  1. I’ve just been reading Richard Keys’ blog slating Gerrard for the Mings decision and saying that there’s trouble in the dressing room, and Stevie has made a problem for himself.

I've never been more convinced that everything will be alright and that Mings and Gerrard are best buddies.

I'm not Gerrard out yet but I remain thoroughly unimpressed.

Apart from attracting a couple of signings we arguably couldn't have made without him, I'm not sure he's done anything good here.

He needs a massive upward turn and he needs it quick

    My sentiments also.

what game have you seen where Tyrone has singlehandedly driven us forward to try and force something?

Off the top of my head...

Fulham second half of 20/21 season, after the admittedly ballsed up for their goal. Played a 1-2 with Targett and crossed for Trezegeut to score.

Against Brighton, chased a lost cause and stopped the ball going out for a throw-in and ended up scoring himself.

Against United at home last season, where we were 2-0 down. He drives upfield played a pass and went running on to create space. We score and go on to draw 2-2. He actually played the ball out of defence to start the move for the second, but that would be pushing it a bit as there was a lot to do after his pass.

I actually expected Luiz to start, with all the positive noises coming out.

I love JJ but he's not been at his best and he's still young, he doesn't need to always be starting.

Thing is as some say, SG really does seem to have his favourites and will stick to then.

Seems he prefers midfielders which potentially " remind him of himself " without realising that running around aside they are nowhere near as good so won't have the same effect. Lol

He definitely seems to have this problem, but it is apparent that he forgets his best seasons and best performances came with Hamann/Xabi Alonso/Mascherano/Lucas Leiva, quite often two of these, providing the structure for him to run about the place like a lunatic.

Furthermore, some of his worst performances were when the midfield didn't have this structure or Gerrard was meant to be part of this structure. Take the 2005 CL final. First half Gerrard is playing CM with Alonso, runs about like a headless chicken, leaving oceans of space for Kaka (then World player of the year?) to do what Kaka does best. HT 3-0 to Milan. Second half Hamann comes on, sits alongside Alonso, and Gerrard continues running around but the structure is there to allow him to do this. We all know what happened in the end. Basically Gerrard's best and worst performance in one match.

HE's a very good player, will reiterate again that he needs help.

He should actually be the one doing the Luiz role, and we need a version of Nakamba who is just as good beside him.

Sitting on the bench looking at inferior midfilelders (not Kamara) ahead of him?

Put Luiz beside him and watch the midfield magically improve. Two very intelligent and technicallly gifted players capable of keeping the ball in tight spaces, who can also nip in and rob opponents of possession as well as read the game. Ramsey (young, still time to learn) and McGinn are awful at knowing where to position themselves and proactively noticing danger.

  6. Liked what I saw on Saturday to be honest. Streets ahead of the majority of last season where injuries seemed to be playing havoc with him (either physically or mentally - maybe both). He seems to trust his body more than last season. Still a bit to go to make the impact that I think he is capable of, but the signs are promising, and I'm sure that it will come with more playing time.

Everytime Iv'e seen him play he's been as good as we have got.

True, it’s very weird. He’s always been quite good, and if you consider that’s always been with very little match time prior to these appearances on top of that. It’s all very strange.

This goes under the radar. 2005 Champions League Final he was the reason they were 3 down as he left centre midfield exposed until Rafa moved him out of midfield at half time

He only figured it out late in his career after he couldn’t run anymore.

He was one of the most tenaciously gifted players of his generation, he has drive, determination and perseverance, I have no doubt.......but its clear, its not finding its way in to our play......thats the confusing thing that most like me who support him ( for now) are experiencing.

If we’re going to assume that Steven Gerrard the player reflects Steven Gerrard the manager, then surely we should focus on the other aspects of Steven Gerrard as a player which are more relevant to modern day team management, such as tactical understanding. He was an utter disaster at this as a player. Benitez is quoted as saying as much, and it’s really showing.

We’ll never know but I do find it funny the same people that said Mings wasn’t good enough for us are now upset he didn’t start.

I would like to say that IMO Mings is good enough for us and should be starting.

If gerrard goes I think purslow will too .

I don't think so. From my very limited knowledge of the goings on at the club, the background stuff seems to be going well. It will be a black mark though if we have to get rid of Gerrard.

  12. This is striking me as all very Frank Lampard ability-wise. Not surprising that they're not very good as managers as the two of them couldn't figure out how to play together for 10 years with England.
