That's one way to put it. Another way would be that he's played **** all the past 12 months. Bit pointless then having someone who supposed to be back up and played literally no football, how long should he be given to get up to speed? One month? Two? Five? The loan will be over by then
This
The Kalvin Phillips loan reminds me a lot of our Danny Drinkwater loan. A player who was instrumental in a smaller team, goes to a big club and falls to pieces before being loaned to a slightly smaller team to rediscover himself. It happens a lot but I really can't recall many times where this has actually been successful.

Could just be me, but this signing gives me Ashley Young vibes.
I had no idea who Young was before we were linked and when we signed him thought "meh, could be half decent" and the rest is history. If Roger's impact is even half of what Young gave us I'll be delighted.
Welcome Morgan!

As much as our last result stings, I wanted to bring some context into the thread as I have done a few times before (and will continue to do so until someone tells me to go away).
Our average PPG this season has now dropped to 1.95. Disappointing, yes, but still excellent and in any other of the last 14 seasons would be enough for 3rd on average. This figure is propped up by our early season form which is now being dragged down by the slump we are in. Lord Unai has pulled us out of a slump before and I trust that he will again. With that in mind, here's what we have to play for:
A repeat of all of last season's results for the remainder of this season would see us finish 5th on average which would (hopefully) be enough for a CL place this season but, if not, Europa League is still a great achievement. It just stings after being in the CL running for so long.
It's worth noting that, to achieve this, we'd win just six matches for the rest of the season, drawing three and losing the other 6.
However, if we can arrest the slump and maintain a PPG average of 1.95 for the remainder of the season, we'd still even be in the running for 3rd place, let alone 4th.
The season isn't over. We will recover. We can still get CL.

This is a big one but... I've never been a huge fan of the colours of our home kit. Claret and blue as a combo just doesn't look good to me.

This was the description of Leverkusen and Bundesliga fans about Leon Bailey when we signed him in fairness.
And they were spot on. He blew cold in his first season or so and he's been blowing hot ever since

I just thought I'd pop my head into this thread to scream into the void for a second about how we've not officially announced a crest yet. Is it just me that's getting a bit frustrated?

This link always felt like classic media tripe and this kinda proves it.
"Villa have reached out and are trying to make a deal happen but the player is desperate to sign for Fiorentina!"
Signs for Napoli.

Well, I might be in the minority, but it still identifies as Aston Villa to me. Thanks for the example.
No worries - and I agree with you. I'm far more concerned with how it looks in larger formats than how it might appear when scaled down to the size of Joey Barton's manhood.

I have no idea what it would look like, I haven't tried it, but it's definitely one of the reasons why simpler, flatter logos are preferred these days.
I've seen this mentioned a lot so I figured I'd mock it up. Thoughts?

Or they saw the backlash against the clipart lion and thought “well **** we can’t use that, quick have we got another version of the lion trademarked?”
Honestly, I don't care what led to this badge, only that we (may have) got here!

Picking up this thread again for a bit of perspective after yesterday's draw with Everton.
To reaffirm something I've mentioned before, on average, 71 points has been enough to secure a top 4 finish every season for the last 14 years.
Continuing with our average PPG this season would leave us with a projected total of 77/78 points so there is margin for error here. Repeating results for the corresponding fixtures for last season would see us finish with 70 points.
This means that, to finish in the top 4, we'd need to do one point better than our corresponding results for the remaining fixtures below.

If this is how the badge ends up then I'm happy. It'll be instantly recognisable, the detailing on the lion provides contrast against the light blue background, and it features our full name.
Add to this the fact a golden lion on the kit (as seen on socials) could look utterly sensational and we're in a pretty good place. A far cry from where we as a fanbase were last week.
Fingers crossed.

If it ends up looking like the badge depicted in the trademark, I still think it's a really poor effort. That said, the detailing on the image floating around socials is, frankly, gorgeous. That type of gold detailing across a kit would be all kinds of beautiful so I'm very intrigued to see how it all comes together.
My opinion of the trademarked image hasn't changed but this has, at the very least, made me slightly more hopeful.

That's what I've been saying all along. The design isn't bad at all. The colours and the drop shadow are the issue. It looks nice with a good lion that actually stands out with some contrast.
I actually quite like this. Feels like it adds far more weight to the badge so your eyes aren’t dragged down to the bottom (insert Kenneth). It also alleviates the contrast issue of yellow on blue.
Sadly, it won’t be this either because it’d look awful in smaller formats.

Pretty sure Adidas have made kits for small heath, Wolves, and West Brom recently, having them as our kit supplier isn't some indicator in of itself that we're some elite team already. I guess it doesn't really matter as long as people enjoy the kits, but for it to be some major deal as some are framing it as, we need them to be giving us some great money
Greatly depends on what tier we’re on, I’m certain.
As stated in another post in this thread, the teams you’ve mentioned only receive “standard” treatment. Basic templates, not a lot of money and only sold in national markets.
If we’ve landed an “Elite” role it’s a whole different kettle of fish.

I don't hate this but I still think the "AVFC" one was perfect. I understand that a lot of folks want "Aston Villa" on the crest but I truly don't think it matters when some of the biggest clubs on earth don't have their name on the crest (see: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, AC Milan and a host of others). There are smaller examples that work fine too, Wolves and Napoli for example.
At this point I just want a badge that isn't sh*t. Is that too much to ask?

One thing that truly annoys me about Emery's tactics, and reign in general, is that I cannot emulate it on Football Manager. It's the first time in my life I can't do any better than our current manager on a video game and that really grinds my gears.

Things are a lot rosier in this thread aren't they?
We're now back to an average of two points per game for the season after the Sheff Utd game with some crucial fixtures coming up. Our projected points total is now 76 which is generally enough for 3rd.
Obviously though, the focus remains on 4th or 5th. We currently sit on 46 points which means that, on average, we'd need 25 more points for 4th or 22 more points for 5th.
We went one better in the last game vs last season (drawing with Leeds) which means a repeat of all of our results from last season would see us land on 69 (/insert Kenneth) points with a record of W7, D2, L6 for the final 15 games.
