Everything screams a top top Defensive midfielder should be on the way. But i think Smith prefers ball controllers rather than destroyers.
Who do we have that controls the midfield through ball control against the top teams

I think we should cash in now. Could get a good price for him.

For someone who thinks themselves as a “playmaker” the ball rarely went through him today
I don’t think he is a playmaker at all. It was a bit like watching Carlos Sanchez. If you remember him. He just kind of wandered around and closed down space.

I have been watching for 20 minutes . I haven’t seen him touch the ball.

Grealish was looking like he was going to be Lee Hendrie mk2 until about 23 when he started to fulfil the early promise.
I always rated Grealish, from the first time I saw him play as a teenager. Couldn’t understand why others couldn’t see it.
Luiz ain’t got it. IMO . Don’t get me wrong I think he is decent. But not a premier league player- week in week out.

I feel that our fanbase needs to see this video and other pieces on Sanson to realise how important he could actually be for us when he's at full fitness.
The stats on pressures and successful pressures alone mean that he could be super important to our midfield. In games where we're expected to be on the front foot and don't necessarily need constant protection in front of our back four, I feel the below could be one way we could set up to maximise our attacking threat.
While I admit there are concerns around defensive responsibility in the above, it does feel a little bit Harlem Globetrotters with all that attacking potential
that's the team I think he is working towards

Now we hav all this cash + bargaining power we should be poaching a wonderkid CB from Europe. Surely we can find a mature 20yo for 20-25mil, hopefully one with good passing abilities that can move to DCM if needed.
spot on

Haven't read much here yet, but I must admit that I found Purslow's statement slightly disquieting - it was very much a 'we're done' statement. We wanted to replace Jack and we've done it with three players - good - and we've brought in Ashley Young - good - and we've got some fine academy players - good. but for me it feels like there's a whole chunk about strengthening the rest of the squad that's missing.
If we'd kept Jack and only signed Ashley Young would we done? Of course not.
The club needs a back up keeper, a centre half and most importantly, at least one, possibly two central midfielders.
If we're done for this summer, I'm not sure we're progressing.
Maybe a hidden message to others, put your prices down, we aren't spending that much. Who knows? I would think a quality midfielder would come in.

Could this be a Cantona moment from Smith.
”would like to buy Ward Prowse”
”no chance!”
” Ok goodbye, wait … hang on a minute before I go what about Ings!”
-
I’ll miss him playing dead

Ollie will go out wide. I think it is why we bought him. Cause he can play both.

Did we activate a release clause?

A lot of money going on Ings - and that is without any real build up or media coverage or even us clearly needing another striker - what's going on?
Oh no! This is a Sheringham / Cascarino repeat.
We want JWP and they offer Ings instead.

Because we are not going to catch up with a team that has spent a billion in 5 years over night. They are the best and richest team in the world. It doesn’t mean our owners lack ambition if we can’t currently compete with them.
So our ambition is long term. We will get there in 5 years or so. Jack couldn’t wait for that.
I think perhaps Jack’s small bit-part in the England squad has changed his mind. Being subbed after just coming on against Denmark. And then sitting on the bench most of the time etc.
He has realized that a football career is very short and can’t hang around. Wants to find out what he can achieve. Ballon dor perhaps.
and as you say we can’t compete with the big boys on that front. Not for a long time anyway.- 1

I’ve no idea what went on in the meetings, do you know.

He demanded to leave. If he wasn't willing to play and strike what options did the club have?
They clearly didn't want to sell him.
How do you know the club didn’t want to?

My son is gonna look a right tit in his Grealish shirt.

I’m starting to think, I’d rather go with what we’ve got, bar maybe one further signing, than be rinsed by other clubs for their share of the Grealish money. I don’t think this season will be what we wanted it to be now but equally I don’t think we will struggle (although could get off to shaky start due to all this leading up to it).
That 100mil will be the only silver lining of losing Jack and I’d be gutted if we just squandered it, overpaying for average players.
Totally agree, no need to panic buy. Use it wisely.

Curtis Jones?
No thanks
Curtis Jones?? A player Klopp thinks can develop into a first eleven player at Liverpool and help them win major trophies?

I have alway said I do not rate Tammy and it’s is my opinion will only get you so far as a club and the finances involved isn’t worth it for me. Smith likes & knows him - fair enough. It’s the safe move to make I get it but also shows a slight blind spot and I question the judgement.
Fair enough, it is a lot of money.

I think Bissouma can control the midfield and Ward Prowse tries too.
I don’t have the stats on them.
maybe we could get both, who knows
