Very sad news on Brendan Ormesby. After surviving cancer and heart problems - and a stroke in 2013, he has two kinds of epilepsy - and needs 24/7 care.

My calculations are more basic - just based on strength of schedule (home & away) - based on the ranking of the away records of the teams we play at home - and the ranking of the home records of the teams we play away.
The figures on the right indicate strength of schedule - the lower the number - the tougher it is. My figures would indicate that we have the 3rd toughest home games (PNE/Wed worse) and the 5th toughest.away games (behind Norwich/SheffUtd/Preston/Forest) among the top 10 - both 'distorted' to some degree by the inclusion of the best away record (Norwich)to come to VP and the 3rd best home record to play on our travels (Leeds)
Either way you cut it - we have 5 games we should win - plus Wed away / Leeds away & Norwich at home - that we need pts from. I agree with the general opinion - we should aim for 5 wins 2 draws & 1 defeat = 74 pts - a target that only the Top 4 are on schedule to meet so far.

This year's home kit is the best Villa kit of my lifetime. Would love for Luke to get another go.
I concur - but I would only say of the last 40 years. The 70's kit were good

If we were to win our next 5 on the bounce - it would still only put us on schedule to reach the 6th place points from last season.

I make that about £250k per week in wages alone! Crazy.
Why did you include El Ghazi ? but omitted Tuanzebe & Abraham ?
-
I also think that people are overestimating how many players will be let go.
-
We should sign Anwar El Ghazi - if fee not to much. Very much doubt he is on big money.

For a forum that spends half it's time slagging off ex-managers for buying overpriced players on big wages I really don't understand why the below names are being thrown around as to who to buy in the Summer.
- Maupay
- Lolley
- Forestieri
- Bowen
These are the exact players we shouldn't be looking to buy.
These are the exact players we have been buying for the last 3 seasons and the exact reason the club is currently in the situation it is in.
Each of these players would cost over 10 million each, they would expect their wages to be doubled and they would then come in thinking they have made it in football. We really need to get away from buying 'the best of the Championship' and start finding our own players in the lower leagues and abroad, it's the only sustainable way in football.
Guess who paid 50k for Bowen

You've just described the process for every other player sale the world over except for a fixed-fee, loan-to-buy option which the loaning club can exclusively exercise should the player agree to the move. Which this apparently isn't so if he is for sale we can be one of the bidders, nothing more, nothing less. We get no preferred status, we are just another interested party. Everything else is extraneous, meaningless and valueless.
Essentially, if he is for sale we can be one of the bidders, nothing more, nothing less. We get no preferred status, we are just another interested party in the mix.
Not quite.
If we had a bid for Jack - which we liked - we are under no obligation to inform any other club about it.
AFCB might receive a bid for TM - they are obligated to inform a 3rd party (us) of the amount of the bid for our response.

@OutByEaster? Great reporting, mate - sterling job.
I know what you mean by Clarke - every time I have seen him play - he looks like a transplant from the time that football forgot - bits of Terry Hurlock, Trevor Hockey, Steve McMahon - and more recently, Lee Cattermole.
Shirt never outside shorts., shorts rolled up at waist, sleeves rolled up till they are under his ears.....

I think this can be the only situation where this "clause" would have any value but it still sounds fanciful and unlikely.
Realistically, I don't think there are many secrets in football when it comes to transfers and I think it it's inconceivable that if Mings - or any other player - was interested in coming here permanently and we we interested in signing him there wouldn't be a nod and a wink between player, agent and Villa.
1. If someone comes in with a bid - we will have an opportunity to match it.
2. But if said team increases their bid ? We can match that - but then it develops into an auction which we may well lose.
Anyway, signing Lindsay from Barnsley will cure that

I’d be surprised if we didn’t sign Hause and Mings. I reckon both are expected to be permanent moves.
El Ghazi and Carrol I’m not so sure on.
Mings is not loan to buy - we merely have opportunity to match any bid received by AFCB

You must be new here. John has been writing his match blog virtually since this site started. His match synopses are much read and very much appreciated.
Well i've been here 9 years apparently - but had never noticed John's work before. Will look out for it.

Why didn't you comment in the actual match ratings thread?

If Maupay moves in the summer, it will be to a lower PL club or one of the promoted clubs
-
1. I - and I appear to be the only one - expect JG to be our skipper NEXT season.
2. I think Tom Carroll may be turn out to be a good signing - if he joins us.Seems to have lost his way a little.
3. The average age Saturday was 27 - albeit most of the younger players are on loan.
4. Abraham & TM will need to be replaced - unless we get very lucky with Mings
5. Expect JK to get his move back to France.

I don't blame the players one bit. everyone knows law 45 in the 47 laws of power. too much innovation is traumatic and will lead to revolt.
however I doubt this clown can even read. or if he does it's just sport autobiographys.
I had a new manager at work and he was a total word removed pissed us all off so morale dropped and so did output. we made him look like a right tool to his boss

No i don't want to keep switching managers i want us to actually get in a good manager for once.
Leeds got Bielsa, Newcastle got Benitez. We get..well, Dean Smith.
For years we've settled for average managers. McLeish, Lambert, Bruce and now Smith. If we keep having average managers we will keep remain average.
Who was manager when Newcastle were relegated?.

Its a Norwegian remake of "The Manageress" which starred of course the lovely Cherie Lunghi.
I think JC plays the guy who thinks he should have got the job.
