It's difficult to know what are aims are anymore. Do we want to be one of the best teams in Europe, or is 4th to 6th acceptable as a target. I suppose the results dictate a lot of that.

It feels fine to me to beat Bournemouth and then only get a point v Arsenal and Man City, but what is the aim? Interesting ten days ahead.

Gonna throw a wild thought out but perhaps the aim is to try and win all three? Much the same as the aim would be to win any game……..

  2. I’ve just flicked on to ‘Saturday Social’ on sky sports for the second time since it’s replaced Soccer AM.

Now I get it’s not really aimed at me, it’s obviously meant to be for kids but still, it’s a total joke. The first time I put it on some months back they were ranking goalkeepers in the PL and didn’t even have Martinez on the board. Now this morning they’re ranking young English players and apparently after one appearance Mainoo (United) is world class. What a joke of a show.

Was McGinn standing there for Dougie to aim at?

    Clever nanny.

My thoughts exactly, Sidwell and Crouch talked about him being there to add confusion for the defence but I think it’s much simpler and I agree that he’s there as a marker and for ‘something’ to aim at.

  4. Good performance overall, a bit laborious in the first half but stepped it up enough in the second.

Olsen didn’t put a foot wrong, which I’m sure he’s delighted with. Moreno did better as the game went on culminating in the winning goal and a great moment for him and the fans alike.

Kamara has that pass in him most games, we just usually get lucky and don’t concede, I thought Lenglet played pretty well again, McGinn had a bit of an off night I thought.

Real shame to not have wrapped up the group tonight but getting the win was the primary objective, Bailey just needed to lob that one a bit more (a la Watkins at Chelsea last season).

  5. Kamara has that pass in him every match, we just got punished this time. Duran’s struggling to replicate what Ollie gives us (understandably) in terms of playing with his back to goal and bringing others into the game.

Bit of a struggle all round after a highly encouraging start, surprised Duran didn’t go across goal too with his effort shortly after diaby’s goal, seemed tailor made for it.

It’s ridiculous. I guess will have to walk to Aston.

Are they going to be exclusively using Witton station to get Legia fans to Birmingham hence no trains going the other way until 23:10?

It’s actually not too bad a walk, city centre/new street to VP, done it a couple of times and takes between 45-60 minutes depending on how much ale you’ve had!

  7. Football doesn’t need fixing.

It didn’t need VAR and it’s implementation has added very little whilst taking away a lot.

It doesn’t need sin bins, no one is asking for it, and yet it will be implemented and again will add very little whilst taking away a lot.

But I guess the powers that be have to justify their careers by making some form of impact before retirement eh.

  8. Introducing (possibly) sin bins.

In a time when referees are ruining the game (partly through their own incompetence and partly through the ridiculous parameters they’re given to deal with these days) surely the last thing you want to do is go and make another significant alteration to the rules which will see then become even more involved in the ebb and flow of a game.

  9. I hope this doesn’t go on to affect Cash, hopefully he’s ignoring all the bile one social media, it’ll blow over quickly enough but he seems a bit of a sensitive sort perhaps. Yes it was a bad tackle, it wasn’t a horror tackle, you see them up and down the country every weekend.

I lkie that they seem to have given him a bulletproof bra rather that a vest. Looks absolutely tiny on him

He’s alright, if he comes under fire he’ll just activate his iron man suit

  11. Bournemouth is huge, last season we played and lost to Leicester before playing city and arsenal concurrently, we need to go and break our curse down there with three points and still be firmly amongst the pack heading into the same two fixtures.

I just can’t stop looking at the league table, what’s happening is phenomenal.

  12. His body language was off today, from early on in the game he looked frustrated, throwing his arms out in a strop on more than one occasion.

He’s a good player, but today was the definition of an off day.

  13. Great result, whilst they should have killed us off in the first half we could say the same in the second IMO. Thought Torres was excellent today, both defensively and with the ball, great header for the goal too.

Obviously Martinez had a good game too, thought Tielemens changed the game for us second half. Great result.

  14. Not a good half but tidy ending! Great ball in and cracking header from Pau! Though he owed us that one for not putting us one up earlier on.

Not sure what’s up with Diaby, his body language has been awful from the start. Need improvement from all though to win this one.
