  1. I had been thinking given that the Saudis own Newcastle either officially or unofficially who could afford to buy united. I’m not basing this off the cost of buying a business as £6 billion is small fry really in business acquisition terms but more in the purchase cost + running costs + urgently required ground and training complex upgrade vs income return. I get that increasing brand value and potential future sale price might come in to it and the large commercial potential but to me it looks really tricky to make a good value return given the cost of all that’s required and that’s before they even sign a player or add to the crazy wage bill

You can feel it can’t you they get battered for 45 minutes and Dan James goes down like a feather and gets a penalty in the last minute

I'm curious, how exactly are the majority of workers dying? Is it the extreme heats or the working conditions in general like health and safety regulations?

All of the above I think maybe add in disease and malnutrition into the mix too. Hardly surprising that we are in this situation given that the award of the tournament was one of the biggest acts of bribery ever seen and from then on your in the pockets of these guys. No we are on the eve of the World Cup people are starting to arrive and the government out there are now changing what they promised. What a shock

The dreaded bottom for Christmas curse?

Oh dear oh dear oh dear, What a pickle

I remember the season we went down and we fell more than 3 points away from getting out the relegation zone. that’s when I started to worry knowing that even if you win your still in the drop zone regardless of other results.

im sure they will still stop up but I think it will be tight but I see forest and Southampton going for sure. Bournemouth will drop down I think and Leeds are still a very very poor side despite results the last couple of weeks so i expect them to be in the mix

Wonder if we could sign Kyogu Furahashi from Celtic. Decent striker and there are commercial benefits as well.

No chance nowhere near good enough. I think the champions league showed what a pathetic standard the Scottish league is. Add to that Celtic and rangers price their players as if they are English premier league players the value would not be there. You only need to look at Eduardo at palace to see how much harder it is to score goals in our league.

I wouldn’t look to ever a played from Celtic or rangers! Maybe hibs like we did with mcginn or hearts somewhere like that but not the old firm.

The high line isn't a problem when you have a sweeper keeper behind to mop up.

We didn't have that last night because of Olsen's performance.

I'm positive Emery has learnt from that. I'd be surprised to see Olsen feature again unless it's forced upon us. With Emi in goal the high line should be far more secure

Olsen was the opposite of a sweeper keeper. I don’t think I have ever seen a keeper so rooted to his line. First half balls landing half way in his box and still not coming to collect. I might be being critical but the first goal Bruno was 4 yards inside the area having ran from near the half way line before he crossed it and the last goal I think if that is emi in goal he collects that cross and smashed mctominey out the way

Maguire hasn’t let England down in the past, only reason why I think he’s there

Germany and hungry games say different albeit not a tournament game.

the squad announcement has left me flat as I expected it would. I’m pleased that Maddison’s in there because he deserves it on form same as Bellingham but you just know he will have Phillips having played 20 minutes all season and mount who other than against us has been woeful all season

  9. So anyone else thinking Southgate will pick a 4th choice Man Utd centre back, 3rd choice and not played 90 minutes for Man City holding midfielder and am injured and not played for 6 weeks Right back from Man City.

I hate the things. They always seem so dangerous to me. Surprised there aren't more injuries to be honest given how often we see players colliding with them.

    Hope the player recovers ok.

I would imagine he more likely collided with the concrete post that holds the boards. Wish him well with his recovery sounds like a terrible incident

Under Gerrard, both wing backs were pushing forward, same for McGinn and Ramsey, that means it wasn’t really anyone to pass to at the back, and we had to go long.

Under Emery, the back four, Martinez, Luiz, Dendoncker were available on our half, made it impossible for ManU to press them all, meaning there were always somebody available to pass to.

I remember the palace game at home last season sitting in the holte end and we were passing the ball across the back line and it found it’s way to cash and he looked up and both mcginn and Buendia who was on the right tucked right inside and cash had no options up the line which he was clearly looking for. He ended up trying to go inside to emi which got cut out and gave he ball away because everybody was packed into a tiny area of the pitch. I remember thinking that it must have been an arrow between mcginn and emi until it happened 4/5 more times in the first half until cash gave up and started limping it down the line into space. That’s when the penny dropped with her they gerrard was asking them to play like this and that he was actually tactically inept, it genuinely was the moment I thought this guy don’t know what he is doing and is out of his depth.

compare to Sunday and the players are finding pockets making runs offering themselves for a pass and a give and go. Amazing what a real coach with plans and tactics can do to a team getting beaten by Fulham 3 weeks ago.

