  1. I've been in the office a few times this week so far, mainly to welcome a new starter and get him through the deluge of admin and introduce him to people etc.  I was in at 7AM today, thought about clocking off at 4ish and then someone grabs me and says "hey, can we have a quick chat".  The quick chat wasn't a quick chat at all and I ended up leaving at 5:30PM  :bang:.  If I'm working from home, we'd have chats but I set my status as offline come 4PM usually to deter this kind of thing.

  2. Better to get in early rather than panic closer to the time.  Lots of food will be fine for years, like this beauty for instance.  I once heard of someone who went mad trying to buy one of these for her daughter who was travelling home.  They had to get the friendly police to delay her at the airport and all sorts whilst they sorted it all out.

Wasn't the key stat the excess deaths compared to normal?  Lots more people were dying than usually would, I suspect many of those who died 'with' covid rather than 'because of' it had their chances of surviving lessened by having a respiratory disease at the same time.  The figure going back down to normal coincided with the vaccine roll out, I read in the Lancet that globally the vaccine would have saved 19m lives if you take recorded excess deaths as the best measure of covid.

The excess deaths were probably down to liver failure during lockdown.

    (I'm joking!).

  4. It's interesting that deaths due to COVID are rising apparently (compared with falling positive rates - lack of testing?).  Whether that is death by COVID or death with COVID is anyone's guess though (I haven't really looked into the data :detect:).

The fact that deaths are rising gives me reason to give caution if I feel a little bit weary or have a snotty nose etc before seeing my vulnerable folks.

That said, we're a long way off previous horrific numbers:
