Bailey or the left side DM should've been picking up the fullback for the first goal.  One of the DM'S should also have been closing down Rice for the second.

Targett has been poor with the ball, so has Mcginn. Konsa shows no ambition when trying to play out.

We can't pass out from the back. It's a massive weakness that was apparent last season. Hitting long balls against West Ham is pointless.

This is so true. Mings inevitably resorts to hoofing it.

If the game had ended at half time, I would be in here strongly agreeing with the brilliant defeat/play-like-that-and-we'll-win-more-than-we-lose takes, but we were poor second half, didn't create many clear-cut chances.

I do agree it was a very good first half performance, but before people get too excited, it's worth remembering we won't be playing a guy who's never kicked a ball in English football every week. Once he went off, our main avenue for building attacks was gone, and we really didn't have too many other ideas IMO.

We started the second-half very positively and were carrying on as in first half. The Mings error knocked the stuffing out of us. More psychological than anything to do with ability. We were very good today and will get better. Chin up!

A lot of positives to take from this game. Probably our best performance of the season. It says something when you're disappointed to be losing away to Chelsea. You don't play them away every week. This team of ours with its best players available for selection will be a good side.

Indeed. Lots of positives to take from the game despite the result.

  4. Thought the back four were immense today, Mings and Cash particularly so. Love the vocals from Mings and Emi too, keeping everyone focused.  Not our best performance but an improvement on mid-week and a great way to banish that defeat. Work rate was top notch . Thought Barkley did well at start of second half and was a threat going forward but did fade after that. Doesn't look fully fit to me.
