  1. How dare you! CAREW! CAREW! CAREW IS ON FIRE! While you sing it try giving the whole right hand up in the air, put yours hands up for Detroit style. Thats OK to say but my wife sat 30 seats into the Doug Ellis from the Holte against Sheff Utd (1st time she has been in about 4 yrs) and after the game she said to me "what was all that about balloons" - when we discussed - it was the carew chant - it sounds absolutely crap - unless you know,, you haven't gotta aclue whats being said. A chant is something that every club associates with you, like every knew the chant for Viera, Steve gerrard gerrard etc, Dwight yorke, Ozzy Bozzie etc.. - for 5 months Villa fans have sung this "on fire" and it still hasn't caught on - sums it up !!
  2. Gen Cheers for the update on the Holte - believe us, we know what state it was in. In the late 70's Mr Ellis applied to have the pub knocked down so he could do what he wanted on the land (which was probably build a statue of himself !). For the only time in 36 years I have to commend the council who would not allow him due to its listed status - over this time he applied again and again but they kept him at bay. His wish was to see it fall into such disrepair that the council would have had to knock it down due to health and safety - luckily you all came in in he nick of time. At the end of the day - as long as it is open by August 11th who cares !!. On the subject though - I, my mates and probably between 35-42000 Villa fans (depending on who we play 1st game) are gonna want to drink in it first game and you will probably have to queue to Spaghetti Junction to get a drink - have the club thought about how they are gonna manage it all ??. I am sure within a season it will sort itself out but the 1st game will be chaos in there !!!
  3. Best one so far by a mile - thats gotta get started !!!!
  4. Csn someone PLEEEAAASEEE !!! Get the carew chant going for Vindaloo - the "on fire" is truly bloody awful and i bet if you sit anywhere past 30 yrds away from the holte you wouldn't be able to hear it !!! And how about Oh Randy - Oh randy - you're the greatest the holte end say !
  5. Gen, Although it isn't exactly hard still thought I'd echo the above. I received my pack as well, and thought the same as everyone else "well HOW do I renew". Chucked it in the bin and thought "You can do it on the net" so I logged on, got onto the official site season ticket page, which had a link "RENEW HERE" Tried for 4 hours to click the log without success !!!, just comes up internet page not available" Now, as I said, it isn't hard - I'll do it by phone tomorrow - but something that should be raised with you I think ! And just for the record (and speaking honestly without trying to patronise) Any person who abuses you on PM MUST be a bluenose just trying to stir trouble !!. Although sometimes we may not agree (ala West ham - I agree with everything everyone else says) there is not a Villa fan on this planet who would abuse this regime !!! Cheers - have a good summer - if you want me, I'll be in Majorca !!!
  6. So can Aaron Hughes - doesn't mean he's good enough. Gotta disagree on this. jagielka could do a job at right back - yes. Luke Young could do a job at right back - yes - my nan could do a job at right back - yes Aaron hughes - errr - no !!!! Yet another bloody goal down to him today - thank christ thats the last we will see of him !!. Bent or Defoe , Barton or another , Young or another , Boruc prob (keep sorenson get rid of taylor) and a few odds and sods and we will be around where we wanna be next season. (and as west ham above - West Ham can attract players with upwards of 60000 reasons per week - and lets face it - that's all that matters to 95% of footballers !)
  7. Why don't people like Defoe - scored 17 goals this year from not many more starts, and he did it last year, and the one beofer - and come for that - the one before that !!!. Personally I want Bent - but tell you what, I wouldn't be exactly gutted if we bought Defoe, quick, skillfull, definately an eye for goal and still young. Really don't know what people are expecting on here - maybe we will buy eto , ronaldo, ronaldinho and cech - but even if we did - people would STILL moan !!!!
  8. You are only as good as the players who cannot get in the team. We need to build a squad where people like Gareth barry - let alone Gabby and Young, are not guarenteed a 1st team place. Look at Spurs (who is probably the team we will be looking to challenge next year) Berbatov, Keane, Defoe, all international strikers and all I reckon Villa fans would want at our club - all challenging for 2 positions - 1 HAS to settle for the bench. Thats where we need to be. I'd go tooth and nail for Bent - start with Bent and Carew, but what a mouth watering prospect it is to have the likes of Gabby, Moore and Maloney on the bench !!
  9. Hi Gen Thanks for the response about the training ground viewing. I have moved from Bham now so won't be able to get there as often now but if I'm ever in Brum in the week I will still come down. Another question (one you certainly won't be able to answer now but it's worth a thought). Just been listening to Radio 5 on my way home and the headline came on "Prince William, who is the (something or other) of the FA (president or something) will be the honourary guest at the FA Cup Final etc..etc.. - the next line was "William - who is actually an Aston Villa fan will hand the trophy to the winners. Have either yourself or Randy tried to tap into this... Has he been invited to Villa Park. Just think of the koudos we would get in your native America and Asia to have the 2nd heir to the throne seen at our games. He is currently moving to an estate in Herefordshire (thats a country one - not a council !!) so he won't even be that far away !!. Also, if you didn't know - Tom Hanks is a Villa fan - in case you meet him at some function in the US !!!!
  10. According to sky kepa Blanco has said Villa wanna sign him - I'd be bloody gobsmacked if we do - agent talk me thinks !!!. But, giving the news that Roeders gone a cheeky bid for Owen is worth a punt, and I'd take Given as well !!
  11. Cant sign anyonme who doesn't fit into the song.. "theres only one ...." so e's out. and yes it was a joke - a very funny one I thought !!!
  12. From the above I think we should buy the guy Carton Jaune - he's scored 5 goals !!!
  13. anyway, McShane was again at RB today (contrary to a belief of a few here) he's far more accumplished as a RB then CB. He got took off when the game was safe. There's some remarkable 'name' players being banded around here. Arteta would be a very nice signing and personally for where we want to be going, we should be buying players from teams like everton and spurs. Why buy from the middle tier when we have the finances to go higher. Quick 'realistic' suggestions from me: Blackburn: McCarthy, MGP and Bentley. Bolton: Nolan. Charlton: Young and D.Bent. Everton: Fernandez and Arteta. Fulham: Rosenior. Liverpool: Bellamy. Man City: Distin and Barton. Man Utd: Smith. Newcastle: Milner Portsmouth: Taylor. Reading: Sidwell and Doyle. Spurs: Huddlestone. Wigan: Baines and Scharner. Why buy from the middle tier you said! Terrible list of players except Bent, Distin, maybe Barton, Sidwell and Baines who all are gettable. The rest are rubbish in comparison to where we want to go or totally ungettable!!! Scharner and Fernandez??? C'mon, Sharner - Wigan for 2 seasons not really set the world on fire and Fernandez - One good goal against ManUre and everyone's favourite player  Arteta, yes please but ungettable! Stick up for the guy here - If you are telling me you douldn't want Alan Smith at Villa then you surely don't watch much football !!. And I tell you what, If we had got McCarthy we would be playing Champs league football THIS YEAR !!!. Makes you wonder where we would have got if we had of bought him when we were top of the league - 15 goals in his first season isn't what I call rubbish !!!!. I'd go for (and I only follow English football so can't comment on other leagues) Barton, D.Bent, L. Young, A Smith, and yes McShane (cover for Young). along with the certainty that is Bellamy. That lot alone will cost nigh on 30m and I can't see us spending more than that. We can then challenge for top 6 and go from there, any person who thinks we are gonna challenge Liverpool and Arsenal for top 4 next year are dreaming !!
  14. Hi Gen. Well - what an immense weekend. Gonna keep this as brief as I can !!! 82 heroes IMMENSE !! - I saw many a damp eye on the Holte yesterday !!!. Truly wonderful and will be remembered by all forever , my 8 yr old daughter now knows that we ARE as big as Chelsea and co. Game - truly bloody fantastic - in your words today "we crushed em like a bug" (sound better in your accent than Brummie !!!). For the first time in 14 yrs we go into the last game looking forward to next season !!!!. Today - ewll I will be honest, never been to a gym in my life so wouldn't know what a good one and bad one is - however, looks impressive to me and the two best things about today was 1. That the fans were actually invited in the 1st place !!! 2. That you were there to personally greet every single one - which considering yiou usually mix with US presidents and such is truly inspirational - thank you !!! Really don't want to moan on what was a wonderful weekend but can I raise two quick points. 1. Stewards !!, already a few comments about the Holte yesterday, can I point out I was disgusted with the way the Sheff Utd fans were treated when conga-ing - it was a party atmosphere, the best at Villa for a while and the stewards went into them like they were rioters !!. 2. The Holte sounded awesome with the 82ers yesterday, loudest I have heard us since SMA. However, my wife was sitting by the Sheff U fans and she said the Holte couldn't be heard. My father has sat in the Trinity this season and said the same - therefore there must be something wrong with acoustics at Villa, as my wife said the Sheff U fans sang all game- but we couldn't hear them either. Can this be rectified somehow, some ???? . I am no expert but concert venues have special insulation to bounce the sound back - wouldn't be that expensive to put it in the roofs I reckon !! Oooh - forgot one thing - when the pitches are ready (12months) will there be a viewing gallery for us. At the old ground you could turn up and watch (admittedly from what seemed about 12 miles away !) - will we be able to still do it ?? Lastly - THANX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, the new motto says everything we need to say !!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Gen. As I have the old crest tatood on my left arm - I was wondering if you could knock off the £40 i paid to get it done from my season ticket !!!! Hope you enjoy saturday, the feeling for this game is remarkable. I have spoken to loads of fans and there hasn't been such excitement about one game since the cup final - should be a party atmosphere. also, on the point without giving details away. I am friends with a wife of a former euro. cup winning player. The player in question broke ties with the Villa around 10 yrs ago for the way he was treated by the previous regime. When this was all announced he didn't want anything to do with it, eventually having received many letters , phonecalls from your board he is attending , along with his family. Thanks - the feeling of the individual before you came sums it up - the way he was treated by the previous regime made him feel "why would anyone want to see me ??" - this board has give the fans the opportunity to show what these players mean to us.
  16. The same reason as nobody looked at Darren Bent apart from Charlton. I am not saying we should sign all players from lower leagues, but just coz they don't play for AC Milan - doesn't mean they are not a bad player !!. McShane is a very good, solid right back - the type of player we need. Not many get past him, does't offer a lot going forward but if you have Gabby, Ashley, Barry,Petrov, Luke and prob. one or two others in front of you - you shouldn't have to !! Can't particularly remember many clubs apart from us looking at a youngster from Brighton called Gareth Barry - didn't mean he was crap !!!
  17. General Just a quick message for you to hear about the magnificent attitude of the Ticket sales staff, and would like you to pass on my regards to all involved. To cut a very long story short. I wanted to take my wife and child to the Sheff Utd game (taking advantage of the £5 for season ticket holders offer). Unfort. my wifes motehr passed away two weeks ago and you could prob. imagine, the football was the last thing on my mind. On Wed at aroudn 5pm I rang to book the tickets only to be told the offer had finished. I sent the ticket office a brief email, regardiing what had happened and asked for their help. On Friday morning my wife received a phonecall from the office, not only offering to sort us out, but she said the way the lady spoke to her was so caring and understanding that it brought her to tears. This is a credit to the football club, thank everybody involved and you should be proud of your staff !!! Cheers Paul
  18. Many (and mostly me) have asked the general about the chance of getting football back to the traditional 3pm Saturday. The gist is, what Sky want they get - but it would be interesting to see what the actual feelings are of people. Personally, I believe Skys reasons are flawed - if the arguament is "we play televised games at 4pm Sunday as to stop the televised games interfering with the attendances of other games. Then a) Why are all the last games being played at 4pm Sunday, with some televised Why do they now have games that finish at 2.50pm on a Saturday - you'd have to be bloosy quick to leave your house and get to Villa for kick off unless you lived on Trinity Road !! c) same thing for the 5.15 game As reason a. I can't see the problem with having all kick offs 3pm saturday and just televising two - they are doing it on 13th May so whats the difference !!!
