Villa.  You're generally a decent bunch who have had success now and then, but I think you generally underachieve as a club.

I have no hatred towards Wolves tbh. It might sound strange but we've had to put up with the north west clubs battling for honours and also London teams and as I said to my Wolves supporting boss that it' would actually be good if the two of us went and represented the Midlands and started challenging for honours every season.

    Absolutely right mate.

Difficult to prove anything but mysteriously since the Wolves association with Mendes they've been managing to get good players for about a third of their actual value in an era when most clubs are playing more than players are worth to get them.

    You think he’s worth £48m?!

Can't see any of them breaking the top 6, but Everton, Leicester and Wolves are definitely the outstanding group of the best of the rest.

With the points in the premier league migrating north up he table for some time it’s just good to see any clubs get close. Hope someone does make it this year, whoever it is.

still happy with my 6th-11th sort of area prediction for Wolves again

That's not really a prediction mate, probably 80% of people would expect that finish for Wolves, the difference between 11th and 6th is about as great as 20th to 10th.

Haha some proper weirdos on that Mol Mix thread (one in particular).

So insular, don't want to discuss with or engage with anyone but their own.  Football forum version of a Brexit voter.

Whatever you do, never go into the politics sub forum. Abandon all hope thee who enter

Frimpong injury was the key (and possibly to your season). Had a stormer first half that day and then got injured. We then switched to three centrally for the second half (think we'd started with 4 forwards for some reason) and took control.

Good memory! Yes he was playing really well and looked a star for a while. That game he played a blinder and it was a real shame for him.

I seem to remember david Davis coming on for him and doing ok. Our feelings for him changed pretty sharpish!

I read other clubs forums from time to time for whatever reason. Lately I’ve been reading the Villa thread on the wolves forum. I get the stick we are getting, and I get the arrogance from wolves fans. After all it’s the first time in how many decades where they are infront of us. What I don’t get is that there is a villa fan posting on there, and he’s getting dogs abuse. He seems a non problematic poster, so **** knows why he’s getting the abuse he’s getting. It’s pretty embarrassing on their part tbf. Maybe some of their posters feel a bit rattled? Either way, the wolves fans that post regularly on here seem sound, and they are always welcome. It would be foolish to think we would finish above them, but I’m confident we have spent well and will stay up without too much worry.

It is really bad, but it’s mainly from a handful of posters. I’ve clicked ‘like’ on loads of that Villa fan’s posts.

I don’t mind Wolves or their fans that much. It’s the locals that support Liverpool, Man U etc that have all of a sudden also become big wolves fans also that really get my goat.

    Yeah they can **** off.

Genuinely one of the finest Villa strikes I've seen.  Everything about it was beautiful, Wolves fans with a bit of booing, dropping ball hit as clean as you like and an amazing sound hitting the net.  Then no celebration, but a smirk with Dunne(?) or something.  :D

There may have been a bit of booing as at that point there was a suggestion that he'd turned a loan to us down, although Wolves never made an approach apparently.

He always got an amazing reception from us before then, we used to sing his name as he scored hat tricks against us.

That Henry kick was right in front of me. Complete madness in a game that important.

Yeah, good player for us, cost about 250k but he had that in him.

Nothing really against Wolves, I know a few and they're fine to talk football with.

Remember getting on the train after the 3-2 Robbie Keane game at their place, and again their fans were fine. If that was small heath or them other lot, it would've been a bit of an uncomfortable train journey.

Ah that was a great game!  I was in the South Bank.  Kitely scored a great goal to put us 2-1 up then Keane scored two worldies.

Think we'd have got a draw if we had kept 11 men on the pitch.

And you seem sound, so definitely nothing directed personally.

Cheers chap, I feel the same about Villa Talk generally.  You definitely treat me better on here than Villa Fans get treated on Molineux Mix, so there's probably something in it unfortunately.

I hate games against the Albion, the venom is something else, it's nothing like this with Villa.

I generally don't mind any proper football fans, it's the fans of United and Liverpool mainly that I don't like, mainly because they think their support of their clubs is the same as our support for Wolves or Villa even thought they come from Surrey or something.

It always seemed like we had a friendly rivalry between two big clubs and we had shared common enemies

I don't want to go over it again, because I agree with this bit, and the majority of Wolves fans I believe feel the same.

Twitter is a shithole and Villa fans come across in a similar way.  I don't treat anyone on there as a reflection of the wider fanbases.

He didn't learn how to play football at Barca and, with no offence intended, you're not Barca. He is what he is at this point. He's a risk to tactical stability at absolute best, that's without him wasting the ball every time he gets it.

You might be right, we’ll see, as I say, I’ve seen improvement over the last 12 months.

the MON model that arsene wenger went on to adopt at arsenal

play a weaker team in the European games so you can focus on qualifying for European games

    Exactly!

I guess there's a certain logic to it, if you can be seen to be in Europe every year it raises your stature as a club and makes it easier to attract players, but bloody hell it's depressing.

its a mental thing as much as anything, a performance drop off because they know they can get away with it

the media will allow some dickie results in the sunday games (and maybe the game before if they declare it a "big" European game), they'll just shrug and say "they played EL on Thursday is what it is" even though seemingly no other teams in European leagues suffer from the same hangover and like you say the championship has a similar Wednesday - Saturday - Wednesday game set up, im not sure a team of internationals (and wolves fans do like to tell us how they have so many Portuguese champions in their squad ;) ) can even use travelling around eastern Europe for Thursday nights as an excuse, they know tournament football, none of this is anything new

Absolutely agree.  It's a nice problem to have, and what are you gonna do?  Just sack off Europe?  It could well be the pinnicle for us so you have to embrace it, better to strive than to just attempt to hang on to Premier League status.

I really don't think we'll be in danger of having a season like Burnley last year, I would be surprised to see us finish lower than 11th next season, but you never know.

I do remember Villa under MoN sacrificing Europe for the league, (away to Hamburg you played the kids and lost 3-0 I think?) but at the time you were looking up the league rather than worrying about relegation so that's fair enough.

It'll happen every now and then, especially against very poor sides. But he's simply an incredibly poor footballer, even the worst Premier League sides will generally find it easy to mark him out of a game.

Maybe.  I'm not his biggest fan, but he does have ability and he's showing signs of improvement, and shows a real desire to want to learn.  I think with a full preseason under Nuno he could be a useful player.

Even last season in the Premier League we saw teams put two or three men on him opening up space for others.

Could go either way, but he's trying and that's all you can ask I guess.  I'd still play Doherty over him.
