  1. ???? What makes me think Kuyt would come to Villa - is that a serious question ? Players will go where-ever and who ever wants them as long as they get what they want in their wage packet !. Ask a certain No.6 we used to have !. No one is saying these players would come, but if you don't try. I'm pretty bloody sure I know the reaction on here last week if someone had suggested Robert Pires might have been interested in Leicester !
  2. Here is one for discussion - I would be 70-30 in favour , but I'll give the reasons. Liverpool in financial dire, quite a few going to be available. How about Kuyt ? Everytime I have seen him actually played in the middle - he has scored !. Problem for him is Benitez always stuck him anywhere but the middle. When Torres got injured, he was played up and scored very regular and put Liverpool back in the top 4. Torres come back, Kuyt was back on the wing, and they collapsed. I think he will be cheap(ish) - 6-7m probably and I just think given the chance could do it. That Dutch goal the other day summed him up, a tap in from 1 yard , but he reacted far quicker than the defender who had about 2 yards on him to get there. Worth a thought. Also, for exactly the same reason is Babel - although not quite sure he is a natural goalscorer By the way. I haven't a clue how old either of them are.
  3. Bloody hell Paul, Paulo Rossi was one of the great players of all time. Apart from some accusations of match fixing and a three year sabbatical. Rossi played in the Juventus side that beat us in 1983 at Villa Park. Never knew that, you are right, you just never heard of him after that world cup , however, euro football was not covered half as much then, and as his later years co-incided with the ban of English teams, I suppose Euro football never got the attention. Schilachi though , and Roger Miller , Savo etc... just show that an average player can look a world beater over a 4 week period.
  4. Was Heskey setting the world on fire? MON still signed him. And is that supposed to be a good thing ? Judging anyone on World Cup is ridiculous. Wasn't Savo top scorer at one not long ago , how about Paulo Rossi , Schilaci etc...... Put it this way , on watching the World Cup so far - we need a forward , one looked superb , strong, kept the ball, set up a goal, held the ball up...... - I think his name was Emilio Escha I think. We shoudl look at signing him !
  5. I dont know - you ask them ? Maybe for the same reason Spurs sold Bent - maybe he wasn't good enough to score maybe the same reason Spurs want to sell Keane - there could be a million and one reasons - teams sell players ! Just remember - Ruud Van Nistlerooy was out for over a year before he joined Man Utd ! Having a bad injury is not the same as being injury prone. Bad injuries - Shearer / RVN , Downing / Delph / yakubu etc... Injury Prone - Laursen / Owen / Anderton etc...... And he played 21 games this year (mostly as sub I grant you) so he has played ! and even though these were subs, he still scored more than Heskey ! Yakubu is a goalscorer and a) we need one , there aren't many about If you want to buy players like Rodellaga and Doyle , who have had one (quite average) season. Fair enough, but dont start moaning when we fall short again !
  6. 219 appearances in England by the age of 27 Very injury prone. He has just come back from a serious injury - that is different. Of is Fabian Delph, Stewart Downing or even Wayne Rooney injury prone as well
  7. Oh just leave it AVFC. Listen - dont listen to to me. Go on any website you like. Skysports , Evertons, BBC, ITV, Wikipedia Have a look at his figures. Whether you agree or not THEY ARE THE FIGURES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So just drop it ! In fact here you go (a complete cut and paste, I didnt do it like this originally as , as you will see, it looks confusing, but here it is for you to enjoy) 2002–03 Portsmouth First Division 14 7 - - - 14 7 2003–04 Premier League 36 16 4 1 2 2 - 42 19 2004–05 30 13 2 2 3 2 - 35 17 2005–06 Middlesbrough Premier League 34 13 7 4 2 0 13 2 56 19 2006–07 37 12 8 4 - - 45 16 2007–08 Everton Premier League 31 15 1 0 3 3 6 3 41 21 2008–09 14 4 0 0 1 0 2 1 17 5 2009–10 21 5 0 0 2 1 8 0 29 6 Total England 219 85 22 11 13 8 29 6 277 108 Career Total 213 82 22 11 13 8 29 6 277 108 So it is either 85 LEAGUE goals in 213 appearances in England or 108 CAREER goals in 277 CAREER appearances Now please accept it !
  8. Even though I think if sold, Milner is replaceable quite easily - I don't want him sold, due to the message it sends out to other players. Reading all the above, and maybe being very niave, I honestly can't see Milner going for the money. He has just broke into the England side, this after getting the Young player award. If he develops at a club in the right circumstances, he could go on to be a Lampard or Gerrard. If he goes for money, he could just end up being a bit part player for a club who are just playing a real version of Football Manager - and don't actually care about the actual player - you only have to look at players like Richards for that. So, even if they offer 125k a week, I just don't think Milner is of that type to take it. What this may do, is open him up to other clubs like Arsenal - and that may be a different matter. But City, I very much doubt it. Barry was different, that was his last big pay day - Milner still has that to come in 5 yrs time I think he will stay on an improved contract of around 75k pw
  9. Klinsmann, Zola are two that spring to mind.......... Vialli and Gullit did ok as well And Laursen (Henrik - dont think you spell it that way) , and unfortunately, Dugarry !
