They’ve obviously set up much differently and we’re struggling to thread the passes through them, Bailey in particular. If the same pattern continues we’re going to get one right, sloppy end to the half though so let’s see how we restart.

Seems pretty clear but aside from matches where we've already qualified, this pretty much means the end of Olsen rotation, right?
The Everton game ended his career here methinks

Fernandes denies Hojlund a hattrick by taking the penalty.
If he’s the designated penalty taker then so be it, not a time for sentiment

So England can still play cricket then, that’s a relief, albeit against poor opposition.
Can see Buttler resigning, he looks absolutely spent. He’s one that’s never quite reached the heights he should have individually in my opinion, when he’s on it, he’s one of the best batsman in the world but he’s just not found the consistency. Fingers crossed we beat pakistan and at least finish in the top eight.

Ah okay ha my bad! Thought it was a bit weird

Anyone else feel like it ended abruptly? I mean I know the game against Notts County essentially decided it all but that was not the last game of the season and I’m surprised there was no further episodes showing them winning the league etc, very odd way to end it in my view. Overall, not as good as S1.

Qualifying for the CL in the PL is pretty much the holy grail for anyone outside of Man City, who take it as a given they'll be there. So once you're there, and in the case of Newcastle, after a 20 yr absence, and you draw some genuinely top teams yet you don't play your strongest 11.
Truly bizarre. I honestly don't get it. They've got Bournemouth on Saturday ffs.
Don’t think it’s out of choice, they have an extensive injury / unavailable for selection issue currently

Oh how it must have irked him to have to apologise, he strikes me as the kind to be more bothered by that than a £2000 fine / contribution

Is there anyone / any site keeping track of the Tory related scandals? Must be exhausting work to be fair with the volume of it all.
And every time, we hear that there’s no widespread problems, no cultural issues and that procedures are robust - I don’t know how they can even keep a straight face when saying this any longer.

Just not quite on it today and Forest did a job on us. At the end of the day we dominated the game without creating too many clear cut chances and we lost to two 25 yard strikes, the second of which was a goalkeeping error.
Too much broke down with Digne today, he’s been largely excellent this season but with the amount of opportunities he had he should have contributed much better. We struggled to find space in the middle which was credit to their setup and discipline, when we did get in we were wasteful - had to happen at some point.

They’re doing very well to close down any space in their half and in the middle of the pitch so we’re struggling to link up, they’re always going to look dangerous on the break with the pace up top.
-
Bit worried with their pace in attack, if they time the runs well they’ll get in behind Torres with ease, Awoniyi is back too and he’s scored against us already.
That said, I am looking forward to us in attack, has to be Watkins, Diaby and Bailey for me (with McGinn out on the left), if we click within those three you’d think there’s goals for them.
I understand the comments about pressure and it being ‘must-win’ but I’m just looking forward to watching us every single game at the moment and I’m not as nervous in the build up or during the matches in comparison with previous years where we’ve either been fighting for promotion or trying to remain in the division - they were pressure game, this is just some bloody great fun in comparison.

Still hasn’t scored a hat trick if you go by the weird German definition that all goals need to be scored in the same half.
Never heard of that before

I’m sure there’s nothing in it but, both last week and this week, MoTD omitted to show the XG graphic for United’s game (the one that pops up in the bottom corner whilst the post match interviews are being shown).
But they did so for all other matches. I understand the BBC are not the keepers of the XG statistics and anyone interested enough could find it out from other sources but I’m guessing/ assuming that it was extremely low for both games.

He does a lot of the commentary on the football league highlights too

Just been announced he’s had his contract terminated and he’s posted on Instagram about his livelihood not meaning anything in comparison with what’s going on in Gaza.

When was the last time both our main CBs were proper ball-playing CBs, or at least significantly better with the ball than the average CB?
Long gone are the days of cloggers like Dunne and Collins.

They are blaming the kit now for the poor performances. Considering we are still getting results in our disgraceful jersey then I dont see the problem
Wow, would never have thought United would blame a kit for their poor performances………………

Great news! Just need Ramsey back now too and our squad depth will be significantly better.

It’s a massive opportunity potentially, Newcastle have Arsenal at home, United are away at Fulham and Brighton away at rejuvenated Everton - good chance at least 2 of them will drop points which means we could open up a significant gap with a win ourselves.

So firstly, nice to see the beeb putting is on ahead of Liverpool.
Secondly, Murphy is such a pillock, conceited little gremlin.
Thirdly, disappointed they didn’t acknowledge Charlie Aitken’s passing at all.

Just got home from the match.
Solid performance with some good quality at times, barely broke out of first gear and had we been more clinical would have scored at least 5. Thought McGinn was very good today, along with Konsa, Torres, Diaby and Digne. Special mention for Bailey too who just looks a different player now.
Jury very much out on Zaniolo, we were evidently better with him not on the pitch second half.
Thought the atmosphere was pretty good all things considered, seemed like the Holte made more effort to break into spontaneous song than I’ve witnessed the last few times I’ve been (first visit this season).
Only annoyance is the goal conceded, which sums up how good we are at the moment because if that’s all I’m getting annoyed at then things are really going well.

Ratings & Reactions: Villa v AZ Alkmaar

Result is all that matters but we certainly got a tad lucky with that corner, terrible miss from Kamara.
They played our high line with some intelligence, it still didn’t work for 90% of the time but they got their goal and I wasn’t sure we’d get back into it at that point. Great to see Diego score finally, he was walking round on the pitch at the end so assuming his injury is nothing too serious. Second goal was well crafted and well taken.
Puts us in a great position now, hopefully we play a bit better against Legia.
