  1. Shame it is the international break coz whether it is true or not, it's about bloody time we unsettled other clubs. How many times does it happen to us. If true , I would be ecstatic , I said 1. Jol , 2. Moyes, 3. Sven = and I would take any of them. Maybe it is pure stupid hope, but you dont meet a poor bookie often !
  2. I'de like to see NRC try and put his hands around Keanes throat ! In fact, there you go, Maradona manager with Keane as his assistant !
  3. Gen I will tell you why we need a manager with a certain ilk - and to be honest, it worries me that you dont seem to know. I think it is pretty obvious that the better players you have, the better your chances of success. Not always, but in the main, you have good players, playing well, they will do well. Now, as we all would probably admit - Birmingham is not the sexiest of places. You may here the likes of Anelka and Henry saying "I want to live in London" - but I can't remember too many players saying "I want to live in Smethwick". We are also a "un-sexy club". We haven't got the worldwide name of Man U or Liverpool, so this doesn't attract players. Therefore, we either go down two routes. 1. Appoint what basically is a nobody (a Curbishley etc) and accept that we will sign Championship players and hope it works (and it can do, I'm not saying it can't - it's just a) bloody rare, usually short lived, ie: Ipswich, Charlton, Bolton etc) or Appoint a manager with "a certain ilk" who is known Europe wide, and has a name that can attract players. I wouldn't mind betting that if Jose Mourinho took over at Aldershot - he could attract a few names. Well, perfect example is Sol Campbell going to Notts County isn't it !. That is why I feel we need a certain ilk !
  4. No matter what the manager is like, you cant back down and grovel for him to return. Even Chelsea wouldnt do that for Jse - it would be suicidal ownership. The one thing everyone agrees on, no matter what your view, is Aston Villa is bigger than any person - try and ask him to return, you are showing the world they are ! Seriously, I sometimes wonder what people think about on here, is everyone 15.
  5. Everton passing - are you having an absolute giraffe !!! Everton are as much route one as Wimbledon ever were. Usually, hoof to Fellaini, or corner hoof to Cahill. Dont get me wrong, wish we could do it as good as them, but dont make me laugh by saying they play football ! Edit and Spurs played hoofball very very successfully last year
  6. Who cares, as long as you win. One of the last games of last season, Friedal hoofed the ball, Carew flicked it on, and was it Gabby , ran on and stuck it in the net - total route one. Was you slagging them off ? If it works , fantastic !
  7. They did , it was called Hull City ! And, for that, personally I think Phil Brown is 100 times a better manager than Mowbray. I cant believe people think Mowbray would be a good choice - laughable !. I'd rather have DOL back !
  8. Not too often we agree with each other, but I also agree. Put it this way, I am not saying we would do better with Allardyce, but I don't think we'd do any worse either.
  9. This Koeman chap - I dont know ? It sounds fantastic - Ronald Koeman, one of the best Euro footballers of our generation. And, if you look at the stats, he's won suff as a manager. But I've just read wki - and when you actually look at it, it is a bit repeatative, and alarming. Basically, at every club, he took over a superb side, usually Champions. Won something in his first season with the predessors team, then had a steady decline , where he was sacked, moved to the next side, where the same happened. And seems to have happened 5 times so it seems a bit of a co-incidence. I want the right man, not just a great player, if all we want is that, you can't get bigger than Maradona !. Still think Sven is a better option !
  10. Can you listen to yourselves. There will be bluenoses / man city fans / newcastle fans on their forums at the moment absolutely pissing themselves saying stuff that people usually say on here about someone else "eh, do you know who them brummie f...wits are saying they are gonna get - hitzfeld - they couldnt even afford hitslesperger never mind Hitzfeld Do us a favour - it is bullshit ! and is making a laughing stock out of us !
  11. Anyone want to call me a drama queen tonight ?????? Wake up and smell the coffee That fecking guy with RELEGATE US !!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Remember the other day I said, not speaking about game, that would be temper. Well today I will sy stuff , sorry if it hurts - its the truth I got my first St in 1983 at teh age of 12. I have been one ever since. In 2001 I got my daughter, then 3 a ST and she still has it, in 2003, I then got my son one, then 3, and he still has it. For three years I have said, you are pricing people out the game, the kids ST's have gone up stupidly for the past three years, but I paid it, as I was in a position I could afford a holiday abroad (what my wife has as the trade off) AND the ST's. Well, after coming back from the USA Wednesday last week, my wife and I spoke and agreed we could not afford to go on holiday next year. I am telling you this General, in 2006, I was at the end. I was finished with the Villa, after 23 years of being a ST holder, and 27yrs of going, I'd had it. But you, Randy MON came in and told me it would be different. Quite frankly, I don't believe you lied, I think the situation has changed. However, I DO feel you are now taking the pee out of us - as everyone has explained above, and , more personally, starting to blame the fans for not turning up ! To me, and I was right with DOL and MON - you blame fans - its only a matter of time. Sort ir, or else this season ticket holder of 27 years will be lying on a beach in greece next August instead of being at Villa PArk I am RAGING tonight after that ! Oh One plus point. I was impressed with the healthy option store in the Holte, only had an orange juice as I'd already had my tea - but I wll use it in future. However, If all I want is a good sarnie and drink - I'll go to Subway !
  13. General After my post yesterday, I would like to register my interest in the vacant managers job. I WOULD love the fans to chant my name "PaulAndy, PaulAndy - you're the greatest, the holte end say" - magical I don't want to be invisible. I like speaking to people. What I want is 40k per year - not week, expenses to get to and from Brum (£20 a time) What I can bring to us is passion and I know who shouldn't ever wear the shirt again What I WILL NOT do is Put a right back at left back, put a centre back at right back, put in two central defenders that have never played a competetive match before. Play a goalkeeper that has never played with that defence before. Put a winger up front. Then, if it goes wrong I WONT put a centre back a t centre forward, and drop an attacking midfielder back to cover the defence as the right back hsa had to go back to cover the centre back - leaving no right back. Do I have a chance, because I am telling this - I bleeding deserve it more than the guy you have appointed - I'm telling you that for nothing. Disgraceful I then get home to read the bombshell that is "Villa state Heskey is not for sale" Can it get worse - you bet ! - you wait until Sunday ! I have defended this board from start to now, I have never waivered, I blamed O'Neill totally. However, if you do not see / or cannot be bothered to put this right = then I am finished with the board - at least with Ellis we were guarenteed mediocrity - I am now wondering whether we will get this !
  14. In fact you point proves the fact. Name a "quiet" guy who has succeeded / stayed in the premier league. Little did it - quit due to stress Coppell did it - quit due to stress Adams did it briefly - quit due to stress Frank Clarke did it - dont know he quit or sacked, but he was shit Jesus, even the great Kenny Daglieish, still I think the only manager to win it with different clubs - quit with stress ! and on..... You CANNOT be a quiet guy in the premier league - in this country the press know what toliet paper you use, abroad, the premier league don't get ni-on a billion quid from TV stations to say "Sorry, he doesn't like the limlight so he won't do anything for you" Face it - KM is not management material, and if he gets the job, whether he gets 100% backing, or 0%, the outcome will more than likely be the same
  15. i have just had a fecking brainwave we need a short term fi until a suitable candidate comes along. KM likes coaching but not the spotlight. Who did he work for...... Brian Little and John gregory KM wants to coach, Gregory LOVES the media, Little likes managing but struggled when Gregory left and had to do it all himself. FECKING BINGO We've got no money for players (apparently) we gotta dowith this lot. SOUNDS FECKING PERFECT TO ME Only downside is Little will probably play sodding heskey !
  16. Very very naive What have the players said about Capello recently ? We love playing for him, we love this, he's great at that. Sorry, but you are being very naive if you think this is all it takes to be a good manager. Forgive me, but what was the back page of all the papers this morning. Capello with Donkey ears. What was the opinion of all the experts (including ex-managers including the one who saved us from oblivion) "This is the end - when the media turns, it's only a matter of time !. He could be a better coach than national Epress - but if he don't like the spotlight - he will end up not only sacked, but in The Priory !
  17. Why am I alarmed. I'll tell you why According to rumours (yes rumours) and I have been at work so haven't seen anything on the telly. We are just appoint a manager who admits he doesn't like the job we are going to give him. I am a manager - I have to motivate people, and I tell you how I don't do it. I don't say, I have to talk to you instead of watching you !" and I don't say "I wish I was invisible" implying "I don't like it when people see me / want to talk to me" and I don't say "I really don't know if managing you is actually what I want" God almighty - are there seriously people who can't see this ? I can't think of the song, but it couldbe our coming out music if we give him the job... what is it "I would, rather be anywhere else but here....tonight" Whats the bloody record ?
  18. Well I just pray you are right ! I take it Ajax won tonight ?
  19. Whatever we paid him it would be too much. In ANY business, if you were a manager running interviews and you had a guy come in and when you say - "why do you want to join my company" they said "Well, I'm not too sure I do, I don't know whether I will like it really, I prefer doing another job" etc....... Would you employ him ? Sorry, it's so bloody obvious it is ridiculous. Best of it - imagine the players reading that he prefers training the reserve side instead of them ! Bloody hell - that interview is ALARMING !
  20. I have just posted on the Gens thread That interview sounds more like a guy going into depression than one just been offerred a multi millionpund a year job. jesus christ - it will be suicide if we give it him, for us, randy and him ! Who is gonna be his backroom team - Collymore, Merson and Adams ?
  21. Gen I have just read an article, with quotes from Kevin mcDonald regarding his position (on the next manager thread) If these quotes don't prove he is NOT the man for the job - then nothing does. I'm not ebing funny, but when you read them, it sounds like a guy with depression ! "I like being out there twice a day and previously with the reserves I could do that. Now it's a case of once a day and then speaking to everyone else. It's the peripheral things that I've found difficult to get used to because that is a big thing about being a Premier League manager – it's not the football, it's all the other stuff on the outside." "I don't enjoy the fact that people might say good things, because I know somewhere down the line they might say bad things," "I don't want [the supporters] to chant my name " "If I could pick a team and be stood there like the Invisible Man, I would be quite happy with that." "The most important thing is the football team try to win matches. And that might be something I might not be able to come terms with, so it might make me walk away because Premier League managers are very high profile now. I don't want to be high profile. But I'm not saying I don't want to be considered for the job." Jesus christ Gen, if that is the kind of guy you want to run your company, then god help you !. If you appoint Kev.Mc - it will be a disaster for the Villa, it will be the end for you and randy with the fans, and the really sad thing, it might do damage to Kevin McDonald personally. PLEASE see it ! - coz if all the reports are true, I cannot see how a guy who has accumulated nearly 1 billion dollars could be daft enough not to see himself commit financial suicide ! EDITED Just as strange, just saw another interview (or maybe a different bit of the same one) saying KM is meeting with Randy on Monday to discuss his future / whether he will get the job. so a) We are gonna appoint him, which puts a question over whether we are actually looking as you say we are We are looking and KM is being led-on, when he has no chance c) We can't get anyone and gonna settle for KM. But thats wierd as Sven and Bob Bradley have already said they are interested. I know Sven has his critics, but surely he has a better CV and credentials than KM ?. So the only thing I can think of, is his wages. If it is this, and I amjust thinking aloud, then it has always been one of the things that I could never understand, the Villa will pay £20 million quid buying Curtis Davies ans Stewart Downing, but "may" be unwilling to pay - what 5 / 8 / 10 million over about 3 years to get the most important person at a football club You probably can't answer - but I wonder which one it is ?
  22. At least the catering would take a budge up...... ..... Oh no, thats Frey Bentos isn't it ! Who the hell is paulo Bento ?
  23. Gen sorry to post 3 times but I must raise this. 3 seasons running you have drastically increased the prices for children, and three years running I said we will suffer in the long run. I know many people who used to have a season ticket for them and their children - and due to the increases, dropped the kids ticket and "picked" games for them So sorry, you were warned ! On below- lighten up - it was a joke - and a funny one at that !
  24. Well, we could hire christ - I'm sure by the time he got to the end of his management stint we'd be crucifying him. It will be the first time since laursen retired we had someone on the end of a cross though !! - has to be a thought
  25. If we will paythe 10m compo it will take (and i can't see why on earth you would pay more than that for Downing and wouldn't for a manager, the most important person at the club For me it has to be 1. Martin Jol 2. David Moyes if we won't 3. Sven 4. ranieri 5. WER'E **** IF WE DONT GET THE ABOVE FOUR !!! Peter taylor - if it is possible in Heaven, he would have to resuurect Brian and transform themselves circa 1976 and I might think about it - or are you suggesting the other one ?
