I think Wolves is no.1. Iconic, immediately recognisable, clean, minimalist, works in every format, unique shape but without being insane. I think it’s perfect tbh. It’s what I wanted ours to be - a lion but just quite simply and recognisably the Villa lion

Agree that Wolves is the best crest in the league, but just can't get behind the idea of a standalone lion for us. A wolf's head is instantly recognisable as Wolves, a fox's head would work for Leicester even, but a standalone lion wouldn't scream Aston Villa to anyone IMO, because as has been discussed at great length in this thread and others, we aren't even the only club in our own league who use a lion in our branding

And apparently President Business is one of the best Execs in the sporting world at branding…..

Did an incredible rebranding exercise at some American sports team, so utterly groundbreaking that half of the posters on here have no idea who the team are or which sport they play

Bobby and Jack. Trying to think of others where the younger is better or more talented. Michael Laudrup was more talented than his younger brother Brian.  What about the Moore brothers?

I thought there was a massive waiting list for season tickets?  So, if true, how can a new stand not be logical?

They don't want the new seats to be filled by season ticket holders, they want daytrippers and tourists who will spend a lot more money per game attended.

Presumably as the LG and TV are not selling to capacity, they've decided not to expand until on pitch success makes us a more attractive day out for tourists.

    **** modern football

Just don't work outside of a 2 horse race in Scotland

St Johnstone won more trophies than Rangers during Gerrard's time in Scotland

There will be an enormous amount of bed shitting now on here, but I think we’ve always struggled more in these sorts of games than we do against teams that try to play a bit of football in our half.

We are missing some creative talent in the final third to break down a parked bus. Our attacking players are all a bit samey - quick, athletic, direct. Think we need a more technical option in there.

VAR was a bit frustrating, I thought the Ramsey thing was six of one, half a dozen of the other, and they should have just gone with the ref’s decision.

Mostly though, our plan didn’t work. We clearly had a lot of planned moves involving a central hall over the top, but Foderingham anticipated all of them. I don’t know if that was bad execution or a flawed plan, or Shef Utd working it out beforehand. Whatever, it didn’t work.

    Frustrating evening.

    Spot on

    We missed buendia tonight IMO

I think everyone saying it looks “American” are mostly think of Baseball. Most teams in MLB have a stylised monogram of their name that they use in their marketing; less so in other sports. Seems to be more traditional for Baseball. I think it can look classy if done right. The AV150 wouldn’t look out of place in this list:

Exactly, showed the 150 year anniversary logo to my graphic designer girlfriend the other day, and as well as being very unconplimentary of it as a design, first thing she said was it looks like a logo for an American baseball team

Ajax and Frankfurt are miles above what we faced tonight.

If we're still in the raffle for a Champs League place come March, doubt if Unai will use this as other than opportunity to give minutes to fringe players.

What would be the point ?

Everything in Emery's managerial history would suggest he'll take the opportunity to win a European trophy very seriously

For Emi we could be looking at a return to action as early as the end of Feb. I think a safer bet would be the end of March and the last 9 or so premier league games I imagine he'd be hoping to be involved.

Fingers crossed, but I saw him limping out of the petrol station in Mere Green about 6 weeks ago and would be very surprised by this

They cheated their way to their success when clubs like ours stuck to the rules… and they cherry picked us by cheating… and we suffered the most because of it… and he as “Mr Aston Villa” saw it all happening…

    He chose to join them

I think you're being incredibly generous by implying that Jack Grealish, who famously doesn't know what an encyclopedia is, would have any notion about any of that
