  1. Newcastle fans were booing yesterday after the very good run their team has been on. Just imagine the reaction from the Geordie fans if their team had been on the same run as the Villa.

Desperately want to see Villa turn over Newcastle and get the team going in an upward trajectory while having a wee quiet snigger at the abuse the Newcastle fans will surely dish out towards their team. :)

The difference is that we are drawing but not losing. Only 1 goal scored away from home but 2 clean sheets in 4 games. On the flip side we have scored 7 goals in 4 home games but have won only one game. It is a mixed bag- just one win will make it look a lot better.

Missing the point that the Villa are playing in a lower division and against inferior teams compared to last season so should be fairing better.

Until there is more quality in the Villa midfield then I fear the struggle will continue.

the defence really looks a different class when remove Stones for WIlliams. not a surprise really

Most of the other half of my family were glad to see Stones go. Thought he made too many mistakes defensively. Everton also have one or two young CBs coming through who are potentially every bit as good as Stones.

Everton are better this season and have toughened up the spine of the team with the signings of Williams and Gana. Bolasie adds more pace which was needed. Everton will surprise a few this season and will finish top 7 barring serious injuries.

  4. Losing Amavi last season was a major blow as it took Villa's only real wide attacking intent out of the team.

Losing De Laet, while disappointing and infuriating, may not have the same affect as Amavi is available now and the manager can use Bacuna as a decent replacement until  January.

If there was another LB available and unattached to a club could Villa sign him now?

  5. Didn't see last nights game but reading forums and this morning's reports there seems to be an inbalance to the the team.

A two man midfield isn't working when the defence comes under the cosh. Not enough physicality there and I'm not sure Jedinak is the answer either with Tish.

It should have been obvious to a blind man that when Gana was sold the villa needed a  direct replacement. It's not ideal to sign a midfielder on his last contract or one that has previously been injury prone and expect them to form a reliable engine to the rest of the team. At the moment Villa seem to be running on a half filled tank of petrol and when that is almost used up there's nothing left in the battery to see the car home.

Having watched the Villa a few times this season I am unimpressed with Elphick. Very slow and has a mistake in him. If you put that together with a poor midfield then Villa really have a soft centre which is being exposed. Not sure it's anything to do with a weak mentality.

Don't think Di Matteo has got the balance right in his signings. Could have forsaken McCormack for a fit box to box physical midfielder. By all accounts there was a young lad playing for Brenford last night who ran the show and that's exactly what Villa are missing at the moment. Must do better or Di Matteo will soon be out of a job.

Shuts up people who assumed all of our players were terrible last season as well. It was not necessarily a lack of ability with a few players.

More a succession of poor managers maybe?

In Di Mateo and Clarke the Villa have the best set up managerial wise since O'Neil and if given time I would expect that partnership with the owner's wealth and exuberance to see Villa back in the top half of the Premiership next season or certainly the season beyond that.

  7. Gana has been Everton's best player this season so far and looks a steal at 7m. Given license to play further forward by Koeman and showing he has a good pass on him.

Under Di Mateo probably would have been a much better player for the Villa.

  8. Not sure people are saying that De Mateo should be sacked yet. What they are saying is that results cannot continue like this for Villa and if they do then the manager will come under increasing pressure.

No harm in saying that. I don't think anyone felt Villa would be looking downward after six games. Results so far haven't been good enough and that's a fact but performances have in general been excellent without getting the points those performances deserve.

In the games I've seen, De Mateo has the Villa playing a brand of football I haven't seen Villa play in a very long time. He needs and the team needs more time to turn those displays into the wins that they deserve but they will need to come soon as there is already a gap developing and that may be insurmountable after the 15 game stage.

  9. Thought Villa played well in the first half. Very tidy on the ball but just lacking that little bit of luck to kick start the team.

McCormack should have scored though and still looks off the pace to me. Needs more games.

Grealish probably Villa's best player in the first half but Ayew continues to annoy me. Too greedy and should be more aware of players around him. If he is going for glory then make sure and hit the target. Too many shots from him end up in row Z.

