Our new Coutinho, even if it was true, no thanks, although I guess it would bring a couple of quid into the club.

I don't think Messi is stupid enough to come here now at his age ..... if that move was going to be made then it should have been five years ago at least.

I think he'd be a lot better than Coutinho but I get the comparison because Messi would be targetted in a manner he's never faced before in games played at a pace he has never played at before and at his age, there is every chance he would struggle big time. Would still take him for one season just for the commercial gain and for his presence as bait for other top players but would not see him as influencing a push to silverware and top 4.

Just because you say it doesn’t make it true.  At 4pm tomo we’ll know if that’s the case imo, if they draw or lose then they aren’t IRRELEVANT.

My point is that it is not between us and Brighton so yes, I get your point but I think there are a lot of people who think we have to finish 6th to make Europe when its actually 7th thus our focus has to be on Spurs and Brentford rather than on some ridiculous notion that Brighton will mess up ...... three times in a week !!!

Well it’s very likely they’ll lose against City, so really it’s just one game against Southampton.  Now you have an argument that it’s Southampton and how poor they are but there is always a chance because it’s the PL and we have evidence as Brighton got stuffed by Everton just last week.  Unlikely as it is, plus we just sit back and watch because we’ve done our bit, Brighton still have to go and beat Saints,

I keep saaying this but I'll say it again ...... BRIGHTON ARE IRRELEVANT !

We make Europe in 7th, not 6th. Our battle is with Spurs and Brentford ..... NOT Brighton !

I’m not sure how us and Brighton can both lose the last game?

You need to go and study the table. It is 7th place we are after and Brighton have no relevance unless they lose their two games in hand which is unlikely. It is between us, Spuds and Brentford for 3rd and we top that table.

Gutted, a draw is better than I expected but those 2 dropped points are very costly.

Europa was in our hands assuming Man City beat Brighton. Now we've got to beat Brighton for 7th

    No we haven't !
We need to match Spuds to finish above them and we need to match Brentford to finish above them. That may mean needing to beat Brighton but it can also be achieved by losing if the other two lose aswell !

  6. Polls are largely irrelevant at this stage in terms of voter intent at the back end of next year. By then, we COULD have an end to the Ukraine war, end to the resulting energy crisis, end of high inflation and there could be a general upbeat feel good vibe in the country. Not saying that will happen but if it does, expect it to influence voting !

Remember also that at some point, Labour has to switch from headline intents to actual costed policies which is when it usually goes wrong for them. At the moment they are ducking out of detail which gives them an easy ride against a party having to make detailed decisions.

  7. The GE will be won - as always - by the party that pitches the most tents in the middle ground. It may be a largely silent majority but the majority of voters are middle ground voters as Corbyn found out ..... we are not an extreme left or right country albeit the noisy extremists might have you believe that.

The Tories are disjointed at the moment. Sunak is solid, safe but boring and I'm not convinced any more than 50% of Tories even like him. Starmer is probably the best Labour leader for quite a long time but I think the middle ground voters remain unconvinced that he actually leads a party that is still hugely influenced by left wing sources. Is he really just tolerated by the left rather than supported by them ?

In my humble opinion, the next GE result will be heavily influenced by events that have yet to happen and the likelihood is that the current "voter opinions" owe more to the usual mid-term "grass must be greener" views than any major GE voting attentions.

    Not in the squad. Injured?

Not in the squad because a Dyche Everton will simply destroy him. Phil is pretty decent in games where the opposition will let you play (as per last week) but in tight, physical games against teams out to lump anything with skill then he is a fly on a windscreen and is rightly not in the team.

  9. Martinez needs to shut up and concentrate on his game which is not where it needs to be. If that had been Olsen out there today then we'd be all over him. I don't care about goal #4 but his kicking was poor and his time-wasting sends out all the wrong signals when there's still 30-40 minutes to play ...... we are at home and he/we should have been more positive.

Not sure his head is where it needs to be at the moment !

I'd like to see what Bailey could do from the bench, unfortunately I think his speed makes him undropable atm

Bailey is not, never has been and never will be a 90 minute player. He is an impact sub and that's where he can be devastating. Over 90 minutes, he has 10 minutes at the start of each half where he has blistering pace, after which he slips back to a lower gear because he hasn't the fitness to keep it going.

  11. To be honest, I switched off at 'what do we do in the short term to score the gap in goals from the Ings sale' because I don't recognise any gap of concern. Watkins will need to play better as will others but as we are improving steadily then I have no concerns about that.

I'm also thinking ..... why is this guy getting into a panic because he thinks we won't sign a forward ? Do you know something we don't ?

  12. Signing big players is like buying a house in so much as there is a chain. The club prepared to release a player to us will only do so when the club holding his replacement releases to them and so on. Hence you find there is much talking right up to the last couple of days and then it all moves ..... in theory. Basically, stay patient as any inbound will happen very late !

Or would it be someone  that has done it in the past but had struggled with injury or poor form? E.g. Bamford (yuk).

I've just projectile vomited over my cat from a good five yards away ..... thanks for that !!!
