  1. I'm chairman of an American football club here in the UK now but have experience of the same role within a club in the Welsh pyramid.

We weren't spending my own cash, so slightly different to your scenario, but that of a group of small businesses who'd invested.

As mentioned above - expect to be fined for everything and anything. The leagues joke that its how they make their money but its true - a significant gain for them - I was fined £150 for being late to a meeting. When I say late, I was in the room but hadn't signed a form at the front!

You will get fined for anything they feel like, and as new guys on the block, you'll not be told an awful lot by other teams on how things are done - so expect the fines early to be higher than the ones after you learn the ropes!

But good luck - there's lots of little bits I can help with should you wish, drop me a DM if you'd like or ask on here - just quote me so I see it :)

  2. For me it's a 27 game season starting this weekend, and we need 36 points. We've got to be 100% behind him.

That is 9 wins, 9 draws and 9 defeats. That is a big ask IMO considering it's going to take him a few games to fully get his ideas across. I wonder if it's a step too far considering we've already dropped a lot of vital points from 'winnable' home games this season.

Could any of you see us winning 9, 10 or 11 games this season?

When you put it like that, it doesn't sound impossible. We would quite easily win one third of our games for the reason of the season. If we manage to string together a decent run from the Newcastle game onwards, we might be a decent part of the way there. I think its less likely we will get 9 draws - maybe 10 wins and and 6 draws is more realistic. Is it too early in the day to be drinking?!

I don't even think we need 36 points from 27 games.   That would take us to 40 points which is the magic number quoted around in the press. But the average to stay safe is around 36 points i believe.

So we actually need 32 points from 27 games.  8 wins, 8 draws, 11 losses.

whats there to worry about, that's *easy*

  3. My quarter-pole power ratings, by tier (and then ordered within tiers, but I'd be a lot less confident)

    1. Cardinals, Patriots, Jets
    2. Falcons
    3. Giants, Bengals, Packers, Bills
    4. Washington, Steelers
    5. Broncos, Panthers, Seahawks, Cowboys
    6. Rams, Eagles, Vikings
    7. Bears, Raiders, Browns, Colts, Chargers, Saints, 49ers, Ravens
    8. Titans, Dolphins, Texans, Chiefs
    9. Jaguars, Bucs
    10. Lions

Halfway through the season now (in general, I'd pick a team in a higher tier to win home or away over a team in a lower tier)

    1. Broncos
    2. Patriots
    3. Bengals, Packers, Panthers
    4. Cardinals
    5. Steelers, Jets, Eagles, Raiders
    6. Vikings, Rams, Seahawks, Chiefs
    7. Falcons, Giants, Dolphins, Saints
    8. Ravens, Bills, Washington, Cowboys, Browns, Colts, Texans, Chargers, Bucs, 49ers, Bears
    9. Jaguars, Lions, Titans

How does this work? Think the Jags look a little low, with being in the same division as Titans. They cant be below 49er. I actually like their offence.

I mean could the Jags get to the playoffs? crazier things have happened

I don't think so - even as bad as they've been, Colts are a better team and will probably go 6-0 in AFC South, again.

Also would expect that after Broncos this week and bye week the next, they'll have a lot more production out of that offence. Their defence has been OK to be honest.

I'm seeing the odds tumbling on them winning it all and I'm waiting for it to go a bit further - they've only been stuffed by the Bills (of all teams) in week 1 and I'd not bet against them marching on in the playoffs. Individual talent on that offence like no-ones business.

  4. What we need to do is develop a setup ready for January where hopefully we bring in a genuine #9 and a goalkeeper who doesn't remind me of Enckelman everytime the opposition attack and we can be ok.

We can't really afford to go more than 6 points adrift though I don't think - the next 2 games are 0 points thought anyway so a chance to settle in, but Everton, Watford and then the likes of Newcastle, West Ham, Norwich approaching in December we need to go at with what he believes is our best team in our best setup.

He'll have ideas already - its not like we lack individuals of quality.