Forest there for the taking as they have been poor. Hopefully no repetition of previous second half performances and Villa go on to win this.

  10. Not sure I would want to see him in a Villa shirt again after these comments.

I could have stayed in the Premier League… but I did not want to relive a season in the bottom of the rankings.

“What I wanted was to find fun playing and the taste of victory. Saint Etienne offers me the challenge.”

so over-reaction of the week goes to me then. :) All good. I was tired. The moral of my story is a variation on the don't drink and text rule I suppose, don't drive a band on a 300 mile round trip to portmeirion over the Welsh mountains to play a festival and text. Support who you want, it's a free country, ish.

    Weirdo ;)

Finally we agree on something. Yes i'm a weirdo. :P

Lets hope we don't have to ask you to drive Kodija back to Bristol. Think you will be safe enough.

If a team with a first 11 assembled for over £70m finishes 10th in The Championship, then heads will roll and I might just about give up on football forever.

Can't see Xia being happy with a mid table finish for the Villa. Not after spending that kind of money. De Mateo can use the turnover of players to excuse iffy results for the first 10-15 games but after that if Villa don't at least look like making the play offs then I can't see De Mateo holding onto his job.

Also not unheard of to be able to deliver that information without the nonsensical guesswork at the start though is it really? Jump to random conclusions much? Anyway welcome to VT and thanks for introducing yourself in such a friendly way. ;)

Anyway while we're on the topic of people who have 2 teams in the Kodjia thread, @JamesBCFC ;) Where does the "Jimmy" thing come from?

No, no, no. Not trying to get at you at all although I can see how it could be interpreted so sorry for that. I just follow two teams which is all it is.

Can't wait to see Kodjia play. It could be that JamesBCFC might have to admit that Kodjia was a steal by the end of the season. :)

Fair enough mate, I have respect for Everton and admire them as a club. They're a traditional club similar to Villa. There are other teams I like to see do well, but none come close to the love I feel for my one and only club. I was just interested to hear how that works.

We (Villa) are obviously in a different league now, which makes dual support easier, but what did you do when we played Everton? Did you pick a side or hope it's a draw?

Really mate I stayed pretty neutral. It was probably a win win for me and loved the games between Everton and Villa when Martin was in charge of Villa. Some great football. I think those games will return to Villa next season as Villa will be promoted.

It's not unheard of, but can I ask how you came to support two teams? I'm not having a go at all, just interested in how it comes about. For me I can't imagine ever supporting another team.

I know your not having a go and it's a fair question. Member of a large family split between Villa and Everton. I decided to take an interest in both teams to be neutral which can have its own problems. May be better that I say Villa instead of us to stop any further confusion on here?

  16. 14 hours ago, VILLAMARV said:

You have me all kinds of confused to be fair. When did Everton buy Kodjia?

You are easily confused then. I follow both Everton and Villa. Not unheard of to support two teams in one or separate leagues.

Just seen the goal. Looking forward to see him play.

  17. Would have preferred Rhodes as I feel he would be more clinical in front of goal not needing as many chances to score but hopefully our coaches can work on the rough edges that Kodjia has to reveal a diamond.

  18. There's a fine line between arrogance and expectation.

Some might say that expecting Villa to go straight back up again due to the historic nature of the club is being arrogant. Other teams like Leeds who also have a history of being a big club have stayed in the Championship but I don't think Leeds have ever really shown the financial muscle that Villa have this window. So my expectation is that Villa being one of the two teams I follow should be in the mix come the end of the season.

Should Villa not be, then I don't know if Xia will accept that. I suppose RDM's honeymoon period will be foreshortened now considering the money spent.

  19. My name is Rowland. Although I generally follow Everton I have also taken a keen interest in Villa for many years especially when both teams have played each other. Looking to sign up to a Villa forum to put forward my opinion on all thing's Villa and have chosen this one after reading it for a few years. My favourite Villa player is Dion Dublin who is selling houses now on tv. Utv.
