Don’t really understand the affinity thing. It only really exists in the fanbase as far as I can tell. The main mistake that MON made was to misjudge the fans and play a weakened team in europe. That’s really what did him in, and all that talk of ego, personality etc etc wasn’t much of a problem when we were beating Arsenal and we were fighting up in the champions league places. As someone above said, the only thing that matters is results. End of.

You've cracked the code, the football club is actually just a front for the rent boy business.
"Asston Villa" " Booty Moor Heath".
Now I know how we met FFP.
We need a photo of Deano in a purple chinchilla jacket with a feather in his hat.

Some people talk like he is the second coming of Ronaldo. Truth is, he had a very mixed season. Players like sessengnon and Costa tore up the championship and struggled in the Premier league, so let's not try and make out he is a world beater.
Yeah but he’s less of a cockwomble than Ronaldo, and he has silky smooth hair. Does that mean nothing to you people?

Thought I’d post this in here rather than divert the Suso thread ... So we’ve spent close to Or just above £100 mill thus far with 3 players still required at least to sign. I want Leao/ Oudin to cover wing & st (if I say it enough in my mind Leao stands more chance of happening ) Phillips and a Gk oh plus Bayliss ... we will need to shift a few on, Kalinic, Hogan & Lansbury spring to mind due to what they offer vs wages and poss Tish & Thor.... but I’d keep both of them in the event of an extreme injury crisis ... Easy now back to real world .... where’s my signings @ ... getting withdrawal symptoms
Forgot about Tish. We need to sell his ass.
Not like that. Stop sniggering.

I think in some games we might not be able to afford the luxury of having Grealish as one of the midfield three, we might have to play him in the stead of one of the wingers, and use a more tradional midfielder in his place in the middle. That's where signing both Luiz and Phillips (or an alternative) would come in. That and the fact that it would just be handy to have an extra player who can play DM should Luiz get injured.
This. The option to be a bit more defensive against the top teams would be useful. I think with our players, we could have a pretty effective Plan B counter attack when we’re under the kosh

So you want none ball playing central midfielders. How does that help Jack and SJM? Surely players who are comfortable on the ball are always an asset to their team mates?
Why does being a defensive midfielder/holding midfielder mean you can’t pass a ball? The way I read the comment was that we won’t play a DM because our central midfielders can handle defensive duties. Well if you plan to have Grealish and Mcginn in our midfield, and they’re doing defensive duties, then they are going to be held back. You need a DM, holding midfielder, anchor or something to get the best out of our already offensive minded midfielders.

I think we’ve been dependent on a DM in the recent past because our central defence was poor and needed a lot of protection. We have a much stronger defence now and so as you say, we need good ball playing central midfielders who will defend when we’re defending as one of their overall duties.
Disagree. That would stifle the effectiveness of both Grealish and Mcginn

I thought that Little's team played better football in terms of organisation than Ron's, the passing and movement was generally better. Ron's team had more flair and was more capable of the spectacular.
Both sides had bags of character though. It was no hardship following Villa in those days.

As long as he is ours that's all that matters, oh and that he is as good as being touted.
Big fat Ron, that was the last ball playing team we had, Brian littles team was good but it wasn't bfr good ball playing wise.
Fingers crossed tomoz its confirmed
Brian Little’s team was great on the ball. Used to love watching them. I remember the Tommy Johnson goal away at Middlesborough in 95-96.
Alan Wright’s goal in that game wasn’t too shabby either

Where are all those people that were panicking about the lack of signings two weeks ago?!
I’m here. Wasn't panicking but concerned.
You have to admit that the business we’ve done since then has been pretty unprescedented.
Nice of you to rub it in btw.

Have to say I was worried at the sheer amount of work we had to do in the market a few weeks ago. Hats off, can anyone remember a more coherent and strategic acquisition policy than we’ve seen this year?
I can’t. It’s all terribly exciting. We may not yet be world beaters, but it looks like there is a real plan in place and that we’ve done due diligence.

So i’ve been away for a few days. I gather that nothing has happened.

Just want to give this a boost as I'm really looking forward to this lad playing for the Villa.
We've been raving about the Wesley and potential Mings signing etc but this is/was our first summer signing really and I think we may have unearthed a little gem here.
He does go to ground quite a lot in that video but, at least he tackles! He gets stuck in, looks quite pacy, has some good footwork and can certainly play some great long-range passes - with both feet!
Bloody hell is he a full back? he's nearly on the opposition's goal line most of the time. Hopefully he will fit in with the way Deano sets up.

Not keen myself. Massive step down from last year's effort imo. Hopefully the 2nd and 3rd kits will be better.
The blue. It's way too light.

He is not Alan though, and he will never be Alan.
Sure we can pretend, we can try to kid ourselves that we have moved on, but for how long can we keep that up, living a lie, hiding behind a fake smile. It is not fair. It is not fair on us and it's not fair on Guilbert.
You can't build a relationship on a lie.I will never get over Alan. Never.
"...go on Alan!!!.....unlucky Alan."

People should also remember that we are amongst the few who have actually done business so far. Wait til the big boys get started. I doubt Mings transfer will be within the top 5 even for defenders this year. Maguire for £85 Million.
Maguire. Eighty. Five. Freaking. Million.

I get where you’re coming from, but how many teams have fan bases that say ‘defensive football, wasting time, kicking the opponents in the nuts when the refs not looking, long speculative balls over the top to a clod-hopping journeyman, thats what we’re about. That’s the **** FC way’.
Except Wimbledon, obviously.
All fans think that there is a historical imperative at their club to play the best football ‘the world has ever seen’.
