  1. O'Neill hits out at Nakamura link

    GLENN GIBBONS

MARTIN O'Neill reacted angrily yesterday to reports that he had approached Celtic with a view to taking Shunsuke Nakamura to Aston Villa. The former Parkhead manager was clearly irate over regular media speculation linking him with plundering his former club.

"I've been told this morning that I'm supposed to be interested in Shunsuke Nakamura," O'Neill said. "Let me tell you categorically it is a load of complete tosh. I have not been near Celtic for the player and I won't be.

"It's just too easy for people in the media to connect me with raiding Celtic for players, and it really is becoming a bit much. Be assured the latest stories about me and Nakamura are pure invention.

"I think people in the media simply guess about which type of player this manager or that manager wants and, in my case, make the connection with Celtic, and come up with fantasy. I'm really pretty fed up with it."

Nakamura drew admiring glances from English Premiership clubs when his brilliant free-kick inflicted a 1-0 defeat on Manchester United in the Champions League. He went on to collect a clutch of player of the year awards, but has also been troubled by inconsistent form.

Last week, Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell said the club was in a strong enough financial condition to be able to reject any offers for leading players such as Nakamura.

O'Neill was at Kilmarnock on the final day of the season, where the home side beat Hearts 1-0.

    Farewell to the Nakamura link.

  2. If you think Barton and Parker have rejected us without even speaking you are an idiot.

I could see Parker rejecting us if the rumours of him wanting to go back to London are true, but Barton rejecting us?! No chance.

The reason we are not in for them, if we aren't is because MON has someone else lined up, who he feels will be better acquisitions for AVFC than Joey Barton or Scott Parker. It won't be because they rejected us. Not a chance!

    Completely agree.

It was after all, from football365.

  3. If MON can get Sneijder I think he will move any player in his way. Sneijder is class and if he plays on the left then Barry can go into the middle and Young take care of the right side.

so where would we fit in Reo Coker and Petrov then ?

    Keep them in rotation.

It's better to gave a selection of good players for cover rather than one play per position and then having trouble when one gets injured.

  4. Van Der Vaart would be a massive signing. I would definitely be wearing his shirt next season if we got him. He's a very good player. Fingers crossed!

What shirt would he be wearing then?

    :winkold:

He can wear the away shirt, i'll wear the home shirt... actually with the away shirt being an 82 replica i'll probably want both... Claret and Blue body paint?

    Bwahahaha!

  5. As far as i'm concerned we only need three players,

    A fast goalscoring striker - Defoe/Bellamy/Bent.

    A proper center mid, a hard bastard - Sidwell/Barton/Parker

    And a right back - Jagielka/Young.

All the other players we will sign are just improvements on what we have. And I trust MON to make quality signings to push the current first team players out.

  6. You miss my point, I aimed it at Richard because he seems so confident of signing NRC.

    :P

I cannot see anyone else who would fit the bill and be available.

By fit the bill I mean be capable in that position, be able to improve (so have potential), be the right age bracket, be playing at the level, be ambitious, and who would not go to or aim for a top 3 or 4 side at this stage

Does Scott Parker not fit that mould? Lassana Diara or Mathieu Flammini?

I'm not disagreeing BTW, I just want to know how you can be so sure :P

NRC would be a fantastic signing.
