I was disappointed with his after match, reaction........The team has done great all season, but that wasn't the game, to say he was proud of them......maybe he should have kept that for the dressing room, if he wants to motivate them......The watching public are no fools.

Totally agree and posted as such last night. I found it a very weak reaction to yet another insipid performance.

Luiz, Diaby, Kamara, and both FBs needed rockets up their arses rather than praise.

How many times, do we do that, to the opposition?.... we cannot go on being wussy, because it affects the good parts of our game.....McGinn is the only one showing any signs of physical engagement, that cannot continue, without consequences. It has been allowed to continue for a while now, and the hole in the sock gets bigger.....a stitch in time saves nine.....we need to stop this, getting bullied so easily.

I’ve been deriding the high line since pre-season Tro. It stands to reason that any decent team with a nippy forward line will break it down with the right ball over the top and runners from deep. Newcastle have taken advantage 3 times now including pre-season while  most recent opposition have worked it out how to play against Villa. All too predictable and no change in tactics from the manager!

I will also state again that much of Watkin’s early season threat has been nullified by Emery restricting him to a box player. Very few runs into the channels now to stretch teams so Villa are more reliant on trying to break teams down through the middle. This has also been noted by Premiership teams and those Villa have faced in the cups.

With Villa’s wingers not consistently firing either the opposition are setting up with a low block then destroying Villa’s high line on the break.

We've all seen this repeated in recent games. To date Emery seemingly has no plan B and struggles tactically when change is needed.

Alarmingly, we’ve now been made aware that apart from Rogers there will be no further signings this window.

I fear for Villa now, I really do as the present squad is not strong enough to sustain a push for CL placement and European games too.

Villa will do well to secure 6th-8th!

I don’t think he’s the kind of coach that publicly throws players under the bus.

in the dressing room though I suspect he will have put a rocket up them

Really not sure about that at all if you consider all recent performances have been very flat.

  4. Very disappointed with Emery’s post match interview.

Proud of the players and 43 points again. Why not tell it like it was and bloody well get into the players for that performance?

The players need shaken up and a massive boot up the arse for the drop in performance levels over the last five games instead of being complimentary.

Diaby should not start again until end of season then shipped out. Disgusting lack of effort!

  5. Yet another poor, one dimensional performance from Villa. Not one player broke sweat except for a very good cameo from Bailey.

Villa’s midfield really starting to worry me as the players in there are too similar without pace to run beyond the forward.

As someone else said 50m bid for Luiz in the summer Villa should bite their hand of. McGinn is the only creative spark there but he also lacks real pace and isn’t a playmaker.

Stated at start of Jan window Villa needed 3 quality players to push on for a CL placement. Nothing has come in other than a championship player.

Presently Villa will struggle for 6th with Emery’s high line and the owner’s lack of investment this window.

Palace have now agreed a deal for Blackburn midfielder Adam Wharton, £18m potentially £22m with add-ons

That’s a really good signing by Palace. Good player who will only get better.

Hate to say it... I think Greenwood might...

Yeah forgot about him as he’s on loan. Actually posted that Villa should go in for him on loan at the time but was slated for it on here.😂

However, he would be the only one from Man U I’d take but of course he comes with a multitude of baggage!

I quite like this January transfer window. Of course, the FFP thing solidifies the advantage of the established big clubs with their massive and talented squads, but there’s something refreshing about thinking about the players clubs already have or gambles like Rogers. And we know that Unai and his team can improve players perhaps better than anyone in the league.

So if I’m catching you right you feel FFP is advantageous for the bigger clubs?

Would you prefer the Man City’s, Newcastle’s and Chelsea’s with their affluent owners to buy up all the good players available while those they can’t use farmed out on loan?

I’ve noted that since the introduction of FFP more teams are closing on the top four because the Sky 4 can no longer purchase all available talent!

Rogers is being purchased imo to push the wide men already at the club into better performances. Let’s face it neither Diaby, Bailey or Zaniolo have been great recently so Rogers will be chomping at the bit to take one of their places.

  9. His first touch hasn’t really improved under Smith or indeed Emery which is alarming.

I also still feel Emery tying him down to be in and around the box more doesn’t really benefit the team or the player.

Watkins previously made a lot of runs in behind teams on the flanks which gave Villa’s midfielders more to hit. Now he is too easily marked being a lot more static through the middle.

This has certainly contributed to Villa’s lack of goals recently imo.

Barely kicked a ball in 2 years and before that was injury prone for another 2.

He'll be well off and do nothing and his body will probably go into shock and break down

    Doubt it.

Would be a good move for everyone, as long as we can find a replacement.  Hopefully Unai has a gem like Moreno up his sleeve.  It doesn't look like we are in for Phillips anyway.

    Should be.
