  1. He played an important role for us and will be remembered fondly but the ambition of the owners means that he’s one of the first popular players that we’ve outgrown.

Hopefully we can get some cash and he gets a move to a good club where he can make a difference.

Well all those PL teams are better than England as well!

                                 Henderson

    james       Stones        Maguire.       Chilwell

                       Rice.             Henderson

    mount.                 Kane.                     Grealish

that team easily finishes second last season and runs city very close.

International level is easier than Premier League most of the time.

So that (and other previous posts) explains why England have been so successful in international tournaments since the inception of the premier league….

  4. He seems to be a really decent man that is delighted with us as much as we are with him.

I think he’ll be with us until he retires, unless he fancies a final fling back in Argentina before he hangs up his boots.

  5. I was referring to when we play the likes of Portugal, France, Spain, Italy etc. However even against the likes of the lesser nations all you need to do is gift them a goal and the game plan goes out of the window.

Rumours that England may even go with Coady instead of mings in a back 4. That would be ridiculous so hopefully Ty starts and puts in a good performance.

  6. I thought he was up there for our best player with jack, Ollie, Martinez and Targett for best player up until the Covid outbreak.

I suspect it knocked him badly. Hopefully he gets enough of a break to come back fully recharged as he could be the difference between a good and a great season.

  7. There have been countless examples where Tyrone dropped a bollock in the league and then managed to get himself out of it at the last second either through his pace or physicality. He’s not going to get away with that if he loses his focus at international level.

  8. As much as I love Ty he’s more error prone than any of the other centre backs and his distribution let’s him down at times.

However to counter that he’s excellent in the air, a leader of men and he’s left footed.

he’s earned his place in the squad on merit. Let’s hope he starts and puts in a performance he can be proud of.

  9. I doubt anyone is going to get sold. Ramsey may be given a championship loan I suspect.

what’s more likely is the ability to change from the 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-2-1

i.e in the latter you have jack and buendia in the wing forward roles.

luiz is probably the anchor in the midfield 3 with JWP (hopefully), McGinn, Sanson fighting for two spots and being fluid enough to move between the relevant positions.

there is easily enough room for at least one top class midfielder.

  10. We have to get European football and win a trophy or show real potential to be able to target champions league the following year to retain Jack.

Issues at the moment are genuine squad depth in key positions - if any of Ollie, mings and targett get injured we’re stuffed.

I’m sure the club will address the squad depth by the time the window closes. The question is who are we targeting to replace in the first team. The links to JWP/Sarr suggest that maybe McGinn or Luiz starting spots could be under threat. for me personally, I’d also like a potential first team challenger for mings to help keep him focussed.

  11. I think we need to take our claret and blue tinted specs here.

we all love and value Tyrone because of what he has done for us and what he has brought in terms of leadership.

Equally, we all know he can drop a bollock and that he can rise to the opposition targeting him (see Zaha).

England’s opposition will be targeting him if he plays and we’ve just got to hope that Tyrone steps up and delivers the kind of performance that we know he can.

Please don't put words into my mouth.

There are different ways we can show support to black people that would get everyone on side. Surely that's a better alternative?

The ONLY way to show support to black people is to be anti racist.

Any pandering to racists or trying to find any middle ground “to get everyone” inside is not a better alternative. it just makes people like you slightly more comfortable as you’re then excused from not having to take difficult decisions to call out racism when you see it.

Kneeling was done by Colin Kaepernick in the NFL in 2016, In 2019 the rules were changed so players had to either stand on the pitch or remain in the dressing room for the anthem. Kneeling didn't become widespread until 2020 when there were massive marches in support of BLM after George Floyd's death, when millions of BLM supporters started taking the knee in support of BLM. Remember, prior to this it had only (recently) been done by a few athletes in the NFL and they were no longer doing it. It's definitely not a fringe viewpoint that kneeling as a gesture is linked to BLM. Putting the words BLACK LIVES MATTER on your football shirt also serves to link kneeling to BLM in my opinion.

Yes, I've also said that how other people percieve your actions and words is just as important as what the intention behind them is. If that makes me as bad as the people booing the players at football matches, so be it. It's also a core tenant of modern anti-racist theory, but whatever.

Honestly I think you and many other people in this thread just subscribe to @Stevo985's views that intention is the only thing that matters. If you do literally anything intended to be anti-racist then anyone that disagrees with you is a racist, and you don't need to engage with their views. It's a stupid mindset that falls down as soon as you think about it for more than 5 seconds, but there you go. I think it's best if I leave you guys to it.

    It’s only a stupid mindset if you’re a racist.

  14. Not in the premier league he doesn’t.

edit - maybe he does. The official premier league stats app doesn’t mention him so clearly is wrong.

JWP will be past him within two seasons anyway.

  15. Opposing teams last season basically said kick jack and you stop our attack. The more intelligent teams even deliberately took turns to kick him to avoid yellow cards to stop our attack.

they did this as they were happy to take their chances with us launching aimless free kicks into the box that they knew they could defend relatively easily.

With JWP on the pitch they just can’t do that anymore as him on the end of a free kick is just as much of a threat as grealish or buendia running at you.

  16. He scored 4 free kicks but no other player scored more than 1.

he only needs to score one more free kick and he will be joint level as the highest free kick scorer in the history of the premier league….and he’s only 26.

  17. 3 goals and 5 assists is pretty average when compared to soucek (10 goals), lingard (9 goals), Harrison (8 goals and 8 assists), prowse (8 goals and 7 assists), gross (8 assists).

there’s a lot to like about McGinn and he played a key role for us in getting promoted. I’m more than happy to have him in the squad but just saying that he needs to show a lot of development in the next 12 months or will be overtaken by others quite quickly.

Think this is really unfair and not accurate. I think most clubs outside the top four would love to have him in their squads, definitely outside top 8.

As I said he got 3 goals and 5 assists last season which is very poor considering he’s playing with jack and Ollie and basically played every game.

I doubt he’ll be starting for us come the start of the season.

When he's at his best there's not many better.

You mean the John McGinn that got 3 goals and 5 assists in 37 league games last season?

  20. McGinn has an important 12 months ahead of him but he needs to knuckle down to avoid being benched and being overtaken by the kids.

At the moment I can only see him sticking around (from the club’s perspective) for the long term because he’s jack’s best mate.
