  1. Stated in the pre-match thread that I felt the game today would come down to whether Villa had the mentality to win a 6 pointer as time and time again they had bottled it.

Further stated that I didn’t think so and Spurs would win comfortably!

Unfortunately prediction came through as it was a complete bottle job by the Villa players who to a man were awful and McGinn’s red was fully warranted!

Villa have a soft underbelly which was exposed yet again by a top team who totally outclassed Villa from minute one of the game.

I also expressed my opinion earlier this season on here that Villa wouldn’t qualify for the Champions League as I didn’t think they did enough in the January transfer market to achieve that.

Failure to strengthen properly in January and having to play the same players in Europe plus the league is now biting Villa in the arse.

If you couple that with a soft underbelly you get what you see now over recent performances.

It might also culminate in defeat against Ajax at home on Thursday?

That’s not a red.  He made a play for the ball and was late.   No studs showing.   Should be a yellow.

What a ridiculous post. Played the man not the ball. A straight red all day long!!

  3. All about temperament today. Spurs are a very good side but Villa need to believe they can beat them. Villa never seem to do well in 6 pointer games due to pressure but sooner or later that has got to change. However, I don’t think that will be today with Spurs comfortable winners.

  4. Well that was crap. Not one Villa player stood out for me. Actually could have been caught out again playing in second gear late on.

Ajax were there for the taking tonight but Villa were happy with a 0-0. I just hope it doesn’t come back to bite Villa in the arse next week?

Normally I don’t comment much on the ref but he was very poor. Konsa’s first yellow wasn’t while the second probably was. Unlucky to be sent off.

  5. When are Villa going to learn?

You simply cannot switch off as Villa did in the 2nd half on a 2 goal lead and it isn’t the first time this has happened this season. Learned nothing from the Man U defeat!

Instead of going for the third killer goal Villa handed the initiative to Luton.

Kudo’s to Emery for changing almost half the team including subbing the early substitute when he did as it simply wasn’t good enough.

In the end a most welcome three points which means it’s squeaky bum time for Utd in the Manchester Derby tomorrow.

Bent saying Phillips well off the pace on Talkshite. Is @striker going to phone in and set him straight?

Just wondering would you show the same impatience if he’d signed for Villa?

Man Utd and Arsenal? Can’t see him leaving to be honest, especially having signed the new contract.

Can’t see Man U being interested. Their young forward line is starting to fire.

Maybe Arsenal but I think they’ll sign Toney in the summer.

We dominated the game - I can only imagine what would have happened if he'd got it right. It was one of our better performances of the season, tactically we were a step ahead of them, the players were motivated, we showed quality, controlled the ball and the game, and then didn't finish our chances - I'm fairly sure Emery didn't instruct them to finish badly, but if he did, then I guess you're probably right.

I think the substitution of Bailey is a difficult one - he rarely plays for ninety minutes and he's rarely good for more than 45 minutes - it's why he's often so good as an impact sub, as I seem to recall you saying in his thread (and I completely agree) - he was clearly tired, and he'd clearly passed the point in games where he's usually at his best...BUT, he was still looking a threat and still having an impact - so I think taking him off is a questionable decision - I think it's also slightly muddied by Emery's habit of making non-linear substitutions to create tactical imbalances - he really replaced Bailey with Diaby and Kamara with Tielemans, but by bringing the players on in the opposite order, he creates five minutes of confusion that he tries to capitalise on. It's difficult, Bailey was still an obvious threat and bringing him off will always open up criticism. The idea that he did so because he was settling for the draw though is somewhat peculiar - we continued to create chances after the substitution and continued to dominate, both before and after McTominay's sucker punch.

On another day we win that 4-1 - tactically and in terms of performance, we were spot on - we just need a bit more composure and a bit more luck in front of goal.

Yes I did say Bailey is better as an impact sub and will stick to that although he was still creating a lot of problems for Man U. I just felt due to those problems Man U we’re glad to see him hooked.

Agree that Villa were the better team but sadly less clinical in front of goal. I would have started Iroegbunam and Roger’s just to freshen things up a little to add more pace and physicality but understand this may not have been the game to do that.

Since Kamara also joins the injury list Tim should play more even if Emery wants to change it a little. I’d also like to see Rogers played against Fulham. Could be the ideal game to bring both in and give someone a rest?

I read your posts and sometimes think you’re trolling us. Maybe it’s the fact you were a visiting supporter for so long.

Thanks for reading my posts. Mucho appreciate! I can absolutely assure you I post my honest opinion and wouldn’t troll anyone. What would be the point in that. I support both Villa & Everton. More Villa now but still follow both teams.
