Hope all the boomers on Twitter suggesting he's better than Watkins because he's a "true striker" or whatever have been humbled. He's very raw, and can't really shoulder much of a burden yet, especially as a lone striker. His pressing also needs serious work. Had Diaby doing 2 jobs.

Whilst I generally agree with you, it's not like Watkins really did anything in the game either. Forwards were living off scraps tonight.

  2. Poor game by his standard but I would add as a caveat that when you have 2 of the slowest midfielders playing alongside you in Tielemans and Dendonker then I imagine it's easy to get overwhelmed in the middle.

  3. He's got all the attributes that you'd want in a striker. He is fast, strong, tall, athletic and with a powerful strike. You can tell at times that he is still young and raw but he will naturally develop and with the help of Emery I'm pretty sure the tactical side of things will be addressed in the long term.

    What a prospect.

  4. I'm so glad that I won't have to have another foreign holiday with my kids being aged 2 again. Found that with my son (who is now 6) and now my daughter that it's the worst age for a holiday.

Spent so much time worrying if she was going to kick off at meal times, hauling around her stroller over the worst roads known to man and trying to stop her from getting her hands into everything.

  5. Really think there are times when playing a high line is suicidal and Liverpool and Newcastle away are 2 of those times, especially when we are relying on Torres and Digne instead of Mings and Moreno. Love Emery but it wasn't that difficult to see that the high line would be exploited again today.

  6. Think he will be very good against sides we dominate and have to worry more about breaking down rather than being on the backfoot for a majority of the game. He seems a liability in games like this though. Just a reminder how much we miss Mings' recovery pace, strength and aerial ability.

So is that it then? Lenglet in, 2 more out?

No backup GK or RB? 😬

I'm not sure why anyone thought we were signing a RB or backup GB. It's been pretty clear for a while that Emery is happy with our options in both areas. If we are to make another signing after Lenglet then I'd predict it will be an attacker

  8. I kept meaning to come here to say I'm really enjoy The Athletic coverage now and I say that as someone who didn't mind Gregg Evans as much as some. I actually like that Tanswell isn't a Villa fan as it gives an outside perspective and his articles have been well researched and more analytical so far. It's also nice that he genuinely seems to be happy when Villa do well, which is definiteoy something you couldn't say for Evans.

For me right now priority is

    1. A right back

    2. A striker

    3. Back up goalkeeper.

The first two must be of very high quality for us to compete on all fronts, I can accept not getting a striker if we get 1 and 3

I think you are going to be very disappointed

  10. A lot of their fans seem to think they've spent £100m on transfers and they are now weaker than they were in the championship. Loads of people seemed to be predicting them to be comfortably mid table before the season started but I can't see anything but a relegation scrap for them personally.

  11. You can tell he hasn't had much time training with the team and Emery. Had to be pointed where to stand for one corner and occasionally occupied the same space as others but he looked a real threat and very keen to impress. Look forward to seeing him when he's had a bit more time to bed in.

We’re staying near Kassiopi, went there today for lunch, very nice.

Bloody mosquitoes though are horrendous, we’ve all been eaten alive.

We are in Corfu too, haven't had many bites until I got one on my hand last night which has swollen right up. That will teach me to get complacent.
