So. Our daughter decided she wasn't going to compromise her mum's health with childcare, so she told her boss she was going to work from home, went into the office and took her desktop PC home. Luckily she had a young (1 yr old) person to help her set it up:

ah dell inspiron, nice cheap little basic gaming rig if you chuck a cheap £70 low profile gt1030 in it, especially if you have one of the i7 ones

  2. So day one of working from home is going great. Been to work twice, Once to tell someone i have known for over 20 years who is like family that he no longer has a job and once to grab a landline phone as the mobile signal here is useless at the best of times but half the mobile networks seem to have completely collapsed today.

& all because someone ate a bat thousands of miles away last year 😕

Oh & tomorrow i am planning on giving up smoking so that will be some fun times locked in the house with the likely covid infected wife for the forseeable future

    I Bought some bog roll.

    & me, 22 rolls :)

Haven't seen any in shops since Wednesday so grabbed a 4pack when i saw one this morning on the way in to work. Nipped out at lunchtime & the local b&m shop seemed to have some new stock of 18packs so bought one of those too to save having to go hunting again for another week or two

  4. Kinda crazy that the whole world is pretty much f***ed over such small numbers of people. Around 155,000 people die every single day, 2/3 of these are age related. If you take the 60 or so days that people have been dying from covid-19 around 9.3 million people will have died, 6 million or so of these will be as a result of "old age"

Given that many of the 7,200 people who have died as a result of covid -19 are elderly/already sick there is a good chance that a fair old chunk of those would have died anyway as part of the 9.3 million and currently the numbers only account for approximately 0.07% of deaths in the past 60 days or so.

The WHO estimates that there are between 80000-130000 deaths every year from people being bitten by a snake, averaged out over the same 60 day period (using 100,000 per year as an estimate) this would mean that 16,500 people have potentially died from snake bites in the same time as 7,200 have died from covid-19

  5. Full specs & loads of info now out, Biggest downsides seem to be no optical out & Series X games not working from external drives as they are too slow (can be used to play current gen games), The solution to this is effectively going back to proprietary memory cards although this time they are 1tb NVMe drives, no word on what they will cost yet but they will not be cheap (current basic standalone 1tb nvme is about £150) and the 1tb built into the console isn't going to last long with some current gen games already well over 100gb.

Other than that it looks like they have crammed a 2 grand pc into a smallish black box

Pretty amazing that they have let digital foundry just completely take it all apart & show everything months before release. Obviously couldn't care less what sony have come up with

  6. there is no possible way there are only 1500 people with it/who have had it in the uk, you can probably multiply that by 100 at least, No testing unless you are in hospital means nobody has a clue. Could be 5 million people with it if the symptoms are as mild as being reported by people like Arteta. Same with spain & some of the other countries, the simple maths alone on the number of footballers that have tested positive doesn't really work on such low numbers of cases

The best solution I have heard so far is Liverpool are crowned champions. Leeds and Albion are promoted. No relegation. Following season 4 go down and 2 come up.

I don’t know how this will determine European places though.

don't know how anyone could think that not relegating teams as the season hasn't finished but promoting teams because they happen to be in those positions at the moment makes any sense. Leeds/WBA have not won the league, they are not guaranteed a top two finish so why on earth would they be promoted. Same with the other leagues, Look at wycome in L1 they are currently 8th, not even in the play offs but if they win their game in hand they are joint 2nd. League 2 the top 5 are split by 5 points & two teams have played a game less...

If the seasons do not finish & they have no pre determined rule as to what would happen should the season fail to finish then the only sensible option is to completely void everything and start afresh with the same teams in the same competitions next season when possible & effectively just replay the entire season

  9. I think a few celebs/football people getting & it saying they are fine a couple of days later may actually help calm things down a little. there seems to be this great fear that if you get it you are going to die at the moment rather than the general reality of if you get it you should probably stay in bed for a couple of days, avoid other people and you'll more than likely be fine in a few days. Honestly no idea why they are actually even bothering testing people for it, If you think you may have it then follow the isolation advice, unless you are one of the people that end up severely ill as a result of it and need hospital treatment then what is testing people actually achieving. There is no magical cure, the only fix is to wait for it to go & try not to give it anyone else. If half a dozen football players have it there is no possible way that only 800 or so people have it in the uk, Must be in the tens of thousands but most people will barely even notice.

  10. Just stopped off at morissons on the way home to grab some food & stuff for the weekend as it is usually pretty quiet on the way home on a friday. Absolutely insane in there, Busier than christmas eve, looks like it has been robbed with hardly anything left on many shelves, no rice, no pasta, no beans & definitely nothing that even resembles a toilet roll in sight. People in queues stretching down the aisles even for the self checkout tills, Trollies overflowing everywhere, couples with 2 crammed full trollies & their kids with another trolley. Ended up stuck in there for nearly an hour when it is usually a quick 10-15 minutes stop off. People are completely batshit crazy over what will be nothing more than a bit of a cold & a couple of days in bed for most people.

If season is ended, I wonder if the way to decide final standings would be based on the results of playing each team once. 9 home, 9 away. Yes there’s the argument of home advantage etc, but it seems better than just going off current points.

they won't decide anything, It will just be null & void. No other option really as this will be going on for at least the next couple of months if not longer. Loads of players/staff from every club will be getting it at varying times for the forseeable future

I like this, but what about the 7 or 8 teams wity the playoff hopes.  They will inevitable sue saying their possible promotion has been removed.

Also, If they promote those in the current top 2 there is a precedent set to relegate those in the bottom 2.  I like the idea but 8 still don't see it flying.

The only option is to see the season out behind closed doors or play the games into the summer.

If there was an end date to this then they can postpone easily enough but there is no end is there. I imagine games this weekend will be cancelled & more than likely everything else will be postponed/suspended until easter as an initial step to see how things develop. Any longer than that and teams will not have trained for 3/4 weeks, Add to that the fact that players/staff/fans could/will be getting it in another 2/3/4/6/8/10 weeks time so will have to isolate again and how do you arrange training & potential matches around that? The season is over & will be completely voided

  13. Boo hoo he let elphick go, pages & pages  on here saying he was an absolutely shite donkey that should never kick a ball again, Bruce lets him go and he's suddenly better than Franco Baresi....

Brentford spent £30m in the summer more than anyone other championship team, Smith was never allowed to spend anywhere near that, also when Smith left them they were around seventh in the league on course to challenge for the play-offs, after he left they plummeted down the league, it's only after the summer when they spent more than any other team that their fortunes have changed.

Or when they replaced some of smiths fancy dan can't defend players with people with a bit of grit like Jansson...

Not like they are incredibly settled from last season either really, 8 new signings & some loans in,  4 sales & some contracts ending out yet they seem to be doing a pretty good job this season. Probably due to only conceding 33 goals this time around instead of the usual smith shitshow at the back.

Look at our first season down there, they scored 75 goals that season and only won 2 more games than us due to conceding 65 (we only scored 47).

Brighton scored 1 less goal than them & won 10 more games

  15. remember when people thought SARS & MERS were bad at the time? Crazy how this has spread so much compared to what were both very similar coronaviruses that barely managed to infect 10,000 between them

Fulham finished last season on twenty-six points, we're only one point off that total now and with fourteen games left to play, we're also only three goals from their total of thirty-four goals scored for the season.

Still one point off the total. Don't give up hope though, If we're really lucky we may have a slight chance of getting that one point to equal them from our remaining 10 games

Also if Big Sam comes in, even if he keeps us up, we can kiss Jack goodbye. He's definitely not staying to play under him. So depressing.

yeah because being stuck out on the wing in this shit side is so much better......
