Smith the only manager nominated for both September and October PL Manager Of The Month awards.

Wins over the current top 2 in the league in October. Nobody with a 100% record so he's in with a shout IMO

I just want to see dean be able to switch and change things when its needed, rather than just traore for trez with 15 mins left

I think that will come with time in the PL. We currently have next to no depth to make changes with, but with a few more windows we should have 15+ quality players all capable of making a difference in games.

This is obviously entirely dependent on us recruiting well but I've got faith in our new setup as far as this goes.

I would say his lack of fitness was the reason he got injured. Just my opinion.

I agree that it was a contributing factor. I think the lack of game time he's had over the last 6 months due to Ligue 1 cutting last season short is the main reason for his lack of fitness, not ideal but in the context of the full length of his contract it shouldn't be a big issue.

He'll be 100% up to speed by December and then hopefully show us what he's made of.

I've liked what he's shown in short bursts so far tbh.

  4. Seems like all is not rosy at Brighton

Brighton striker Neal Maupay dropped against Tottenham due to attitude problems

There are fears within Graham Potter's squad that Maupay has got carried away with his own success

Neal Maupay was dropped from the Brighton squad in an attempt to bring the club’s striker back down to earth.

Brighton manager Graham Potter surprisingly left Brighton out of his matchday squad for the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, even though it meant he did not field an out-and-out striker.

Potter dodged questions over Maupay’s absence, claiming it was for ‘tactical reasons’ without going into any detail.

But it was understood that the move was to remind Maupay that no one player is more important than the team.

There were fears within the Brighton squad that Maupay was becoming carried away with his own success, having scored 10 goals last season and already netted four times this term.

The Frenchman is known to be a strong character and there have been unconfirmed suggestions that he had fallen out with at least one team-mate in training.

Rather than let the situation fester, it appears Potter decided to try to nip it in the bud before it threatened to get out of hand.

He will no doubt now hope that Maupay responds well to being dropped and puts himself back in contention for Brighton’s next game against Burnley on Friday night.

The Burnley game looks to be an important one for Potter’s side, who, despite playing well at Tottenham, have lost three of their last five Premier League games without winning.

Brighton have five points, four more than Burnley, who are yet to win in the League this season.

Tariq Lamptey has been the standout performer for Brighton this season, with reports emerging from Spain that Atletico Madrid have taken an interest in the right wing-back.

Bayern Munich have also been linked with a move for Lamptey who moved to Brighton from Chelsea in January for a bargain £3million price.

With all the talk this summer of the importance of signing the right characters, it looks like we might have really dodged a bullet with Maupay based on this.

How the season is going it wouldn't surprise me to see them challenging for the top 6.

How the season is going? 10 points from 7 played and just one win in their last four doesn't really scream top 6 form to me.

They're a decent side but I think you might've had too much of the media's Bielsa ball sweat flavoured kool aid.

Apparently Brighton are 6th in the league when it comes to the expected goals stat. Doesn't really matter much as they are not picking up points.

Fwiw we are 10th, Manure 17th and West Brom 20th

Understat have us 9th for total xG but we're 4th for xG/game.

Brighton are doing very well by every xG metric though, they're 4th in the xPTS table. Potter is the reverse Steve Bruce in terms of luck it seems.

I would agree with that. Aside from that dribble and one or two bright spots, I don't think he did much. Certainly far below the level of his previous games.

So apart from having a shot half cross the line before it got cleared and carrying the ball from the edge of his own box to their 6 yard box and getting their starting DM in so much trouble he had to be subbed after 20 minutes what did the Romans ever do for us?

Leicester nullified Grealish last season in the 4-0, he was unlucky not to score/assist against Leeds.

I'd even argue it was clear after 30 minutes that we needed to tactically change things a bit,

Disagree, I think we were doing okay in the opening half hour. For the first 20 minutes we were overwhelming Struijk to the point he was very lucky not to be sent off, then after he got subbed Grealish had the one cleared off the line that was close enough for Hawkeye to take a look.

That was by far the best chance either side had up until then, it certainly wasn't clear we needed to change anything.

Lee Sharpe, hilarious on talk sport this morning. When asked for his thoughts on the game, he said, as a boyhood Villa fan, I would like to see Villa take three points and go top and hopefully Leeds take a point. You gotta love him.

Interesting discussion as some people do take stats as gospel

They basically made two points and I agree with both. Firstly, that stats unrelated to goals should be viewed in the context of trends and even then they aren't that useful. The example they used was Vardy being labelled as having a bad game against WHU because he didn't have many touches but when viewed in the context of his average touches it was not noticeably different than his touch numbers the previous week when he scored 3.

The second was that xA is a better measure of creativity than actual assist numbers. This should be obvious but I've never seen it mentioned on any live coverage.

According to the Athletic we are paying all of his £110k per week.  Doesn't seem to have upset Grealish at the moment.

Accoring to Percy, Grealish's new contract puts him on £140k per week IIRC so there's no danger he'll be annoyed we're paying Barkley ~25% less.

I also think he's so unlucky that the only prem goal he is ever going to score for us was ruled out by a terrible ref who didn't know what he was doing.

Oh shit I didn't even think about that, that has got to hurt him.
