You never know, it might get better. I rarely bother going to home games any more because I hate watching us lose. So far I've been four times this season, and haven't seen us lose yet (Notts County, SHA, Leicester, Wycombe). Some people like to go and watch Ozil and Silva; I like to go and watch us win.

get a season ticket then and do your bit, you're sending us down!

  2. First run was always going to fail due to the 75% internationals in the last 2 years thing.

The appeal is a box ticking exercise - we as a club should employ the right people to make sure we tick these boxes when the time arrives.

That's why he'll have no problem getting a visa to United or Liverpool - because they DO employ the right people who know how to use the rules to their benefit.

then we be playing 5 at the back every game or playing Debuchy further up the pitch maybe as a wide player

And? We look far more solid like that - admittedly we need goals but we're better like that (imo).

  4. lack of movement up top is painfully obvious - it reminds me a lot of Wales under Toshack - we used to pass it sideways, backwards as good as anyone - simply because we had no-one getting behind their defenders or making runs to get some space for midfielders to push up - why are we not going after anyone to fix this?

Simple point here - saying the seasons dead - yes - but the 2 penalties we should have had vs Leicester and WBA (if converted) would meant we're 6 points adrift of Norwich now with them to come to VP in a couple of weeks - we can get out of this but we need a front line who'll make some space.

Just a striker alongside Ayew - don't need 2 - come on Villa ffs :(

Thought you meant Ligue 1 and agreed....

league one in English terms is not close to championship level, at least not where we should be aiming for. Championship contenders as we've already said are basically able to compete with teams in the premiership.

a top player from league one can't just step in and mix it up in the premiership.

If anything we should be signing players that will benefit the squad now, with a view to topping the championship and comfortably surviving the premiership when we return.

Given where we are - we'll only get players who have no other option in this league now. That's why we've not got anyone - theyre all waiting for a better offer. I wouldn't mind saying we'll be busy on the deadline day as players realise we are their only choice and move on.

I'm meaning if we're wanting a player now instead of 10 days time, which theres no point really as no league games left this month they could play in - we'd be best off looking there - even mid table championship players wouldn't take it - see that Leeds right back as example.

That's risky but not a bad shout. Would still mix it with the best players at Championship clubs who don't really stand a chance of going up.

Although I would like to see who Garde can unearth from abroad as there must be some decent players that he is aware of that would be prepared to play in the Championship next season.

    That's my thought.

Gap of League 1 to Championship isn't a lot - so the best players in League 1 would mix it upper end Championship. And to beat out any contenders in the Championship - we offer them PL footie. In a Euro Championships year. So to a Northern Irish/Welsh player - that would be huge - admittedly no one will bust into the England squad like that but say that left back from Wycombe - would jump at the chance to play for us - it would throw him into the Euros and the kid can deliver a ball.

Reading the full transcript he states we spent £60 million pounds this summer (not NET obviously) but I will allow him that spin but he then states we spent £60 million the previous season................really?

Apart from the 5 Freebies we signed Cissokho for £2m, Sanchez £4.7m & Gil £3.2m, Bowery went for £250k and Ahmadi £700k.

I make that less than £9m not £60m

Ellis football accounting - we got rid of Bent (so 24m lost) etc etc.

  8. We drop this year, come back next year in 2nd.... flirt with relegation the year after but slowly climb to 10th, which gets hailed as 'great' for this club by media spouts like Lawro.

Lerner here, Lerner not - it wont matter. Unless a super billionaire comes in just to make us awesome that's where we'll end up. Natural order.

Perfect planning would be not leaving ourselves in this situation. It is money out the door that we will never see again or recoup. See Ilori.

Debauchy has proven quality in this league. Ilori never. If this goes through it improves us now. For what its worth, if we finish 18th to 20th, and he contributes to that, we're up £800k as a result.

  10. Disagree sorry Rodders - loan deals are pence in comparison - we get a player we couldn't afford outright (he cost Arsenal £12m didn't he??) - who improves us - and we don't get the fat contract around our neck when the inevitable happens.

    That's absolutely perfect planning imo.

  11. The guy will have a fair idea what he's doing.

The club maybe struggling but if you think Randy will put someone in charge of an asset of his currently worth £100m ish that's not qualified for the job then you're mad in the bonce.

I watched Tuesdays game again and he was absolutely outstanding. Completely dominated the centre of the park, was strong, work rate through the roof and I don't recall him giving the ball away once.

Best performance in a Villa shirt by far. On second viewing, my MOTM.

I thought he was absolutely superb vs Sunderland at home but yes agree this was his best so far.

Good to see because Leicester win a lot of ball in the final third so he needs a similar performance Saturday

Due to some fat-fingered phone use, I tapped into the pre-match thread for Palace away instead of home on Tuesday night and saw his name on the team sheet.  Was extremely excited for a few seconds...then I saw Gabby on there and realised I must have cocked up.

Would be wonderful to have him back for some of the run in.

would love it but cant see that - he'll be lucky to be fit for August

Every time I see his name on here I think who? then I remember some guy with a beard who looked out of his depth...or is that Richardson?????? ;)

im certain I read somewhere he's Joleon's cousin.

Went on a mad run beating about 5 players in the game I saw him in (Hull, FA Cup under Gregory) - and fell over trying to shoot.

If he leaves now he'll be one of very few players to have played for the first team in my time, who I've never actually seen play (live or on telly). I can't think of anyone else.

Don't know your age, but I'm gunna put a guess on not seeing Aaron Lescott play?

Must admit I have often thought Richards could play DM.  Such a powerhouse and makes great runs. That role we would help to mitigate his main weakness (positioning) and he'd be less of a liability, while also potentially utilizing his main strengths.  I don't expect this to happen but he could play a Sanchez type role IMO, particularly against stronger physical teams.

Positional sense is woeful though - but gets by on his athletic ability.

DM wont have that luxury a fullback does.
