  1. i think MON signed with assurances that LERNER would take over.
  2. should we start a countdown thread? lol
  3. thanks for the reply lads.
  4. this might be a stupid question... but assuming there is no other bid... whens the official day than Lerner takes over officially.. is it 21 days from yesterday? or did it start earlier? or is the 10 days? im confused. Will it be before the end of August?
  5. Lerner also gives us the oppurtunity to promote Villa and the Premier League in USA... and sell more shirts there.. more $$$... etc... Lerner just outdoes these other guys in so many ways. Id prefer a non Chelsea approach too.
  6. Where have you heard that? was on the icbirmingham.co.uk site i think
  7. AVo6 are getting a loan though arent they? stuff that. Piss off AV06. Lerner is the way to go. Cash deal. this is most important than all.
  8. if he gives us 10-20 id be stoked. Im just happy we have a young owner who has ambition. I would understand if he didnt want to throw his own money in.... and build our profits then spend big. As long as he doesnt do a Doug 'sell before you buy policy' On ya Randy!
  9. I dont know how to do it.. i add the large links and then i get told off for not shortening. you fussy bastards lol
  10. as long as he pays BIG wages... 60k etc.. so we can sign players cheap fee but wages wont be a stumbling block... as we have seen in the past
  11. Barry keen to stay - on his terms Aug 9, 2006 Gareth Barry wants assurances before he commits to Villa's new era under Martin O'Neill. The 25-year-old midfielder is due to sit down with O'Neill for talks at the club's tour base in Holland before the end of the week. Barry wants to know what direction the club is taking at boardroom level with American billionaire Randy Lerner primed for a takeover bid. Lerner is now in regular discussions with O'Neill and the No1 favourite to take control of the club. But it is understood the tycoon will invest gradually in players, with 'small' investments of £5m-£10m to start with, rather than a Roman Abramovich-style revolution. Barry is also desperate to force himself back into the England set-up under new coach Steve McClaren and wants clarification as to how he fits into O'Neill's plans. McClaren names his first squad next week for the friendly with Greece on August 16. Barry wants to remain a midfielder and doesn't want to play wing-back or a left-sided defender where he started his career under John Gregory if O'Neill switches formation to 3-5-2. O'Neill said over the weekend to say he is desperate to keep Barry. But he has only been given between £5m-£7m to spend by chairman Doug Ellis and he is aware he could almost double his transfer kitty by selling Barry. It has been suggested Villa will cash in on the experienced midfielder and Ellis is seeking £10m. Barry is unlikely to attract anywhere near that amount, with Portsmouth assessing whether to increase the £4.5m bid they had rejected three weeks ago. But I understand that the issue is far from cut and dried and Barry would still be happy to remain at Villa if he receives the assurances he is seeking. Meanwhile O'Neill's backroom shake-up is set to continue with Coventry goalkeeping coach Jim McDonagh set to replace Eric Steele. Garry Parker seems in line to come in for Kevin MacDonald. Assistant boss Roy Aitken is due to meet Ellis any day to agree a compensation figure. Adam McGurk scored the 90th minute reply as Villa reserves drew 1-1 at Hinckley last night.
  12. Lerner is said to invest 5-10 million pounds at first apparantly.. thats piss weak for a billionaire.. Id still like him to take over though as he will get the best out of the club.. ( as in run it properly) as he did with the Browns and now their the 7th richest NFL club.
  13. 300 pages... Doug is smooth with his transitions and signings.
  14. there must have been a reason for him to turn up... coincedently with Oneill signing. Heres hoping.
  15. crucified? why? he brought us Oneill.... Weve let him off the hook again...... villa fans are fickle... Oneill wont do much with Ellis in charge.. maybe a top 6 finish but wont be able to maintain it without spending something. Lerners gone... maybe he went to buy Luton Town. I dont think Ellis will be leaving.
  16. oh god i hope you guys are right... are we allowed to get excited yet?
