  1. West Ham owner David Sullivan has warned of 'riots' in East London if Tottenham move into the Olympic Park stadium after the games.

The Hammers have clashed with Spurs over a potential move into the 60, 000 capacity stadium in Stratford – just three miles down the road from Upton Park.

And Sullivan insists that a move from their rivals to the stadium could spark civil unrest among supporters.

“It would be such a slap in the face to East London,” Sullivan told the Daily Mail.

“If it happens, there will be real problems that could easily lead to civil unrest.

“I think there could be riots, such is the ill feeling between West Ham and Spurs and I know the police feel the same.”

Sullivan then went on to claim that Spurs “pinched” Eidur Gudjohnson from West Ham last season.

“I feel very let down by Tottenham,” Sullivan revealed. "The way they do business is not right.

“They pinched Eidur Gudjohnsen off us after we brought him from Barcelona for talks. He just disappeared from the hotel. And the way they unsettled Scott Parker was appalling.

“Now they want to move into our borough of Newham. How would they like it if we suddenly set up a new home in Haringey. I'm flabbergasted by the cheek of it.”

Meanwhile, Hammers boss Avram Grant is confident that his side will stay in the Premier League after their recent improved form.

“We are not a team to be on the bottom of the league,” Grant told Sky Sports.

“We are not heading for relegation. We play football to be in a better place and we will do it."

Couldn't find the West Ham thread so I thought I'd put this here

  2. Cheers mate

Back to cats - I dont mind them except for the **** that continually chooses to shit in my front garden

If anyone knows a non bag + brick + river way of dealing with this, let me know. :)

    Easy - it's called Dog! ;)

  3. Whats the etiquette in applying for a job via email?

By normal post it'd obviously be CV and cover letter, however a couple that have caught my eye have the only contact detail as email, so do you just write out the cover letter as the email?

I know that sounds fairly stupid but I've always considered email a slightly less formal method and somehow using an email as a cover letter doesn't quite seem right. But then neither does the more stupid attaching a cover letter as a seperate document.

In my experience, a two-line email introducing yourself and then CV and cover-letter as attachments is preferred. When it comes to printing out - you don't want an email header obscuring the cover letter.

  4. Cheers fellas. I'll have a think about it... the total is only just over 20 quid too. Gr.

You don't have much luck with cards do you Chindie :winkold:

Unlikely they'll sting you for import duties if it's only just over £20. I have heaps of stuff sent over from the US and Canada and it usually has to be nearer £50 for them to bother. At £20 it's too much hassle for them as the money they'd make back will be negligible. I think sometimes it's just down to luck though. I just received a package from Canada yesterday and it clearly stated on the export manifest on the envelope that the contents were $200 worth but it didn't get stopped for import duties.

  5. As a spin off discussion, how far are your commutes to work? Anyone beat 43miles each way?

186 miles each way but to be fair, I only do it once a week (there on a Monday, back on a Friday).

  6. (Note: I heard the other day the original Titanic sank because the geezer on the steering wheel was not up to scratch on turning it and turned the wrong way first, that's why they hit it. Only recently released by the guy's family)

    Completely OT but:

However Sally Neillson, the great granddaughter of Robert Hichins, has also been re-examining events for her upcoming biography of the quartermaster.

She says there "is no way on earth" the accident could be blamed on the steermaster.

Ms Neillson told Channel 4 News that the crew was recruited in Southampton during coal strikes. Competition for the six quartermaster roles was tough and they were chosen carefully.

"Hichins had 10 years experience, seven of those as a quartermaster. He sailed the Titanic for four days before the accident, during which he did shifts of four hours on, four hours off. He would have steered the vessel during these times, so been familiar with the systems. He knew ships.

"These were experienced men, a very experienced crew. I completely disagree with this theory."

Ms Niellson claims to have new theories of her own which will appear in her book - Hard a-starboard - due to be published before the centenary anniversary of 2012.

Other Titanic experts said claims about the steersman's orders have been made before, and that Lady Patten's is one theory among many competing for attention in the run up to the centenary of the disaster.