  19. Gen (and Mods) This question is along the same lines of one that has been asked 1000 times before but with a slightly different edge so I would plead not for it to be deleted as I think it is quite valid and would like to hear the gens thoughts on if the Villa could influence the other clubs. here goes - 3pm kick offs again !! You know the story, we all would prefer 3pm Saturday kick offs but sky dictate 4pm on Sunday due to it not effecting other attendances of the remaining games etc.. etc... However, the last game of the season , in our case Bolton away, kicks off at 4pm on Sunday along with EVERY other game, and on that day some will be televised at the same time. If this is the case - why can't the Premier League chairman negotiate that all games will be 3pm, Saturday and the televised games will be 3pm , Saturday !!! there is no need for games to be kicked off at different times to suit TV companies when this clearly shows everyone can have the way they want !!! I know people say "there is nothing the Villa can do" but our chairman (or representative) attends premier league meetings and this surely must be raised every time.
  20. My wife said to me tonight "I look fatr, my bums big, I've got spots and I am ugly, I need you to give me a compliment" "Ok I said, your eyesight is perfect !!!" Daaa daaaaaaaaa !!!!
  21. Gen I second everything everyone said, just coz we ask questions, don't think we are not grateful, it is mind boggling what has happened in less than 8 months, what will be achieved in 8 yrs !!. I am gonna ask a cheeky question, one which you no doubt won't be able to answer, but if you don't ask.... A reply earlier said "one of the best british managers". Obviously MON came a few weeks before Randy and our geriatric egomaniac took great delight unveiling him stating (in his own modest way ????) "look what I've done for the fans" Come on....... tell us........what was the real story ?? - was MON coming due to the geriatric ???
  22. Gen. Why are you thanking us !!! , the fact you even looked on unofficial sites in the first place was a miracle, now, the fact you take time out of a schedule I couldn't even dream about (talking to presidents and stuff) to speak to me is absolutely gobsmacking !!! Anyway - enough of the brown nosing !!! I am sure this must have been covered somewhere but I can't find it. When the Holte was rebuilt in the mid-90's the geriatric told us "you will have a stand you will be proud of" - now, the pitch view I can't fault, the outside I can fault but you are putting those faults right , the concourse level is dowright depressing !!! Now forgive me, I sit in L5, which if looking from the pitch is to the right of the goal - i've never ventured down the other end, but in my half there is one male and one female toilet block, one pie stand, one bookies and one programme seller. The walls are not painted and are just grey concrete and the floor, well I don't know what it is but it sure isn't pretty. Will this be given a lick of paint and a spruce up? I know (and it's a sore point with me) we won't have anymore semis at Villa but I am sure Watford fans must have thought "so whats the big deal about this Holte End " Heres to the next 200 !! Paul
  23. Just unearthed this gem....... Well we did all see it in Crouch !!!! Bloody shame ODreary didn't !!!
  24. hmmmmm sounds very familiar with someone who has just left Birmingham B6, but I bet I'll get slated for saying that !!!!
  25. Talking of Man City The lack of transfer speculation on Joey Barton seems very odd. He is an outstanding player, potentially as good as gerrard and the fact that not a single paper / TV station is speculating on him seems very weird. Wonder if something has already been sorted ???
