  1. Can't believe I'm saying this but Villa were tactically very poor. I'm gobsmacked that Emery was so stupid in setting up to face Liverpool with the same tactics that we used to beat Burnley. Liverpool are not Burnley !

The scousers would have analysed the Burnley game and set up with a response which they did. Very disappointed and shocked at Emery's approach and bringing on his lover-boy Bailey once again ? What is the matter with him ?!!!

Will we go with the same plan as we did against Burnley, let them have the ball and break quickly on them.

I suspect the answer is "definitely not". That was a plan designed specifically for Burnley, no doubt after watching videos. As Spuds found out yesterday, Burnley set out to score more than you do and don't exactly prioritise defence so are massively wide open at the back. Liverpool don't play like Burnley so we'll have a different plan for sure !

  3. If Villa TV are covering the game then surely they have the gantry. I can't see that anybody else will or can be covering the game thus all those overseas links must be bogus unless they are taking the Villa TV feed which is highly unlikely given it is hardly a pro setup. I still suspect that only Villa TV will have this plus any streaming channel that is intercepting the Villa TV stream !

Were you expecting us to sign a better CB than Pau Torres? He already improved our team.

Emery wants to be able to pick the right CB pairing for whoever we play which won't be the same pairing every week. I suspect he will be as alarmed as I was at seeing how easily Torres was brushed aside for the Burnley goal which suggests for all of his skills, he is nowhere near required Premier hardness as yet. I suspect Longlet would have held his ground with ease !

Why don't we just get behind him, he will offer us something this season and will move on next summer. He is a good but inconsistent player

    ...... no, I really don't agree. Define "good" !!!

Decent impact sub but has never been a 90 minute player ...... never, not once, ever !

Unfortunately, he’s just not good enough for the Premier League. He really struggles with the intensity of the English game, both physically and mentally. For his own sake, he desperately needs to go back to a less demanding league and rebuild his career.

Definitely this ...... his head is all over the place. He never looks like he is enjoying games and I suspect he is struggling with all sorts of demons because he himself knows he is playing at a level he can't perform at. Do him good to drop a level and start enjoying his game more.

  7. Not too bothered about that one ...... was always a tough game and we'll move on from here.

My only criticism is starting Bailey who, to my eyes, is not and has never been Premier standard. He was way out of his depth tonight and hopefully Emery saw enough evidence. Hopefully he won't start another game ..... just use him as a supersub ..... better off, sell him fast !

  8. Cam had a few chances in the US and showed little if anything. The likes of Kelleyman and Philogene-Bidace grabbed attention but Archer didn't. Yes we could persevere and give him several starts but we'd suffer as a result and until he adjusted his game. Ideal would be a loan spell to another Premier side ..... that would make or break him !

Great: Youri, Kamara, McGinn, Doug, Konsa

    Below par: Coutinho, Buendia, Archer

Everyone else fairly routine... and we STILL looked absolutely brilliant for most of the match.

    Mmmmmmm ............

Thought Kamara was patchy - lot of poor passes in first half especially.

Thought Coutinho had his best game since his debut. Still a little too slow but less lightweight and significantly better than Buendia was !

Archer looks poor and out of his depth. Maybe he will improve but at the moment looks like an average Championship player !

  10. I'm not sure Olsen would be our #1 if Emi leaves but in fairness to him, he is a decent stopper and ball handler but his main weakness is his distribution which is important to the direction we are heading. Unai presumably believes he can improve him in that area or he wouldn't still be hanging around.

I do think a lot of Villa fans are a little OTT regarding Martinez. Very decent keeper but he has poor games and he makes his own gaffs which generally go un-noticed compared with the social media carnage when Olsen makes the same mistakes.

I genuinely hope Emi stays but, unlike many, I won't be slashing my wrists if he is lured away by big money ...... especially if that money buys us a a top forward or top attacking midfielder.

PS: I'm also not convinced Unai is mad keen on Emi and his attitude and I'm equally not convinced Emi would have any problems leaving for a so-called "big club" !

it doesn't mean the teams that have struggled last season don't have good players.....it means as a team, they have lost their way.

I think there is some low hanging fruit to be had.

Once again, too many fans are judging these players on how they performed with other clubs ..... with different team mates, different coaches, different styles. What our back room staff will be doing is looking at what they might offer within OUR club with our squad and our style. They may be deemed outstanding fits with what we want, irrespective of how they looked playing amongst donkeys with garbage coaches !

I don’t think you are in the minority it’s just people have doubts if he will be good enough to be a starter.

I don’t think people are saying he isn’t good enough for the bench

I think fans often make the mistake of assuming a new player will come here and be that same player here. If Villa/Emery sign a new player, it will be primarily because they believe they can turn that player into what they want rather than signing him to play exactly the same as they do/did at their previous club.

We will play differently, with different team-mates, different manager, different coaches, etc ...... all signings are really based on potential rather than how good they are with their current team.

I'm sure Messi would have loved playing under Bruce, whipping balls into Scott Hogan 🤣 We'd defo have beat Fulham in the final that season with Messi in the team .

I didn't mean here as in Villa - I meant here as Premier League !