  10. Those figures dont even add up to 85 :? Because I just put in his premier league stats. The other season was his first for Pompey - 14 games , 7 goals in the Championship so add that one for the complete total. But, again, those stats just make it even better as the one I left out was a 1 in 2 record !
  11. Fair enough I had the same argument with you over Bent I had the same argument when we bought Heskey Now, apparently, the same people are saying that it doesn't matter if we had Rooney and Ronaldo up front , they get no service, when we have James Milner (apparently the next England captain) , Ashley Young (young player of the year) and Stewart Downing (England regular until injury) supplying them. I mean, if the midfield is so shit - why did one start for England on Saturday and one get voted young player of the year - fecking beats me !!!! Face it - we need a bloody goalscorer - not a guy who can run the marathon in 90 minutes - not a link man - we have one of them - IT DOESNT WORK !! WE NEED A GOALSCORER We missed out on one. Now, unless we are gonna pull off a miraculous signing of Drogba or Anelka - there isn't many out there. And if you would sniff your nose up at a guy who has a 1 in every other game ratio and even though he came back from a career threatening injury in January got a 1 in 3 Then - sorry guys - you lot are gonna be in for one hell of a disappointment Goodnight, I'm off to bed
  12. I said Premiership. Can't you read? :? Also, I know he scores goals, maybe perhaps some of us believe that goals aren't everything in a striker especially if the player is overweight, doesn't work very hard, isn't exactly a team player i'd say and contributes little but 12-15 goals a season (on a good season)....for me I don't see any difference from what I see in Carew than Yakubu. Yeah goals but most of the time, very fustrating, unfit and uninterested. Right, so on page 135 you say this Then coz I show you are wrong, on page 137 you say gabby and Carew scored more goals overall - please make you mind up - you are making yourself look silly Gabny 2009 - 2010 - 13 LEAGUE goals (which YOU are going by) Carew 2008 - 13 LEAGUE goals both their BEST figures - and we are talking Yakubus WORST -and they are the same !
  13. Talk about a short memory. Gabby beat that last season. As did Carew in 2008. WooooWoooooo !!! So now you are talking ALL games - I wish you would make your bloody mind up ! Gabby got 13 league goals last year - it is YOU that said "I MEAN IN THE LEAGUE" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. bearing in mind a good forward nets 15 goals per season (League) - this magic figure of 20 is rarely got and if so, only by real quality or a real scorer - ie Ronaldo, Shearer, Drogba, Bent etc... And Gabby 23 having scored 45 league goals. If he scores 15 a year - which we would take like a shot giving on it has been done twice in a Villa shirt in 17 years - he would be nearly 29 when he hit the goals yakubu has That shows how impressive Yakubus goalscoring record is !
  15. It isa not cheating figures, I cutted and pasted. But which one are you on about - goals per season - which means he has scored more goals every season in England apart from the two injury hit ones , than any other Villa player apart from Peter Withe and Dwight Yorke Or premier League goals Which means he has scored more than any other player than Dwight yorke or Peter Withe. Coz whichever way - HE SCORES GOALS In fact, go on the stats - if you want premier only - ITS EVEN BETTER !! Cheers for that 219 permier games - 85 goals comprising of 16 in 36 13 in 30 13 in 34 12 in 37 15 in 31 4 in 14 5 in 21 So I reckon his worst real season of 12 goals has only been bettered once in one season by Juan pablo Angel (16 goals) and one by Dwight Yorke (17 goals) since the season 93-94 when Deano got 15 ! Yes - truely shite yakubu is !
  16. Well obviously cancel first division goals. Also talk about cheating the records. You've counted Premier League games but then counted his goals in cup competitions. His actual record is: 03-04: 36 games, 16 goals. 04-05: 30 games, 13 goals. 05-06: 34 games, 13 goals. 06-07: 37 games, 12 goals. 07-08: 33 games, 15 goals. 08-09: 14 games, 4 goals. 09-01: 21 games, 5 goals. I don't think saying he's likely to get 12/13 goals in a league season is unreasonable, considering he is likely to pick up injuries and isn't exactly in great shape.
  17. Sorry AVFC but what planet are you on ?? You dont know how old Yakubu could be ?? Do you really think the Immegration service / various government departments / department of work and pensions / Fifa , FA and every other authority (including police as he has been done for drink driving) don't do checks on these matters ? Yes people joke, but you surely don't believe it when people joke they lie about their age. Do you really think Arsene Wenger bought Kanu not actually knowing how old he was ? - you really think he is that stupid !And you are just being stupid now coz you've lost the argument - "I bet you think Yakubu is better than Rooney" - Yeah, hes also better than Ronaldo, Torres and Messi as well. He is 27 , he is a quality goalscorer , he is available at a cheap price and he is better than any player you have just stated amd certainly better than Emile heskey , and Gabby Agbonlahor. Carew - different, Carew has the ability to be better, problem with Carew, he hasn't got the hunger to be Now - stop being childish !