  5. More places for people to buy stuff, is that really going to put Birmingham back on the map? A new train station that seriously addresses platforms, capacity and enables more services may be a good start, not a chuffing shopping centre.

From a tourism view, I'd say more shops would go a long way towards putting Birmingham back on the map. People go to Leeds/Liverpool/Manchester specifically for shopping, they make a weekend of it. Why shouldn't Birmingham get that as well?

My misses has never said "I want to go to Birmingham to go shopping" - I wish she would, I'd happily leave her there for a few hours while I take in a 0-2 home defeat to some London club seeing us shoot twice for the privilege and one of them being Gustede and therefore shouldn't register as a shot but a misplaced pass...

  6. Cardiff Central > that thing.

No fancy ass stores, no mucking about - just platforms and trains.

Plus a platform 0, so screw all you guys

I take if you've not seen the plans for the 'new' Cardiff Central then Chris?  They are putting a giant greenhouse on top of the old frontage and the BBC are moving in next door.  Nobody can confirm or deny whether there will be a Yo! Sushi in the new station.

not seen - but hey that thing will last about 3-4 weeks in that part of town before someone puts something through the roof

since they redeveloped the bay, the centre of Cardiff has gone to sh1t.

  7. Relegation is inevitable in my opinion.

We're a joke of a club not taken seriously at any level.

Even our own captain (at the time) - for his own reasons explained in his own thread - shafted us and laughed as he did it. If you don't think this club's royally dead, you're kidding yourself. Relegation might wake us, we might end up like Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest too.

The club has rotten itself through apathy, lack of direction, lack of foresight too it seems (did they think Benteke, Delph clauses wouldn't be leaked?!!).

We've replaced experienced Premier League quality players with unknowns - some have hit (Gana IMO is superb), some have missed way right (Veretout so far IMO)

I think there's now an acceptance from the owners we can never compete at the top end regardless of how much wedge they put in because they'll always be outbid by those up there, so we are now just slowly dying away.

But hey, I'll be there next year when we play Scunthorpe and Bristol City etc. Just gutted its happening right in front of my eyes and there's nothing it seems that's coming along to stop it.

  8. I read somewhere earlier that Kmac has said the confidence in the team us extremely low. I think this is something that has been apparent in the team for a long time (under Lambert and sherwood) and something that needs addressing. Do we have psychologists at the club? Surely that us something that needs to be brought in.

This is the thing they are paid a fortuine and act like absolute losers. Grow some balls FFS and stop acting like kids. Give your all for the club. What I dont understand is we have a huge squad. We should be saying to players if you play crap your out and someone else will get your spot in the side. Thats the point of competition and instead its accepted "THAT THEY "LOW ON CONFIDENCE"

its really irritating seeing grown men paid vast sums of money but play and act like losers

What's more irritating is attitudes like this that assume that because somebody is paid a lot, that automatically means they should be confident and motivated 100% of the time.

It doesn't work like that. The most professional players in the world are still affected by confidence issues.

its not just one player though is it Stevo?? You can hide and blame the managers as much as you like but you cant pussyfoot around these players, they have to take responsibility as we have been crap for a long time now performing like losers just like in the cup final

Im sorry that this"irritates you" but its the truth your paid a significant amount of money, fans pay to come see you show some heart, passion something to repay them and the players havw failed to deliver (again)

It's not the truth though Dem. It's something you've made up.

Money is not the only motivator.

Made up? Confused Stevo dont understand that at all. i havent said its just money but its a factor. players can only hide behind a manager for so long

It's a factor. THat's my point. It's only one factor, not the only factor.

So you can pay someone all the money in the world, if the other motivational factors are lacking then they won't be motivated.

You've proved your own point wrong there.

I think you misunderstood my point stevo, I meant money is a big factor but NOT only factor. I think they all need to just grow a pair of balls. Real men get the strength to overcome things when they dont go their way and we have too many fragile players at the club. Richards and Ayew have been the only players recently that I have seen that have shown heart and up for the fight. the rest are like cowards on the pitch. Senderos might not be one of the best players but man could he fire up his team-mates. We need players like that

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/glennllopis/2012/06/04/top-9-things-that-ultimately-motivate-employees-to-achieve/

I would say the first point is something we've been lacking for a very long time..

