Jez try reading, in the arsenal match thread there were people before the game saying how we needed to change to 4-5-1 and after the game there were posts about petrov being poor.
-
haha
you should look harder, I think you'll find other posters mention our formation and what we should play and how petrov plays.
Then why ask the original question if you already knew the answer was 'no'. Seems a strange thing to do.
Because these things have been discussed and many people previously have claimed we can't play 4-4-2 and petrov can't play in that system, after another good win and petrov playing well again I wondered with these claims will be put to bed.
Didn't think it was that difficult to understand really.
-
Has the whole 4-4-2 with petrov doesn't work been put to bed yet?
I dunno, ask yourself your the one who mentions it every time we win!

A good result and keeps us right in the challenge for 4th which some will have you believe we're not in.
Well done lads and glad a forward got two goals.

1st half was pretty poor
2nd half was much better and we played some great stuff and should have scored more.
sidwell was pretty poor, delph was excellent and the fonz showed some truly awesome touches.
Shame albrighton didn't get to play the whole game and shame milner didn't get a rest.
-
Amazing isn't it? Also he continues to play a formation that doesn't work with a captain who can't play in that formation.
Can't believe how weak some people think the prem is.

I see it's the usual VT reaction when we don't win 5-0.
Performance wasn't the best but we had the chances to win it. People have complained about tactics and not changing things but our tactics and not changing things gave our top scorer 3 superb chances and he should have scored and we should have won the game.
I see some have now said top 4 no chance, does that mean Liverpool drawing rules them out? Man city losing rules them out? Spurs drawing rules them out? Blues for champions league then

The General has said time and time again that the funds are there if O'Neill requests them. I think the problem is not insufficent money from lerner, just O'Neill's reticence or inability to spend it on a decent striker. I agree that a £30m player is highly unlikely, but there has to be something between that and the £3.5m and £4.5m he spent on Heskey and Harewood.
you used to say that MON had an inability to sign a decent defender and surprise the better we do the better quality of defender we sign. I think after another decent season the next striker signed will be a level up than hardwood and heskey. Good premiership goal scorers are not easy to find or sign.

Anyone who was there have an opinion on whether Guzan was fouled on their goal?
It looked a foul from where I was sitting.
-
Played well although second half was pretty boring.
Delph was excellent first half so it must have been an injury that meant he was subbed.
Sidwell and heskey were poor, the Fons did some nice things but still didn't look fully ready yet.
NRC had a good game today and even managed a rocket shot.
Overall it was a comfortable win.

I agree - good to see subs just wrong ones IMO. Stan, who is not the fittest anyway, plays two full games in three days???
Do you think MON and the coaches paid a fortune and with years and years of experience working with football players are stupid?
Do you think if Petrov truly was as unfit as you claim that the manager and the professionals working at the club wouldn't notice?
Do you not think players have their fitness monitored throughout the season? Do you not think that at bodymoor heath they have technology to know the exact fitness levels of every player?
Do you think everyone should have the same opinion as MON?
I think it's pretty stupid for someone to assume their opinion is right and MON's is wrong. Especially on a subject such as a players fitness when MON has plenty of staff and technology at his disposal to determine such things.
Your the one narrowing it down to just right or wrong by asking stupid questions.
Its peoples opinion's its what they think right or wrong, if we all just bow down and agreed with what MON does (like some do) we might as well shut the forum down!
There are plenty of things people can have different opinions to and i don't think everyone should agree with MON all the time. However when it comes to something like a players fitness i don't see how anyone can think they know better, MON works with the players every day and as the general said they have state of the art technology now to monitor exactly what players are doing each match and i'm confident the men paid lots of money to be fitness coaches at a premiership club now more about the players fitness levels than someone with a season ticket.
Have your opinion, that's all well and good but if you truly believe that yours is right and MON's is wrong when he has all the advantages i've pointed out to help form his then i think that's being a bit stupid.

I like what MON is doing at Villa. I love the fact he is buying talented British players rather than buy foreigners which many managers do.
Yesterdays game was unfortunate and if anything showed that Villa just lack a Fernando Torres. Many teams do.
They may be talented when they arrive, but that soons gets coached out of them. Looks like it's happened to Downing already.
Yes it clearly that.
I must have dreamed
Davies being picked for the england squad
Ashley young winning young player of the year.
Gabby being picked to play for england
Milner being picked for england and gaining rave reviews in the media and pretty much booking his ticket for south africa.
Oh and the team actually doing well.

Sorry, you must be right. That Plop game away in September was two years ago and the Arsenal game that was last December I think was also two years ago.
you were the one who said the last couple of seasons.
-
I thought heyesterday's game showed up his main weakness again - an inability to flex the side for game situations.
We have played Plop and Arsenal (Big 4 sides that play 4-5-1/4-3-3) four times away in the last couple of seasons and got murdered in the two where we played 4-4-2 and won the two comfortably where we match up to their formation. Not hard to understand IMO.
So from now on MON should look at results 2 years ago and play the exact formation if we won the game regardless of new players he has purchased or new players the opposition have purchased, yes i'm sure that will work all the time for us.
Or are you just picking out 2 games out of 2 seasons worth of football to support your view?
-
Yeah i'm with you also, i mean if we'd done that then we might have actually beat Man U.
We did.
A point today is a must imo. It'll be very hard to get though - and we never seem to perform too well up in Sunderland. Good luck the Villa boys. And fair play to anyone travelling up to watch them on a cold Tuesday night.
I'm aware of that, just amazed that after winning some still think what we did was wrong.
-
I'm with you Stevenjos, I would rather see NRC play than Emile play out of position as a 3rd CM'er/part time striker
Yeah i'm with you also, i mean if we'd done that then we might have actually beat Man U.
I'd be delighted with a point today, it will be a tough match but hopefully we can get something from it.
Our current team has won 3 games in a row so i see no need to change things unless downing really needs a break.
Have to go 2 upfront and take the game to them.
-
I just find it very strange how some people 'support' this club, whatever floats your boat though U guess.
I find it strange how some can't seem to find any enjoyment from it. Even when we win and get fantastic results, there is always something that was wrong. Petrov didn't move 3 yards when he should have or NRC came on 2 minutes and 5 seconds too late.
-
god help us if we lose tonight - there'll be mass suicide!!!
I dread to think what it would be like if we were actually doing badly.
-
We just had one of the best results we've had for ages and on here we have a thread where people can moan about the captain, another thread making a poll of who is our worst player and now we can focus on any mistakes the manager makes.
Is it any wonder villa fans have this moaning reputation?
-
I see there are some who don't rate MON who have come on and praised the team so fair play to them.
I wonder if barrysboot and tro will come and give credit?
Also great timing by sting. What a week to return and carry on moaning like a d$@k. Maybe one day he will be right.
100% record against the top 4, 3rd in the league and semi final of the cup. Proud to have had faith in the manager.
Spurs - Arry's gone but we still dislike them...

I have no sympathy for woodgate at all, this can be considered karma for the time he and his mate decided to beat up some random asian lad.
