NEWCASTLE have bid £4million for FC Twente’s centre-back Douglas Texeira.

Toon have been tracking the Brazilian since last season and have offered him £40,000 a week.

The 6ft 3in defender, who has just one year left on his contract, has also been linked with Aston Villa.

But he is tempted to stay put and go for free in 12 months.

Texeira qualifies for a Dutch passport that allows him to play anywhere in the EU from September 1.

  2. I'm putting what Gazton said about a striker, some murmuring about us after a Man City player, and our love of Feyenoord together and getting John Guidetti.

Would make sense on loan or permanent for both clubs, and would be a good move in my opinion.

read this from Feb, seems Numan may have spotted El Ahmadi, Vlaar and Guidetti, i know it's only clubcall but wouldn't be suprised if Lambert is using Numan's reports

    club call

Villa are tracking Manchester City striker John Guidetti, on loan at Feyenoord, and his team-mate Karim El Ahmadi.

Villa scout Arthur Numan was at the De Kuip Stadium earlier this month to see in-form Feyenoord draw 1-1 with RKC Waalwijk, according to VI.nl.

Guidetti, 19, is making big waves in Holland, having scored 18 goals in 16 Eredivisie starts for the Rotterdam club.

The young Swedsh striker was snapped up by City from Brommapojkarna after just a handful of first-team appearances, but has only started once - in a Carling Cup defeat to West Brom at the start of last season.

He was loaned to Burnley until the start of 2011, where he scored once in five Championship starts, but his development has gone well this season, leading Feyenoord fans to petition City to let him stay another year.

Guidetti, however, scored a penalty and was later sent off in the match which Numan was reported to have seen him play in last week.

El Ahmadi, 27, is a Moroccan-descent Dutch midfielder who has also been playing well in Holland recently and could become a target as his contract with the Rotterdam club expires in 2013.

READING star Jem Karacan’s contract talks have stalled.

Newcastle, Aston Villa and West Ham, along with Turkish sides Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, are monitoring the situation.

It is believed the midfielder – a key player in the Royals’ promotion to the Premier League last season – has been offered a contract which is dwarfed by the wages of new signings Danny Guthrie and Pavel Pogrebnyak.

Born in London, Karacan has a Turkish Cypriot father and an English mother. He has played for Turkey at all levels up to under-21 and featured in 37 Championship games for Reading last season until breaking his ankle in April.

With just a season left on his deal, talks have been held about a new one.

But the two parties look a long way apart, especially after the bumper package awarded to fellow midfielder Guthrie, who joined from Newcastle on a free transfer this summer after his contract ran down.

Russian striker Pogrebnyak, who also signed on a free having been a big hit at Fulham, is understood to be on the highest wages ever paid by the Royals.

With Galatasaray and Fenerbahce showing interest, Karacan has hinted he could move to Turkey.

“I don’t know what the future holds. However, I want to play in Turkey one day,” he said in April.

But he also knows his best chance of being picked for the full Turkey national side rests with playing in the Premier League

Norwich boss Chris Hughton is in the bidding for England keeper Jack Butland which cracks open the door for Paul Lambert to nab John Ruddy, writes Alan Nixon.

New Canaries chief Hughton has gone back to his previous club Birmingham and made a firm inquiry for Butland, who has never played for Blues but is with Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2012 squad.

Hughton is willing to pay up to £4million for the keeper, who he sent out on loan to League Two side Cheltenham in his year at St Andrew's.

The Norwich boss wants to beat Premier League new boys Southampton to Butland.

Saints have made an improved offer, but are still short of meeting Birmingham’s valuation.

If Hughton lands Butland that may let his predecessor, Aston Villa boss Lambert, buy Ruddy.

Coventry City look set to lose defender Jordan Willis with a host of Premier League clubs battling for his signature, Sky Sports understands.

The 17-year-old made his first-team debut last term, making three appearances for the Sky Blues.

Willis is an England youth international and is already on the radar of a host of top-flight clubs.

Sky Sports understands that Manchester City, Liverpool,Newcastle, Everton and Aston Villa are all keen on the central defender.

Willis only signed his first professional contract with recently relegated Coventry last month

  6. daily star

Aston Villa and Reading in their bid to sign Russia international Pavel Pogrebnyak.

The London club failed to agree a deal for the striker before he left for Euro 2012.

Pogrebnyak, 28, scored six goals in 12 games last season after joining the Craven Cottage outfit in January on a short-term loan from Stuttgart.

He’s now a free agent and wants to continue in the Premier League, with Paul Lambert’s Villa and top-flight new boys Reading showing an interest.

Pogrebnyak said: “After three or four months, I feel that I have found my place in England and I want to play in this league.

“I feel great desire and strength inside me and my age will not work against me.

“We couldn’t agree anything with Fulham so far but I hope everything will be all right.

“If I don’t play for Fulham I hope to find another

    daily mail

Fulham face competition from Aston Villa and Reading in the race to sign Russia striker Pavel Pogrebnyak.

The 28-year-old impressed during a short-term spell at the end of last season, scoring six goals in 12 games after joining from Stuttgart.

But the Craven Cottage outfit were unable to agree a new deal before Euro 2012.

Pogrebnyak, who was unable to prevent Russia crashing out of the competition on Saturday, has made it clear he wants to remain in England.

But Fulham boss Martin Jol will have to go head to head with Paul Lambert's Villa and new boys Reading, according to the Daily Star on Sunday.

Pogrebnyak said: 'After three or four months, I feel that I have found my place in England and I want to play in this league.

  7. Kyle Naughton could be the new walker? Probably not, but we can hope. and as you say he's much better than Hutton :P

When they were younger at Sheff Utd it was Naughton who was rated more highly.

How interesting, Well i am definitely all for it - do you reckon they have the same sort of attributes, having both stemmed from Sheff UTD?

He is right, Naughton was much more highly rated.. Everton, ourselves and Spurs all wanted him.. In end Walker got about 3 games towards the end of one season (after coming back from Northampton on loan) and was more of a makeweight in the deal for Naughton to Spurs (if i remember correctly Everton joint bid for Naughton & Walker but failed, Spurs offered 2mil more)

Naughton swapped to left back when Walker made his debut for Sheff Utd at right back

They both have gone out on loan and also loan to smaller clubs:-

Walker to Q.P.R (for half season) and done really well, and then to us (half season) and again very well which broke him through at Spurs, because of all the rave reviews he got at QPR and Villa. He previously on loan at Northampton Town when at Sheff Utd

Naughton got whole season loan (Leicester, very good reviews for him) at same time as Walker to Q.P.R. and last season (Norwich - for whole season, again good reviews) He previously on loan at Gretna when at Sheff Utd

If Walker did not go to us on loan he probably still be where Naughton is now and still be trying to impress and make it with Spurs.

Naughton is very fast, tackles better than Walker, Likes to get forward and has a very long throw similar to Lichaj

    :D