And point 3 should be the ultimate motivator here on in.

Theyre paid thousands yes (as per above) but so are their opponents.

The earnings aspect is negated as its a factor for both teams. Is there a difference between (really) £50kpw and £55kpw? Not in my mind. Do you not work as hard as you can in your job because someone in a different office is earning more?

  9. Came back the other day from hopping over to see Patriots @ Colts and Saints @ Colts - all this makes me worry about Monday night

    That could be NASTY.

Colts --> 0 pass rush (I'd be confident of standing in there and delivering a strike), throw it away from Adams/Davis and you've got a completion or a receiver led drop, and so long as you don't run it at Anderson on the DL, you've got a 5 yard gain on a run.

I've never seen such an easily dissected defense from a supposed 'Superbowl Contender' (as per pre-season claims!) - thank god for the AFC South and the fact the other 3 teams should be named Ginger Stepchild 1, 2 or 3 because that'll guarantee a career of playoff appearances for Luck - but they need to fix that damn defense

Patriots - very very effective, not as clinical as they have been IMO - just effective at getting things done they need to do. But yes, BORING.

  10. Watched the new Steve Jobs movie last week while on holiday in the States - don't know if it was the lazyboy armchairs or the fact it was only $3 a ticket but really enjoyed it.

Didn't think I would (wife's idea) - but got into it

  11. What if his staff just don't want to come?

I'd guess that conversations have already been held - we wouldn't have gone to their club if they weren't willing?

Can't imagine Lyon suddenly saying to the press we want them but can't have them if initial conversations weren't had along the lines of "are you up for it? if we work to make it happen will you come?"

As mentioned above, they've got a CL game, I'd expect if its to happen, it'll happen after that for them. If Garde does come in beforehand (as rumoured above...) then can safely assume we'll get them in too.

  12. Play Amavi, Traore, Grealish, Gana, Gil every week. By far and away our best 5 individuals.

Fill the rest with the best player for their position and if Richards doesn't want to play right back then tell him **** off.

Best two centre backs, best right back, fit the rest in and hope some **** scores some goals for us.

    Please :(

  13. I would imagine if it comes down to last game the Welsh players be petrified about **** it up. That would be a 3rd game to qualify plus im sure videos of Paul Bodin be plastered all over the media in run up to the game

For his sake Wales better get through tomorrow :P

**** that - his son now plays for our U21 team.

I remember that day like it was yesterday too so now I feel old as ****.

    **** it, party tomorrow :)

  14. Never been a fan of Coleman - didn't like the negativity he put into the side after Speed unlocked us, but he deserves praise for what hes done.

Tuesday night is going to be awesome, I don't think I'll even be watching the game. Been humming Zombie Nation for about 48 hours straight, plus side - its done my misses' head-in.

  15. That was some of the best defence I've ever seen there from Aussies. Phenomenal. What a side they are. They just look fitter, stronger, quicker and smarter than everyone else. Not bad for a country where half the kids don't even know what union is!

bang on the money for me - incredible defence.

said to the misses about 5 mins into that 10 minute period that if wales don't score in this time, they've lost. we'd only needed to have crossed once because the mentality would have dropped - however what incredible defence it was, best I've ever seen. Deserved win but IMO the best 2 teams in this group have gone through and in the order they should.

Can't see anything but a SH whitewash in the semi finals - purely because of the injuries sustained by Wales and Ireland along the way, and Scotland are way off the pace in comparison. France I think could win but I do think NZ will step up.

Aus - SA final for me.

  16. One thing I will put on the RFU here - if they're going to sack anyone, they need to do it fast. There is no reason to hold on to management - if Lancasters going, sack him in the Etihad carpark.

Same with Farrell, Rowntree, Catt, Andrew.

Wales failed to get out of the group in 2007 and the King Turk boarded his flight home unemployed, still in his beige suit.

Pointless dragging it out with reviews etc - this has been coming for 4 years. Time to prepare for the next one.
