  1. Was at the game Saturday and one thing is really apparent - we are a quiet team! If we are to make just one signing this window (God hope there's more by the way) but we need a talker/voice in the middle of the park. The type of player that talks to players and the ref at times, can put his fist up to some to get them going and put an arm round others that need encouragement.  You can see that the current players have slowly regressed over six months.  Gana is mute I'm sure!  Now, I really don't know who but we need someone to lead us for rest of season and the next (ie a Joey Barton, a Kevin Nolan type player). It may also make the opposition think that we are not pushovers as I'm sure most teams do at present.

  2. I would like to see this team but doubt we will:

                             Bunn

    Richards     Okore    Lescott   Cissokho

                   Westwood    Gana

     Gil                 Veretout          Ayew

                             Kozak

Need to keep an eye on the quick break because Zaha is a real threat with his pace.  Hopefully, Cabaye missing will help but still think we will lose (0-1).  Let's at least hope for some passion and fight even if we cannot match them on ability!

  3. It may not be the best place to post this here but does anyone honestly know if people from the club read the topics on this site? Just curious. If I was a player, I for one would be intrigued to see what fans were saying about me. Moreover, someone from the club should print some of these comments and show them to the squad maybe then it would hit home?

Delusional. If Young ever left United it would be to another top 7 side like Liverpool, Everton, Spurs etc

Don't think it's delusional at all but like I said just my opinion.  Ashley may have liked Sherwood's enthusiasm?  Would he have come back to a chairman and fan base who quite frankly adored him? Offer him the right salary? Remember we had 40-50m to spend and bought poorly in the main.  Someone of his type is what we need anyway, as it's been crying out for it this season.

    Off to Celta apparently.

A Young? You mean Ashley Young? Why would that have been that possible?

Yes, Ashley Young - because I think we could have got him in the summer. Just my opinion of course, maybe nostalgia on my part a bit as well! Would just like us to be a real threat up top again and currently we just aren't!! Not sure where we go from here to be that real counter attacking treat again.

I think our problem is a lack of two pacey wingers and much greater quality and competition up front, I think we can live with most of the rest. We used to be a team that played on the counter attack very well, but we are slow pedestrian in attack knowadays.

Totally agree with this, with someone like A Young out wide, we were always a treat but not at present. Gestede just isn't good enough to lead a line either.  Didn't realise until just now that Afobe is possibly joining Bournemouth, now there's a player who could have been good for us. Sad when newly promoted teams are already building a better team than ours!! Sad times now and ahead.

If it wasn't for the penalty we would've won today. Couldn't really see why it was given so will have to watch MOTD later to see if it was just. As bad as we are, Wycombe didn't look like scoring. I have to say there were a couple of occasions early in the first half that I think we would've conceded from if Guzan had been playing. Thought Bunn had a decent enough game.

The defence. I liked seeing Richards at RB, first half he got forward well and was hampered in the second by whatever niggly injury he had. Clark was solid enough and Okore the same, making up for any mistakes he had made by letting the ball bounce. Have to say for once that Richardson was alright today. Usual share of suicidal errors but he made one crucial challenge and last twenty minutes got forward well to supplement the attack.

Gil had a good game despite losing the ball a bit too often for my liking; will let him off because at times he has nobody offering him worthwhile support, was strange that he was taken off but I assume it was to conserve his fitness for the next two league games.

Thought Westwood could and should have run the game today. A few nice touches but disappointing. I was disappointed at the negativity against Bacuna in the crowd, as far as I can see he always works his balls off for the team and actually looks like he cares.

Gana made some decent interceptions and runs but needs to work on his end product (whether that is a killer pass or a decent shot).

Gestede was disappointing today. He was beasted by the bloke they had man marking him. However I will say that he wasn't helped by Sinclair up with him who was terrible today IMO. Embarrassingly enough I put £1 on a Sinclair hat trick yesterday!

Subs: Ayew and Veretout improved is massively and both should've started in my opinion. I love that Ayew looks like he is hurting about how shit we are as the fans are. I think Kozak was coming on for Gestede (he started changing out of his training gear) but Richards must have called over to say he couldn't continue, hence Lyden coming on.

I was ashamed of the fans banging on the back of the dugout and abusing the players as they went off. I understand people are pissed off but gain some **** perspective. Does shouting at a group of men whose confidence is clearly shot to shit make you feel better about our situation?

The replay will be interesting, i think at Villa park we will have too much for them because we were the better team today.

One final point, I wasn't impressed at the block I was in being made to sit down so that the journalists in the press box behind could have a better view. Did they pay to get in?

Good post and pretty much how I saw it today as well just couldn't be bothered to write it.

Maybe it's just me on here, they deserved the abuse. Ok granted some individuals warrant more abuse than others and some none at all, but life's tough sometimes and you have to take crap for the whole (I do at work for others daily) As a fanbase we've been more than patient, I would bet good money no other establish Premier league teams fans would have put up with the last 5 years we've had.

We all know that the majority of the blame lies with Lerner and his lackies but the players have stopped trying, we've cheered and backed them for years now even though they've served up gash. Frankly when you're paid as much as they're paid and the club is in the situation it's in to not even run 10 yards you deserve to be told as much.

just as embarrassing as the blokes rant and let's face it he obviously loves the club he's hurting badly is the meek acceptance of no effort from some of the fanbase, and the shots at other fans for criticism of the side. We should clap the dross we're being served like good little consumers then obviously it seems. Pathetic.

Football at its core is tribal, it stirs emotions and sometimes it's provokes irrational thought and action, I feel that it's no small thing when I say I love this club I'd do most anything for it and I freely admit sometimes I'm irrational about it. To me if you support the club you can empathise with someone losing it at the state far more than someone who thinks we should just accept it.

The likes of Bacuna may not be at fault for our current predicament but as he's one of 11 that get repeated chances to turn it around if he and others like him don't give it everything then I'll get on there back because my patience has snapped, they're more than compensated for it.

Some abuse and stick maybe, vile poisonous language throughout - not for me. Watching today and I truly believe this, that some players are just not good enough and no player is going to say 'hey I'm out my depth here so take me out of it'! Short comings and failings happen in any walk of life and some of these players are in my opinion out of their depth. We do have a poor squad.   They signed for a great club on good money so who can blame them for that. Do they care - I honestly don't know but let's not put every player in the 'don't care' box. I think some of them do and I think some them don't.  We just need to start again with this team, either now and/or in the summer, because make no mistake this squad would not get out of the Championship! Just hope Garde or whoever starts next season as manager knows this.

Some of our fans really don't help, the noise we generated in the first half was pretty good but there were some poisonous idiots in there who started having a go at me during the Lerner Out chants. In the 2nd half I moved to the front of the stand to the far left down on the walkway, and Bacuna got the ball on the right-wing and the abuse he got whilst he was on the ball from some fans was horrendous.... And Veretout taking a corner, just as he's about to strike the ball some kids shouted the W word at him to put him off. Really? So that's the best way of getting players to perform is to shout vile abuse at them while they're playing? Some people really need to get behind the team because it does make a difference. The photographer in front of me and I shared this look of bewilderment at each other with the Veretout corner kick incident.

Yes, it was an awful performance, the 2nd half was one of the worst displays I've seen from us, but f'ing and blinding at the players whilst they're trying to attack won't help anyone. Yes, we all have the freedom to express ourselves, but beinconstructive is also a good idea.

I wasn't going to comment regarding today but then I read the above from     DeadlyDirk. I went today because I have relatives in the area and yes I think the display was somewhat embarrassing but I'm more embarrassed by some of our fans.   The abuse today at times is really poisonous - yes I am all for showing passion and fight and these players are not Demi-Gods that we have no right to question but  honestly we're better than looking like scum. I stayed behind to watch the players go and I haven't seen the Twitter footage but again - just embarrassing! Have to say it was mainly 3 guys I think at the front of the coach but there were children wanting a glimpse of the players and the language and hatred towards the players was  disgusting!  It just cannot help the cause!!   Finally, the only thing I didn't like (if true) is one fan close to me said that Bacuna was laughing as he got on the coach. If this was the case it certainly wouldn't have helped the situation.  Not a great day and cannot see where improvement will come from unless we dip into the market for some fresh faces! Love the reading of posts, discussion and at times difference of opinions on here but please keep the faith everyone and let's at least as fans stick together!!

I am struggling to get my head around the supporters saying that they think Garde should be in charge next season. I am not saying he shouldn't by the way, I'll decide on that further down the line, I am just wondering what he has done since he has been here, and what he did in his limited management career prior to joining us, to warrant being guaranteed to be our manager in 8 months time.

Agree, I also am just not sure. At 1-1 today I didn't see Garde or his coaching team on the touch line pushing us for a winner but what I did see was Fat Sam pushing his team! Not saying Garde is a bad manager just think he maybe the wrong manager at the wrong time.

Crucial window . Deals need to be spot on or it will take another two or three years to correct the mistakes made this window

Totally agree here! If Gestede wants to stay and help get us out of the Championship how about Bamford as a loan to play with him? Surely enough goals in the pair of them? We also need a confident goalkeeper and a quality holding midfielder.

it is not doable for a team that has one win all season. That is top 6 form minimum and if you think this club is capable of acheiving that then you are seriously deluded.

Totally agree here!  I am ever the optimist but we are fighting to get draws let alone wins. Sunderland (excluding Defoe) are appalling and even at 1-1 we never really looked like causing them further problems. From Monday, we need a plan and that plan should be a transfer philosophy that will enable us to get out of the Chamionship.

  13. Personally, I would like to see Gil or Traore in to replace Sanchez.  If we take any risk with Sanchez the way he walked off we will lose him for 2 months or worse!  If we show some belief and score first we could win this one. 2-1 Villa.

I find 3, 9 and 10 particularly incompatible with the bold.

Like I said prior to list, some songs mean something and meeting someone and later marrying them makes a difference, than if I was single still.

If I was being considerate of the whole household I would have to have a 'Mr Tumble' song in there as well! :-)

  17. I know what team I would like to see but think he will stick with the same Newcastle starting line up!   Personally, I would like Gil and/or Traore in but it won't happen!! Moreover, if he plays Gestede in this one it will play straight into Collins' hands, as he can cope with a lazy big man.  Would love a scrappy 1-0 but think it could be a draw again.  Really don't like the line up below for a home game though:

    ---------------------Guzan

    Hutton-----Okore-----Lescott--------Bacuna

    ----------Sanchez-----Westwood----------

    -----------Veretout------Gana----------

    ---------Ayew--------------Sinclair----------

  19. Think we need a platform to build on, so although we need to win games fast it is a must not lose game for me now! We therefore need to be solid at the back and have pace up top. Richards back hopefully and perhaps Westwood can feed the front 3 better than Sanchez?

    ----------Guzan--------------
    Okore-Richards-Lescott-Clark
    ----------Westwood-----------
    ----Gana---------Veretout----
    Traore----Ayew----Sinclair

Would have Grealish and Gil coming off the bench to keep the ball better in the second half. Score draw for me but would love to sneak a 2-1.

  20. Think we need pace up top and get the ball quickly to the front three! Would go for this as we need Bacuna's pace against Walcott:

    ----------Guzan--------------
    Hutton-Okore-Richards-Bacuna
    ----------Sanchez-----------
    ----Gana---------Veretout----
    Traore----Ayew----Agbonlahor

Predicted draw against Saints last week and honestly think the best we can hope for is same again (draw).

    Reported missing: one midfield.

532? Richardson has moved from left back to under Bacuna when reposted on here for some reason? Not sure why? Think that team can give them a game and can be solid enough.  Still think we can get a draw.

I think we need to STOP trying something new at the back.

Our defenders aren't very good. The only way they're going to get better is through consistency. We need to decide on a back 4 and stick with it.

Chopping and changing personell and formations every week is incredibly hard for most defences, let alone our one.

Have to disagree with this to a point, we can't keep a clean sheet on a regular basis and look like conceding 2/3 goals a game. That is why I like the idea of five at the back! All about opinions of course but would like to see how it works now Okore is fit.

  23. 9 minutes ago, Demitri_C said:

I like the look of that team but i think its too attacking for saints away.

Think it could work as five at the back including Sanchez without the ball, can quickly change to three at the back when we have it. In addition, wing backs could suit our front two, especially Gestede? Who knows but think we need to try something different at the back, without Hutton and Clark! For me, think it could be a draw!!

  24.                                                        Guzan

         Bacuna             Okore             Richards           Lescott              Richardson

                                      Sanchez                      Gana

                                                            Gill

                                         Gestede               Ayew

Think we need to try something new at the back? Couldn't decide between Adama or Gestede, but went for the big man as away from home and may need to hold the ball up top better? Think we could be more solid with that kind of line up, then have Adama and Agbonlahor coming off the bench in the second half to scare them with pace?