  17. not sure if this has been posted... O'Neill ready to accept Villa job By John Percy (Filed: 04/08/2006) In pics: Most expensive British transfers In pics: Summer moves Your View: Premiership message boards Martin O'Neill will today be finally unveiled as the new manager of Aston Villa to end 2½ weeks of speculation that has added to the uncertainty surrounding the Premiership club. Martin O'Neill New beginning: popular choice Martin O'Neill gets the nod O'Neill has opted to become the successor to David O'Leary at Villa Park after receiving assurances that the club will be sold before the start of the forthcoming campaign. The former Celtic and Leicester manager has thrashed out a deal with chairman Doug Ellis and will be unveiled at a press conference today before flying out to Villa's pre-season tour of Germany. The announcement will end weeks of speculation over the identity of O'Leary's successor and it is understood that American billionaire Randy Lerner is also in closing in on a £64 million takeover. Villa play Hanover in a friendly tomorrow but Eric Steele, Villa's goalkeeping coach, will take charge after assistant manager Roy Aitken was advised to temporarily stand down on medical grounds. O'Neill will meet the players before the match and then mastermind the remainder of the three-game tour before returning to England. He is also understood to have made his own investigation into Rothschilds, Villa's bankers, as he attempts to gain every assurance of the club's finances. Loyal assistant John Robertson and Steve Walford are likely to follow O'Neill to Villa Park. His return to the frontline comes nearly 18 months after his resignation at Celtic on compassionate grounds. One of O'Neill's first tasks will be to convince midfielder Gareth Barry that his future lies in the West Midlands, with the England international growing increasingly frustrated at the club's failure to break into the Premiership top 10. Once Lerner's takeover is complete, O'Neill will be given an estimated £20 million in cash to transform Villa from shock relegation strugglers last season to a stable Premiership outfit. O'Neill is expected to sign a 12-month rolling contract and sources suggest that he has been assured of a transfer budget of around £20 million. But he only has a month to improve his squad after no transfer activity at Villa Park during the summer break. O'Neill cut his managerial teeth at Shepshed Charterhouse, Grantham and Wycombe before performing wonders with an average group of players at Leicester. O'Neill guided the Foxes to four successive top-10 finishes in the Premiership and two League Cup final triumphs. Then he went to Celtic in 2000 and transformed their fortunes in wresting Scottish dominance away from Rangers. They seem pretty certain Lerner will take over. 20 million pounds to spend... is that with Lerner? hmm.. not too bad as long as he pays for the big wages like he does in the NFL. Please let it be true.
  18. I think he would sign with Ellis there.. He will lie to Martin... just like he did with Oleary etc etc.. Hes a deceiptful old man. I hope Martin is signing with the knowledge of a consortium take over also in place....
  19. I said it when i made that rash thread about Neville.. but he is dodgy. Stay away Neville if you really are a fan. The fact that he wants to JOIN a rival.. just to COMPETE with Lerner and Still's.. just goes to show he does not have the fire power to compete and is just slowing down the process of one of those two completing a deal. This wont be completed for at least another week.. if Padfield is going on holiday.. he must be aloud to talk to Ellis too? Or can he go on holiday and Lerner buys the club then bad luck. Why no urgency? Lerner and Still - i wouldnt mind. The other two dont have the capacity unless they join bids... and if they do.. would be too many chiefs and no indians.
  20. announcement might be that Laursen had a reaction to his knee...
  21. petrov Oneills first signing.. geez the papers are jumping the gun a bit.
  22. id love to see Curbishley run Aston Villa with a bit of money to spend. He did superbly with limited funds at Charlton.
  23. Juve have just said were signing Micoli tomorrow.. between us and Benfica. has quotes and all... whos that bloke?
  24. Sign Milito.. hes ready made for the Premiership! he may not be one of the best strikers in the world but his game is built for the Premier League. I got like a 5 minute clip of his skills.. like a highlight thing.. hes very good. Good penalty taker too!
  25. none excite me really.. Distins good though..