  7. the second Boardwalk Empire was decent too

Totally ruined by the quality of the d/l I got hold of. Choppy and sound way out of synch with the pictures for the most part. Downloaded it a few times and managed to get the same crappy version every time. Balls!

  8. The idea was to take people from the IT world who lacked management knowledge, and managers who didn't know IT, and produce "hybrid managers" who could see the "big picture", and thus break down the communication gulf that was perceived to exist in the industry - a sort of "technical MBA" if you like.

Chuffing impossible to get that balance right. I started out doing the hands-on stuff but spend so much time on the strategic and management stuff these days that I wouldn't be able to fix even the simplest of problems. Definitely need to find some time to brush up on my technical skills.

  9. Yeah I thought it was a bollocks rumour too considering I read this from him about 2 month ago.

I wouldn't say it's a "bollocks rumour" as I know I've seen him being a prima donna first-hand and it's clear that Kev Mac also had concerns about his application. Guess it's just good to hear from Kendrick that it might not all be quite as bad as we'd thought. I think ultimately there seems to be a perception that he doesn't put in as much effort as he could, rather than him having a bad attitude.

  10. Live blog on the Birmingham mail site today. Question to Matt Kendrick:

Is everything alright with Delfouneso? I know he played last night but he hasn't been around the squad or looking that sharp since the end of last season.

    Kendrick's answer:

I think Delfouneso is fine. I just think Kev Mac felt that Weimann deserved the nod over him at the start of the season before his injury. I think Delfouneso will get just as much of a chance as every other player under GH. I've heard rumours about him having a bit of an attitude but I don't believe it and have always found him to be a courteous, polite and grounded lad when I've chatted to him
  11. Chrisp has just reminded me of another time I tried to help the police.

I lived on the 3rd floor of an apartment block in Wales for a while. The place next door was huge and had been the mayors' house previously. One day I watched a bunch of guys emptying the place into a van but didn't think anything of it as the place had been empty for months. Next morning, there's police tape all over the place and apparently heaps of expensive stuff had been robbed. Later that day, when the police came back for a nosey, I wandered down to tell them that I saw the guys clearing out the place (I'd actually had a really good view of the whole thing and could have described in a fair amount of detail, the van and a couple of the guys). The young copper at the tape suggested I didn't bother telling his boss as it'd only mean a whole heap of inconvenience for me and the house was probably insured anyway. It seemed like he wanted to do me a favour by not getting me involved and that was more important that banging up the scrotes doing the rob. All very odd.

  12. Called them twice as far as I can remember.

Once as I was driving up the M1 and there was a kid who clearly had downs or something similar, wandering aimlessly along the hard shoulder with no shoes on and a carrier bag. They weren't interested.

Another time, I went to the Spar in Cotteridge late one evening and as I was getting back in my car, I saw three young guys breaking windows and nicking stereos out of cars at the garage on the corner of Watford Rd/Northfield Rd. Old Bill said they were very busy but would send a panda round when they could. I waited 25 minutes and the ne'er-do-wells were long gone by that time so I gave up waiting and went home.

  13. And I bet her house is three times the price of mine! Hail the valleys lifestyle, surrounded by smack heads, roiders and staffs running free, but the house is cheap as ****.

My Dad's originally from Swansea, loads of our relatives live there, my Dads cousin's a copper there, he's always got a tale to tell about the Valleys.

Neath, Merthyr, Aberdare and Treorchy aren't the nicest of places... theres a reason the valleys have the reputation they do. :)

    Still, cheap ass house.

I always thought Neath wasn't so bad when passing through it. Then I was taken to the Neath fair. :winkold:

  14. And I bet her house is three times the price of mine! Hail the valleys lifestyle, surrounded by smack heads, roiders and staffs running free, but the house is cheap as ****.

I know that. My gf is just outside Swansea and I can't believe how cheap her house was. Thankfully, it's not quite the valleys so we don't have to put up with what you do Chris but for the price of property down that way, I'm seriously considering jumping ship.

Aren't house prices relative to the standard of living?

I would say there is a link but it's nothing like close enough to bridge the gap.
