I said from the start this was an odd move sending him there. He's not a world beater (and in fact he has put in some poor performances for us this season), but when things are going well for him he's a very dependable, solid FB. This is particularly the case when he someone very good playing in front of him like ASM (or Grealish for us).
We have potentially sent him somewhere that, if he helps keeps them up, will be looking to overtake us in the league from as early as even next season and from an investment POV it's a bit strange because the owners have invested money in top players to presumably take us up the league - helping out a competitor in that regard is a bit like shooting yourself in the foot.
Maybe it is my negative Villa thinking hat on from when I still have nightmares of selling our best players to City like Barry and Milner which helped them overtake us. It's not quite the same as Targett is a backup and not anywhere like a key player for us like those players were, but at least in those situations we got money for those players whereas with Targett we've probably only got a small loan fee.
Would rather have sent him to a Brentford or a Crystal Palace or even a Leeds in all honesty, or told him that he needs to fight for his place, Or if we were going to let Newcastle have him, at least get around 20m for him which is at least a profit on the player we signed from Southampton and would be a fair deal for all parties.
I think this is my gripe - there is no option/provision to buy for Newcastle, probably because in the summer they'll have their eyes on a better player that they'll be happy to spunk their money on. I do hope we got a decent loan fee.

So Gerrard has now confirmed that Targett pushed to leave, which also pretty much confirms his original comments about certain players not wanting to fight for their spot were about Targett also.
As much as I understand he wants guaranteed playing time, if you want to play at the very highest level you have to accept and expect competition for positions.
Had a good debut for Newcastle and I’ve always been a fan, but I’m not a fan of that type of attitude in life so good riddance.- 1

Can’t wait to see Berty play for us again soon

Makes zero sense to me. Out on the lash in full view of everyone. Maybe he genuinely is struggling mentally . We all know that he is no angel and has been seen many times looking worse for wear. That break in Dubai might have set off his drinking again.
Yes he is a bit of a clearing in the woods , but i don't think that he would knowingly go on a path to ruining his career
When we got rid of the deep rooted problems within our club, Jack became so much better on the pitch. Now he’s at City he has Gabby Mk II aka Kyle Walker (who is also in that new video going around) who has seemingly got him back to the antics. Of course he should be his own man and not follow the ****, but I think it’s pretty obvious he’s ended up back with a few bad eggs again.

He’s currently trending for:
1. A video showing him to be a substance abuser at a very high ilk
2. A video showing him to be an incredibly good hearted man
You can be both of these things, but you can ‘t do both of these things and be an elite professional athlete. Somebody just kidnap him and lock him in BMH please

WTF - punched Keinan in the face
State of it, such a strange thing to do - I can guarantee that this lad sees Keinan on the street he is having absolutely zero thoughts of punching him

It would be mad if him and Archer have a really strong finish to this season. The club will have some decisions to make.
Watkins and Ings have been disappointing this season as a collective.
Personally, I think we’ll sell one and go big on a striker but I can see Archer and Davis playing a role next season. It might be worthwhile sending them both back out on loan. They’re still very young.
Imagine if a club took Archer and Davis together, some partnership that would be

He is a very good footballer, nobody on here can deny that and if you do you're just lying to save face. His goalscoring is what has seemingly been an issue because he is a striker by trade, but he IS more than able to play football and none of us should be surprised that he's doing well on loan.

I don't want to get caught up with bashing Gabby, we all know he is an idiot, however it really is a shame that the likes of Clark ended up where they are now when they were set for such a bigger trajectory. With the right senior pros, coaches etc. many of our young talents would have done better from the past 10 years. Thankfully moving forward it seems things are in a much better place, however Ciaran Clark not even getting into Newcastle's 25 man squad is a real shame and shows just how **** up our club was.

Just saw that we considered Marcelo but opted for Chambers after Marcelo had interest from Saudi Arabia, I know he’s a bit old but to even know we’ve had such players on our list means the summer could be really exciting

This forum is so funny some times.
When a player stays he's just collecting a pay cheque and happy to warm the bench.
When a player goes he's chasing the money and not willing to stay and fight for a place
I don’t think Targett would’ve ever been viewed that way, he’s a good player and he’s helped us tremendously getting to where we are. Same as many other players who I doubt would be said to be “collecting a pay cheque”.. times have changed. We’ve had the days of players who were happy picking up a pay cheque and thankfully we’ve now got a squad of players who we all seemingly like and they all seem to be happy too.
Nobody is slagging off Kourney Hause for signing a new deal - he has a role and he’s happy to fulfil that role and gives his all whenever he is needed. Targett only signed a new deal about a year ago, I really really really don’t think Matty T would be any different.

As previously suggested, it seems he doesn’t want to fight for a place with Digne and instead wants to guarantee playing time, which to a degree is understandable however to go from POTS to not wanting to fight for your place is a bit odd and a bit of a cop out if it is the case.
That said, the club needs to prioritise the club, and we’re now a lot weaker in that position should Digne get injured. Even if he kicked up a fuss, if we aren’t able to get Aaron Hickey over the line before the end of the night we really shouldn’t be letting him go. (EDIT: he’s gone, and we aren’t bringing anybody else in). Perhaps Gerrard doesn’t want somebody who doesn’t want to be here and fight for their place, but regardless it makes little sense to weaken ourselves.
Also none of us should care what he brings for Newcastle or how they benefit from it, at the end of the day it leaves us worse off no matter how you look at it.

One of our young players is out on loan doing well and people don’t want him back? I’m so confused.

Only thing that makes sense is if he himself has pushed for a move because he wants to guarantee playing time. Otherwise I don’t think we planned to offload him at all.
-
Looking like this might actually happen, fair play if he gets the move

£2m. What a steal, Lange doing bits

The only thing Arsenal can potentially offer him right now is more money, but we can do that ourselves with a new deal. He isn’t going anywhere

terrible player, terrible attitude, part of the group that cost us so much and got us relegated.
stole a living for us, disgusting, how can a vice captain or "leader" within the club, allow this stuff to happen, idiot.
It’s crazy that he didn’t even just allow it to happen, he encouraged it. Paul Lambert told them they were allowed 1 drink, he then told them they could continue as they please but just make sure you get on the coach.
As grown adults, in a very high paying athletic career, surely they’d realise it makes sense to stick with the gaffer’s ruling - instead they did the complete opposite.
The player Gabby is referring to is Chris Herd, a highly rated prospect that fell off completely following this debacle. Imagine the amount of other young players this idiot guided in the wrong direction, Jack is obviously a key one. So glad we no longer have this kind of poison in the club.- 5

I don’t want to hear him called a club legend ever again. He and those also in that little bunch of pricks at the time are what cost our club so much.
The players were just kicking each other during a Portugal training camp under Paul Lambert because they didn’t want to go, then they just got pissed instead.Shambles, the fact he says it so proudly as well. Absolute clearing in the woods.

He just does very strange things sometimes, he’ll make a world class header then when under absolutely no pressure at all he’ll kick the ball out of play 4 yards in front of him.
He’s definitely a good defender and a great leader, but he just has some very unusual mistakes in him. As others have stated it’s probably a lack of concentration.

Seen a lot of people say "he's been told to say that", but for anybody who has been lucky enough to see BMH recently it has been upgraded even more than the higher standards it was already at. It's actually incredible.
