  1. We need a Milner handball to bring us level... oh... whatever happened to Jim?
  2. General, I know this is a long shot - a very long and off topic shot indeed. But would Villa or anybody reading this thread be able to contribute to this? http://www.tvoc.co.uk/ After my family and my Villa, aviation is a keen interest of mine and this represents one of the unique sights and sounds currently in our aviation heritage and on our current airshow scene. It really would be a terrible shame if she were to be grounded - she has so much life left in her... Apologies for the off-topic post; but she needs all the help she can possibly get. If only I had the contact details for that Lottery winner who wants to stay anonymous. Up the Villa - here's to three points in Black Cat land.
  3. After today's game at White Hart Lane - "Carew, Carew, Carew's been dire?" Not very supportive I guess :-(
  4. 3 minutes of twitching then now for HR...
  5. This commentator really likes to say VAN DER VAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRTTTTTT, doesn't he? And red card my arse.
  6. Crikey - a touching cloth moment there - Crouch again...
  7. Carew, Carew, Carew's been dire???? :-p
  8. WE are wavering against the tide now boys... COME ON... FFS.
  9. Half time feelings... Come on Villa...
  10. Well at least it can't be 6-0...
  11. I've spent 40 flaming minutes trying to get a feed that actually works and then experience a capitulation in injury time FFS.
  12. General, I think a hedgehog would be a little simple and lightweight for a guy of such fine military standing and I challenge you to consider something a little larger? Could I tempt you into risking an escalated attempt at a humble Bunny rabbit? I think you could get a good firm grip by the ears? After all, a hedgehog would require some accurate handling. Would you go for a Bunny instead, or even as a follow on? Great to see some humour in this thread after a long, painful summer. UTV...
  13. Ohhhhhh Yesss!!! Sorry CVByrne - couldn't resist ;-)
  14. Diablo - I believe that is what we have to take into account most significantly with the appointment of our new manager. I guess the biggest thing is that for the relative size of our clubs (back then...) he could get away with more 'dud' buys in the market than he would have done at Villa? I'm talking different levels of club finances back then? It may be that he can't afford too many Bad Buys in the current climate at Villa - who knows. He might get the warchest that MON wanted in January... you just don't know what has actually gone on. For sure, I see on SSN that 'Woy' Hodgson is already looking to trim back the squad at Liverpool - maybe they have a 'sell to buy' ethos for a bit too as they look to sell the club? I don't know - it's all speculation and early exciting days. Bring on Monday, though Stoke will be desperate for a point at least, if not more. And you know how it worked out two years ago when the script was unfurled... I recall it was a great game, Barry gave the ball away (the first of several incidents of that ilk for him that season) and above all, it was a great atmos... UTV.
  15. CVByrne - I also seem to recall Fergie going for some players on the back of Euro 96 hype... so even he is fallable. Messrs Poborsky (that goal at VP?) and Jordi Cruyff? I might be wrong as I am knocking on a bit... Maybe I was a bit harsh on Savo... bandana (whatever happened to that idea?) but Curcic stays... Grrrrr :-)
  16. Sparky - Savo the spitter? Or Savo the goal at Wembley? I guess it's what you choose to remember of him. I could see in the warm-ups that he had a good skills base, but on the pitch he was more miss than hit. I used to cheer him on, and his moment of magic at Wembley was a fine highlight of my life, but the spitting incident and the pure fact that deep down we knew he was a bit of a donkey when actually playing the game makes him a bit of a dud in my book. The fact that for several years after that parts of the Villa crowd chanted 'Savo, Savo, Savo...' when one of our strikers foiled a chance says it all... In irony, many a true sentiment. Fernando - he wasn't with us long enough really was he and for all his drinking, I didn't think Gary 'Lord' Charles was too bad at right back. I will maybe take that back and replace with............ Sasa 'Nutjob' Curcic. CVByrne - I get your point entirely. I just hope Gerard is not ultimately judged by signings. This is a results game and whatever MON's failings we did get some very good results. Just some shocking home results too...
  17. Who was the last Villa manager who never made a crud signing? MON - several pellets of pooh amongst several diamonds. DOL - Djemba Djemba anyone? GT2 - Mark 'The Crab' Kinsella, Oyvind Leonhardsen ('Is he still around?') JG - ?? Bosko Balaban (la, la, la, la, la) And Alpay as it turned out... Brian 'Walks On Water' Little - Fernando (why did we never sing that?) Nelson, Savo (big risk...), Franz 'The Vehicle' Carr (had one great FA Cup game vs Forest) and Carl Tiler?????? Big Ron - ? Has to be Fashanu... Nii Lamptey? Dr Woe - Ivo Stas... GT1 - Tony Cascarino. I could say more, but you get the general idea. My point is, everyone can buy a rum one (or two).
  18. Happy with the appointment on the basis of his track record with Liverpool and his general reputation. I am concerned about his health - he can't go doing those 'MON-like raving lunatic gestures' up and down the touchline given his health history, but I wish him all the best in the job and he has my support. I'm glad Pinnochio Thompson turned us down... That Anti-Villa scouser would never have got a clap from me. Vivre Gerard et Aston Villa... L'etente cordial. Bon chance Gerard, votres yeux de poisson... (sorry, I used to call you 'fish eyes' when you were on Merseyside - nothing against you...)
