  1. I think we've done okay, certainly seen us play a lot worse against Swansea. Okore, Sanchez and Cleverley really need to step it up for me. We've got a goal in us, need to get it into Benteke sooner and press higher up.

When Westwood returns, I don't quite see where Cleverley fits in our team, with Delph and Sanchez as must starts. I also can't see Lambert leaving out Westwood as he is one of his favourites, I hope we don't play all four just for the sake of it.

I think it's quite clear that Delph will leave in January so that will solve that particular dilemma for Lambert. Still absolutely no point of playing Cleverley and Westwood in the same midfield though.

I'm not so convinced Delph will leave in January, unless Liverplop are really desperate, but I guess we'll wait and see.

  3. I've been disappointed by Cleverley so far, or at least how he's been utilised. Quite a few games he's been stuck out on the left, being quite ineffective. I'd have like to have seen him play more advanced, centrally, which we haven't really seen. Lambert was pretty much forced into playing him, if it wasn't for our injuries woes Jores would still be sitting on the bench.

    Excellent signing however.

Oh behave yourself. Jores has been amazing but our defence in general has this season for the most part. Jores was rightfully 5th choice, not based on quality but based on fitness. At the end of the day if the team is playing well, even a player like Jores should sit out if players in his position are playing well.

I'm saying Lambert didn't have any choice but to play him when he did, there were no other options for us. I'm not saying Jores should have started first choice, but I don't agree his form is down to great management (although I never stated him not playing was down to bad management).

Credit to Lambert for waiting until he was ready to play him, and giving him his chance when the opportunity arose.

    Great management.

  6. Now that we seem to have gotten past more of the pro and anti arguments, I think this thread acts almost as an "after game thoughts" thread, and thus...

...I thought we were good today.  If anything, we were actually spurred on by the (incorrect) red card - Man Utd were more threatening up until that point.  The defensive core of Guzan and any/all of Okore/Vlaar/Clark looks so, so solid.  Sanchez is improving in midfield and Delph coming back is an obvious boost.  The notion of keeping the ball more is a good choice and allows us to build; and we were brave (and correct) to keep this against Utd.  Benteke is obviously a class act, of course.  It's a shame we can't keep a completely settled side due to injuries and suspensions, but I think the signs are promising.  I genuinely think we would've got a result against the Baggies had it not been for Richardson and, whilst the "second best" team today, we still could've won this.  De Gea's save from Benteke was superb.

Irrespective of whether or not Paul Lambert is the right man for Aston Villa (I've still got time for him), I think we're starting to show signs of a settled team that needs to add quality - especially in a creative sense.  Is anyone massively worried about relegation?

I agree about the red card, it really fired us up and that sense of injustice motivated everyone. I though Lambert did pretty well today too, I would have liked Bacuna to start but that was my only real complaint.

The nature of the table means a couple of defeats drops us right back down there so relegation is still a concern for me.

  7. I'd be very surprised if the red card doesn't get rescinded. I agree with a poster earlier, that I still don't think we would have won with 11 players but that doesn't excuse that woeful decision. It seemed to fire us up and we were getting a few niggly calls our way for once that we never do against United.

  8. That point feels like 3 after the shocking decision involving Gabby. Lots of fantastic performances, I'm amazed that we held on (we could have won it). I may not rate Lambert and I'm certainly still in the camp that wants him out but I have to admit that the players certainly give their all for him.

    Also, Okore is marvellous.

  9. He was fantastic whilst the ball was in front of him, winning tackles and headers and also very comfortable in possession. Just needs to be a little more aware of the balls over the top as Vardy was causing him problems first half.

I really like him, hope to see him get a good stretch of time in the team and I'm more than happy if that is alongside Clark if his form continues too.

  10. They had a couple of chances, we had one too - when we've been under the cosh we've not been able to string two passes together.

I think their chances were slightly better than ours. It was all Burnley in that last 10 minutes, I don't think that is deniable. Sadly, it will overshadow our brilliant first half performance but I was very utterly disappointed with the majority of the second half.
