  1. I was expecting a low block counter strategy from them, especially as folks on here who knew of their coach were saying that he is quite conservative. Instead they set up a mid-block transitioning into a highly effective high press.

It was a great performance from Olympiakos, I have to say. They may have been fresher, but they also knew how to hurt us.

In fairness I think we also looked very dangerous against their back line who appear to be their weak link.

I hope Unai has a few surprises for them in the return fixture. Time for a masterclass, boss.

  2. Goalkeeping is proactive these days. Especially with the way we play. It's not just about shot stopping and reaction saves, which I think Olsen is actually pretty good at.

Nor is it about how Emi is elite (although that is very welcome)

It's about being comfortable as a goalie in posession, and acting as another outfield player when we play our high line sweeper keeper system. You don't need to be as good as Emi to play well in this system, you just need to be good at the right things. Unfortunately Olsen is not.

I think he'd be OK at someone like Everton, but it's such a key part of how we play now that I don't think he'll ever be what we need, even as a No. 2.

  3. After reflecting and calming down a bit, I'm disappointed but not distraught. We've got something to fight for in the second leg at least.

I'm struggling to reconcile some of our good moments last night, with our overall play.

It was hard to believe that the team at the end of the first half.and start of the second was the same as the one that was so slow, ponderous and lacking ideas after their first goal.