You have to feel for them. They all got sucked in as kids because they largely just pissed the league all the way through the 90's and 00's, 99 champions league, class of 92 and all that bollocks. Now since Ferguson retired (some would say left them in the lurch, seen the writing on the wall and wanted no part of a rebuild) they are shit, bloated with a crumbling stadium and owners who use it mainly for dividends and as a vehicle to saddle debt onto, while trying to compete with oil nation states and other billionaires who are competent.

They've lost a lot and one of the few things they had left was beating us in the league and FAC R3. The look on their sad faces when they realise that the gamble they made as kids to support them and not their local team is coming back to bite them in the arse forever is brilliant.

Time to knock their sorry asses out of the cup as well. I bet we're not drawn together for another 50 years.

Love this post, I had many a mate growing up in the 80’s and early 90’s that supported Liverpool or Man Utd and you ask them why and you got the response “because they are the best” that used to really wind me up back then but in a way I used to feel sad for them because I had know idea how you actually enjoy football when you live in the midlands or London and support Utd because they win all of the time. Also nobody respects you when you talk about football if you say your a united supporter because your just a glory supporter.

it’s the same now for those little shits you see walking around with Man City tops, I wanna ask them if they were supporting them when they were scrapping through the league one play offs

Always said top managers doesn't need time .

I think it's an overused term to give an excuse to bad managers.

Sure good managers will improve on things over time but the idea of a manager needing years to put his ideas across to his players is a total non sense.

Gerrards needs a pre season. He needs a pre season they said. No. Turns out he is still a bad manager no matter how many pre  seasons he gets.

I completely agree. Gerrard does need time to learn what being a manager is actually about. Maybe he should watch emery a bit and he might learn a few things. The give them time thing is usually the managers mates trying to help them out or justify their position. I am not sure how much time we were meant to give gerrard? Presumably to the point where he relegated us and had us consolidating 14th spot in the championship but even that might have been to soon for some.

a good manager has walked in and given a squad of decent if not world beating players a game plan, belief and tactics. Look what happens! Even if you ignore the score and just look at the performance and belief of the players it’s like night and day to Gerard’s team.

Great game from Mings against ManUre. Not sure how he isn't in the England squad. Let's see who is above him in the pecking order:

    • Maguire (Didn't make the squad against us)
    • Dier (Shocking header leading to Liverpool's 2nd)
    • Dunk (gave away a penalty against Wolves)
    • Guehi (who?)
    • Tomori (Chelsea loanee number 247)
    • Coady
    • Stones

I'd pick him against the majority of that list.

If maguire goes (which he will) ahead of mings then that is a sackable offence in its own right. I would have loved Southgate to have been at the game to watch his 2 choices for centre back battle it out to realise one is an absolute beast who dominated a man with 498 league goals to his name. The other got to kick a few balls around at half time so Gareth can see what a good distributer of the ball he is.

how can we possibly take a player who is probably 4th or 5th choice for his club? We would be a laughing stock.

  15. Fantastic all over the pitch in terms of set up, application, work rate, mentality, attitude and skill. Other than 10 minutes or so before half time I felt we controlled the game completely and felt comfortable as soon as that third goal went in. I also have faith that this won’t be a one off performance, I really think this is that standard being set under the gaffer. Also I think worth noting the quality of the finishing for all three goals and yes digne free kick was superb but a word for me on Baileys finish on the run and JJ picking out the top corner first time. Lost count of the times I’ve seen us have a ball pulled back to the Penalty spot area and is not be clinical so I was delighted with that finish.

last point and I don’t really want to pick holes in how bad Utd were because I actually think we just outplayed them no more to it than that but. Ronaldo really is finished at premier league level, I have not seen many strikers look less threatening than he did today. It’s almost sad to see a once decent player looking so poor and past it but as it’s him I’m not going to shed to many tears 😂

  16. I am fully aware that he won’t come here even with emery as manager but in the mings thread the were suggestions of trying to replace him with Pau Torres. Just looking online it appears he only has 18 months left on his contract, it expires summer 2024