  18. 2002–03 Portsmouth First Division 14 games 7 goals 2003–04 Premier League 36 games 19 goals 2004–05 30 games 17 goals 2005–06 Middlesbrough Premier League 34 games 19 goals 2006–07 37 games 16 goals 2007–08 Everton Premier League 31 games 21 goals 2008–09 14 games 5 goals 2009–10 21 games 6 goals Total England 219 games 108 goals There you go - his record. 19 goals, 17 goals, 19 goalsm 16 goals, 21 goals, 5 goals in 14 games , 6 goals in 21 subsitute appearances. Now they are the stats - not made up. Where are you getting this 12 goals a season from, as from what I can see , apart from his last two (where he sufferred the same injury as Bouma and still came back to score a ratio of 1 in 3 from the subs bench) , he hasn't failed to score less than 16 goals. Oh and by the way - take out the last two seasons and he would have a ratio of BETTER than Drogba. And . although I cant find this, I am pretty sure he has scored more Premier League goals apart from Henry and Van Nistlerooy - sure I saw that somewhere. Name me a better player we can attract for the money we got. I had this exact argument this time last year over Bent with you - what the hell have you got against forwards that score goals ? tell me - coz I cant see it
  19. Yep - I'll take a lazy shit who will score shed loads of goals cheers, Would make a bloody change from the likes of Angel that would cover every blade of grass between Birmingham and Edinburgh in 90 minutes apart from the actual bit that mattered - the 6 yard box !. I always remember a priceless comment around 8 years ago from about 3 rows in front of me on the Holte. "You can F*** off Dublin , you do F*** all apart from score" That sums up Villa fans to a T that does , would prefer a hard working journey man, to quality that wins games. By the way, talking of Lazy v talent. Can you name me how many shots Drogba had in the Semi Final against us , or in fact , any contribution he made. Answer He did sod all until he put the ball in the net. AND Torres v us , exactly the same at Villa Park Forwards are not paid to work their socks off. Forwards are there to win you matches. maybe that is where we differ, some idolise Angel - to me , he was a waste of space - I idolised Dean Saunders , Peter Withe, Andy Gray and Dwight Yorke - forwards that scored goals !
  20. Yes it is, I thought this was the transfer thread where we are supposed to discuss players we are not linked with, because if we are, there is a speculation thread ?
  21. Fact 277 games - of which all but 14 were in the Premier League or cup games 108 goals Now sorry mate, but that is IMPRESSIVE He also got 21 goals in 41 goals for Everton 3 years ago. so where you get 16 goals from I dont know. Maybe you are talking Premier League only. So if you are, name me the last Villa player to get 16 league goals in a season ? - maybe Dwight Yorke did, I dont know, but certainly Peter Withe So Yakubu 3 years ago scored more goals than any forward has for the Villa in 30yrs And you wouldn't want that What the hell do you want Messi and Ronaldo ! Oh by the way. he also got 5 goals in the league last year from 21 virtually all Substitute appearances - which was only 6 behind Gabby who played every game ! or another way, 3 years at Eberton , 68 games of which 20 ish from the bench, 28 goals. Hmm - seems to me you are slightly underestimating Yakubus ability - surely you can see that ! Not bad really for a fat, washed up injury prone has been really is it !
  22. Well as you are in Ireland, would you like me to get you an invite to the Graham Norton show Edit Oh , just seen you said Hetro ! - sorry, hope no offence taken ! I just posted this in the Pienaar thread to the response that Yakubu is overweight, it is obviously more suited here so I have copied the below Well in that case, this is where Martin O'Neills famed "man management" woul come in wouldn't it. yakubu has the ability, there is no doubt at all. He had a bad injury that kept him out of the 2009 season and due to that , was mainly used as sub last season. MON is supposedly the best in bringing these type of players to the fore. It seems bloody obvious to me. Pick up a player with all the ability, but is cheap due to "issue" Get them to perform to their best. As I said, seems obvious choice to me. And if we could also get Keane for a combined fee of around 15m. Sell Heskey to Stoke for 3 , Carew to who-ever for 2 (remember last year of contract) A strike force of Gabby, Yakubu, Keane and Delf for net spend , 10m , all different types of players that would give us options. Bloody easy this management lark, no wonder shoe salesmen and interpretors are the best managers ever !
  23. Just said in the Pienaar thread but more apt here. We need a striker. We aren't made of money. Yakubu 27 yrs old Available at around 9m 277 appearances (263 in either Premier League or Cups) 108 goals ratio - 1 in 2 1/2 That is the same ratio as Drogba. If Drogba was 27 - how much would he cost No brainer. If he ends up at West ham for anything less than 10m, and we don't sign Messi instead - I will be livid. Seems bloody obvious to me, however, so did Darren Bent !
  24. I thought of Lehmann after I posted. However, who is Helmer ?? Who-ever he is, you can't count him !
  25. To be fair, name any germans who have played here. I can think of The Hammer, Klinssman and Ballack. 3 in 20 odd years Even if I have missed some out, I doubt there are 8 - it is very very rare a german plays over here. (and I am not counting Breikrutz and Beinlich !!!)
