  1. Anything would be brilliant against Arsenal.  The Bournemouth and Newcastle results are bad but don't completely kill us off.  For me it's all about the next four weeks and until then I'm remaining slightly hopeful.

If (big if) we can beat Norwich and Newcastle, the next four fixtures will make a massive difference.  And if we can't beat them, then we're done.

Norwich have: Everton, Man U and Spurs + us. 0 points - still on 13 if we win.

Bournemouth have: Man U, Baggies, Palace and Arsenal. +2? - 15

Newcastle: Spurs, us, Everton, Baggies. +1? - 14

Sunderland: Watford, Chelsea, Citeh and Liverpool. +1? - 13

We'd be on 12, assuming nothing from Arsenal or West Ham. And it's game on.  (Also assuming Baggies keep drawing and the big teams pull their fingers out).

I'd put our slow starts down to confidence and squad tinkering (though, to be fair, Remi had little choice but to go with a new central defensive unit). As the game wore on we looked better and more settled compared to that nightmare first 20 when we could (and should) have been down by about 4.

I hope they kick on from this and, hopefully, use the cup final last year as a bit of incentive in their next game.

Yeah - Another completely new back 4 combo no doubt contributed to the terrible first half hour.  Without injuries I think we'd be looking much more solid now, but that's the game and we're by no means worse off than others.  Okore back looks positive, and who knows, but Ilori looks close and might help.

I would have taken a point beforehand, but Newcastle and Bournemouth's results make it not enough.  If only Westwood had hit the target...

  3. Friday night is cocktail night at the rubberman's.  It came from trying to use up various holiday stickies and has ended up with us buying a full cabinet, shaker, glasses etc.  Tonight is a winter negroni:  Bourbon, Campari and sweet vermouth + dash of vanilla bitters.

  4. Is he out?  So that's a back 4 from Hutton, Clark, Okore, Lescott and Richardson.

One who hasn't played for months and 4 who have consistently given away goals with individual mistakes.  I'm not filled with confidence that we'll be keeping a clean sheet.

I think we need to STOP trying something new at the back.

Our defenders aren't very good. The only way they're going to get better is through consistency. We need to decide on a back 4 and stick with it.

Chopping and changing personell and formations every week is incredibly hard for most defences, let alone our one.

Exactly.  That's (one of) the reasons Tim gave us such a crap start - trying a different mix every week.

  6.                          Guzan

    Hutton      Richards        Clark/Okore    Richardson

                            Sanchez

              Veretout                Gana

                             Gil

                    Adama     Ayew

Sticking with the back 4 to try and get some consistency, cut out mistakes and because there's no other choice.

Put Sanchez on Mane, Gana to protect Richardson.  Veretout and Gil to feed Adama and Ayew (and hope for a soft penalty).

  7. Mon-Thurs: 2-3 glasses of wine a night (dependent on levels of stress).

Fridays - 1-2 bottles of beer at 'drinks o'clock' at work.  Couple of cocktails at home with the missus.  Maybe a glass of wine.

Sat-Sun: Couple of glasses of wine.  Maybe one with lunch if we have a roast.

Old daft optimist here thinks the more grim it looks, the less pressure they'll play under, all while obviously getting a little more familiar with Remi's style of play. By most expectations we're gone now, so why not try to play spoiler and you never know. I won't say 'stranger things have happened' because statistically they haven't, but why not be the first to do them :)

    All this.

..but in reality we'll lose by an avoidable goal. 2-1

Where are people getting this unfounded faih in Remi from?

Yes we had a system against city, but even then they had three clear chances inside the 6 yard box.

Against Everton we were bloody awful, there was no shape, no style of play, no cohesion. Setting to play defensively but then having Gil and Grealish in the team made no sense.

Not saying he won't become a good manager, but I just find this faith that people have in him at the moment very strange considering his recent tactics.

Because he's an actual manager, not a chancer.  It's not necessarily unfounded faith that we will suddenly turn into Barca, but faith that he will have a style at least and the players will improve within that - how much I don't know.  I'd make the same comment about Allardyce, Pearson etc.  I'm also going to give him more than 2 games before judging what he's trying to do, whatever the results.  (Unless he starts playing the team that K-Mac put out...)
